      It is good. I love the intro song!! It really sets the mood. They are kind of hit or miss when it comes to the movies they premiere. I would say 85% are winners, 15% are not worth watching but at least 35% to 45% maybe more are absolute gems so it makes up for the misses!!! lol I mean some of the movies Ive never seen but they are great and some of them scare the crap out of me! So for that .. . . It's my go to on the nights I actually have down time. I go straight to shower, P.J 's, curl up with my dog, my cat, a cup of Chai Tea, some Oudh incense and it's time for Creature Features. Lol. That's my night time ritual lol.

      "The Innocents" was based on "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James, the brother William James, the "Father of America Psychology" who was also a leading investigator of psychic phenomena. William James was co-founder and President of the American Society of Psychical Research.
      The very last scene in the "Innocents" when the governess kisses the boy is odd, because it is a key element of the story. The idea that sexual repression causing paranormal events have existed for some time, since the Victorian era. The trim and proper and sexually repressed governess may have been the source of the hauntings in the mansion. They may have been only in her mind.
      However, more recent parapsychological research, beginning perhaps in the 1950s and 60s have found poltergeist activity is often focused on individuals, not ghosts and spirits. Often these individuals are enduring inner tensions, of a sexual nature or not.
      In the b/w TV series "One Step Beyond" had an episode called "The Lovers" about poltergeist activity that incorporated this notion of poltergeist phenomena. The episode is available online

      This is almost exactly like the Haunting of Bly Manor. Seriously. The names and the story.

    • @MsBluheart
      @MsBluheart 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@melissastruxness512 Mike Flanagan based Bly Manor on this and Haunting of Hill House on Shirley Jackson's book. He barely touches on that story tho, only the names and the house. Frankly, I don't care for his poor imitations, even tho I am in the minority.

    The movie, The Innocents, was one of the first movies to scare the crap outa me as a kid. It helped that my step sister looked exactly like these kids. And she was scaryier than any movie I ever saw. Still is!

      I liked the movie, but in terms of scariness I think the 1963 movie The Haunting with Julie Harris was scarier. One thing though, was I never quite got the reason Miles dies in the end. Was it because he was truly possesed ?

    I think we all agree that this film is a classic psychological gothic tale. I'm sure Mr. Van Dahl's opening introduction to the show will be positive and Mr. Livingston, (for once) will agree.
    As for myself, this original film adaptation from James Henry's 1898 novella served as an inspiration for a couple of my music/video projects set around the same era.
    I recently discovered that singer Kate Bush and film director Guillermo del Toro also got their inspirations to produce "Never for Ever" (1980) and "Crimson Peak" (2015) respectfully.
    I'm happy I wasn't the only one :)

    Alas 'The Innocents' are not so innocent.This 1961 psychological horror movie is sure to provide more sleepless nights for us all. Have you ever looked in a mirror and seen a face behind you, only to turn quickly around and see nothing? Have you ever seen burning candles suddenly go out with a sudden gust of wind, even though your windows are shut? Have you ever heard the rattling of chains or footsteps on the stairs, even though you live alone? It's probably just your imagination......or maybe not! Saturday night....Fright night....BE THERE!

    Watching this as a kid I was terrified of the ghosts trying to get into the house to possess the innocents. As an adult it is clear to me that the governess is completely insane and should not be left alone with children. How did this movie change so much? Or did I?

    • @stevenlennon12
      @stevenlennon12 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you changed. u were too young to comprehend the subtleties of the mind and more importantly for this topic, the ambiguities that film makers choose to employ in their writing or directing. i mean we know she was crazy but there must be some dummy (lol) who thinks there really was ghosts

      I think Henry James meant the story to be ambiguous. We never find out if the ghosts can be seen by anybody or only by the governess & the story leaves us in doubt as to whether she is truly mad or the ghosts are really there.

    The 1961 version of Henry James's clasdoc " The Turn of the Screw" which had been made into several movies. This one was a scripted by Truman Capote of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "In Cold Blood" fame. Pamela Franklin is in a supporting role in probably one of her earliest films. Unlike most films here this is actually a serious major movie productuon with major stars like Deborah Kerr and Michael Rennie. Interesting to see if this will be as ponderous as the book and the other film efforts on it. See Richard Burton, Nichole Kidman and many others over tbe years. Henry James is heavy lifting.
