COOL UPDATE! I randomly re-visited the URL for the secret menu item in May 2023, only to discover a DIFFERENT item compared with what was on offer in January! The spring summer 2023 item is a "Flaming Tomatina"!! Go check it out! Then tell me what you thought in the comments!

My friend John tells me that "Janai" is an informal way to say ‘it’s not,’ so coffee janai= coffee de wa nai. = ‘it’s not coffee’ hahhahaahahhahaha How appropriate!

Another comment by another friend: Janai = じゃない
I noticed about that word play after you left Japan.
And also, the logo of Janai Coffee denies coffee with a line across the word coffee, indicating that it is not coffee.

Someone also asked me whether it was an issue not speaking Japanese there. The menu is also in English, although the person at the entry only appeared to speak Japanese. I think you'd be fine by displaying your phone to get inside. And I'm assuming that reaching out to them in English by email in advance also works... (Necessity for this explained in the video)
