    I was feeling a need for beauty while I worked on art projects. Thankfully, I found this live set. Love Sea & Cake. All their albums are gold to me.

    I first heard the S&C in 1995, the Nassau record. I was immediately intrigued by what I was hearing! John's drumming was so powerful but delicate and melodic. Sam and Archer's guitar interplay is so unmistakable and original, they compliment each other so well. Eric's tasty basslines fuses all of this together. Sam has a very distinctive voice and lyrical phrasing. They are just pure magic and their body of work is top notch. They've been one of the most unrated and influential bands of the past 30 years. They're like a little secret that not many people know about but should...Thank you for all the memories and brilliant music.

      It doesn't happen much, but when I meet a fan that isn't already a friend of mine it's always nice.

    Four Corners. I often play this first thing in the morning so my (12) year old daughter & I can get off to a good start ! Driving in the Bay Area many years ago I heard music so good and so distinctive I pulled off the road so I wouldn't lose the signal. KPFA didn't have a super powerful transmitter then. I called the station and got my answer: Shrimpboat. I grabbed their main two discs at the time and fell in love. Reading a rock mag maybe Alternative (yeah, I'll say!) Press I heard about a new band forming from the remnants of Shrimpboat; The Sea & Cake. I've pretty much absorbed each record as they've come out. Top (3) favorites for sure. Saw them early on at GAMH and to hear this wonderful and by now familiar mellow music pouring energy waves off the stage was one of best live music experiences. Seen them quite a few times now and remain top-notch. How about it when you have to "break-away" from speaking with your favorite artist. " Ok Sam gotta run" Jeez ! Just the nicest man.
    So much different from speaking with say....Ira or Stephen or Mac when I feel disarmed and bumbling. This quality of warm, calm ease & familiarity is how their music plays. John providing the energetic edge with powerful perfect playing. Long may the sun shine on Sea & Cake ! DKK

    The first time I saw them was at the Empty Bottle sometime in 96' I think. Still one of my favorite bands of all time.

    Saw them in Jacksonville, FL ~2000 in one of those lovely places where you just have to stand if you want to hear the music. I did. I believe they were touring in support of Oui. They were so damn tight; really locked in to the rhythm. Had a chance to speak to John McIntyre about his drumming and to Sam Prekop about his solo album. In my top 10 favorite concerts by a truly under appreciated band.

      @@arunrao598 June 12, 2018 at The Great American Music Hall 👍 Good show, but I thought the sound was really bad - way too loud. Sam told the sound man ti turn his monitor down. Had tickets to their show back in March - but it was a week before Covid shut down everything & I choose not to go - They played the same set from 2018...

    What a fine band. And the sound is great, too. I saw them last year in Cologne, and it sounded like transmitted live from a vault..from the other side of the planet...through a burst drainpipe... etc. Anyway, thanks a lot!!

    I think they skipped Atlanta for this tour but this reminds me of the One Bedroom tour show I saw in 2003 - just really awesome setlist and mix. The 96 and 2000 tour were really good too. I saw them again in 2007 and it was not a good show - the mix was terrible. They didn't have keyboards or as Sam is doing here playing a backtrack for the keyboard parts. Sam looks like he is really enjoying playing. Archer is still a a surgeon with his beautiful guitar melodies. John started a bit slow but by Afternoon Speak is on fire. The setlist here i awesome too. It's almost like they asked a hardcore Sea and Cake fan like me to create it.

    Doug McCombs! Cool to see him on the low strings, but what happened to Eric? Did he leave?

    • @wlouisharris
      @wlouisharris 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure but I had an interesting conversation with Doug before a Tortoise show in Seattle. I was out on vacation and got to see them. Before the show we were trying find out where the venue was and Doug had just finished sound check. He was saying it's getting real hard to get out and tour because some of the guys in the bands have families. Not sure about S&C but he said Tortoise could only go out a few weeks at a time. Just glad they are still playing live.
