RIP Donald Sutherland (1935 - 2024). He brought so much quiet gravitas to this, and by all accounts he very much enjoyed doing so.

Her videos are as much a work of art as her songs are. I hope you enjoy some more. 👍🏻

While Donald Sutherland did not get the permission by the authorities to film in the UK for this video, he volonteered to do it for free.

Oh that's right, Actors and performers who are working abroad or touring have to have their work permits cleared through IATSE, or SOCAN, or whatever union they are associated with. The only way around it is if you are spending money rather than making money with the project, then it is ok. You can record, film, perform, even tour as long as it is 'costing' you to do so and you are not collecting revenue and making profits and tben leaving. So Donald either HAD to do it for free or not at all. The penalty for breaching this agreement could have meant being banned from working on films in the UK. It is not uncommon for major shooting schedules, touring dates, public appearances of celebrities to get cancelled or rescheduled, only because their paperwork , their permits or contracts were not completed or approved. Glad Donald decided to do it. It IS strange how whenever Kate invites other major artists to collaborate, their response is 'YES PLEASE..'
This goes for Elton John, Prince, Clapton, Gilmore, Peter Gabriel, the list goes on and on...

Hi Matt and yep that is Donald Sutherland in the video. The video itself was conceived by Kate and Python's Terry Gilliam, and was directed by Julian Doyle who had worked on 'Monty and The Holy Grail' and 'The Life of Brian', as well as Terry Gilliam's 'Brazil' and 'Time Bandits.' The video is one of Kate's numerous mini movie videos. I do think that if you were to turn your attention to the next KB video there are many that you could consider. But in terms of your own channel I do think that you might want to give serious consideration to the official video for 'Army Dreamers.' While I think it is a very, very good Kate Bush song, I wouldn't place it among her absolute greatest songs, but it has been going viral on Spotify etc for the last couple of months, driven largely by young people on Instagram and Tik Tok discovering it. The numbers for it have blown up a lot recently from a few tens of thousands per month to just under 1/2 million daily all in very short space of time, and from a purely selfish point of view you might find a bit of interest in a reaction to that video from new potential friends/subscribers. While I personally would rank a few of her songs above 'Army Dreamers,' the video is Very effective in what it sets out to do, and she is compelling from the beginning to the end of it.
Thanks again. 'Cloudbusting' is a good introduction to her videos, you have some very waters ahead of you to swim in.

Hi Matt, glad to see that you’re now watching music videos, particularly Kate’s, as she is so inventive. I think you would be blown away by Kate’s “Moments of Pleasure” too.

This historical story happened in Oregon and I live in Oregon. If you noticed they showed a newspaper that said "Oregon rain maker" or something like that. Kate is such a true artist, her imagination, her creativity, her musical genius, she dances, she sings, she composes, she directs, she produces, she does it all!

Oh! Sorry, didn't remember that. But I guess that means it was the FBI precursor? Either way, that's an important tidbit, cheers.

@@mattsnider2667 It was filmed in England, so they used props and actors from there. Kiefer was born in London, so his dad spent a lot of time there. I guess that's what firing paintballs out of a tank does to you.

It’s also been said that the role of Peter that Kate plays in the video son in real life was gay and is a reference to the last line (your sun/son’s coming out)

I don't know if this is still the case, but the rain machine built for the video apparently sat in Kate's garden as an ornamental feature.

Oh, this is a good one! 👌 Both song and video. And the song deserved an outstanding video.
I had forgotten about this song, but the lines "I just know that something good is gonna happen / I don't know when" have been very often in my head over the years. I just didn't remember where they came from! 😁 I was surprised now when I heard them.

The queen has spoken! 🥰😍 And someone just reminded me, there was a later track by the Utah Saints that featured Kate's vocals of that line in particular (I actually reacted to that one too, about a year ago), and apparently Kate even re-recorded that line for their song, as it needed to be timed slightly differently. So maybe the line stands out because you heard that later tune too? Either way, thanks for watching the video, love. 😘

@@mattsnider2667 I have never heard of Utah Saints, and I am pretty sure I remembered the lines from this song, it was such a hit. 😉 But I will check out the Utah Saints reaction, thanks for the tip. 🤗😘

Ah, there it is: my favorite video and song ever *Next to Mylène Farmer’s - Désenchantée
(I have always concidered her to be Kate’s French twin in spirit. Her video’s are very cinematic and beautiful. Definately worth checking out).

As a Kate Bush fan since 1979, yes, we have a lot of words about Kate.
Yes, she's Peter and Donald S. is Wilhelm.

It is Donald Sutherland. Terry Gilliam helped with the concept. Kate would go on to direct and choreograph later videos. The best of which is This Woman's Work. 🌧🌩

A sweet song but a surprising choice for a single?

    • @handsolo1209

I think in most cases, the suits at the record labels listen to the albums, so if they like a particular song, it gets chosen.
