This is the fastest completion of Item Abuse. This beats the old record by penangbenny of 7:35 by huge 1180 frames (a total of 19.667 seconds.)

This TAS of Item Abuse contains many new small breaks and a few major ones that end up saving most of the time. Also, there were many optimizations on top of the breaks to add to the time saved. The major breaks include the new orange room strategy. This is just a faster version of Fethy's break idea. By eating a shell the same time you land on it with Yoshi, you bounce up, and you still have the shell, allowing you to do multiple consecutive jumps. This helped us skip most of the orange room. Another new break that saved a bunch of time was the purple room skip. In this room we grabbed the key the save frame we got the P Balloon, allowing use to fly under the level, and by timing it correctly, we ended with a speed of 52 for the rest of the level. Another minor break was the new strategy we used to pass through the ground in the water room. For this strategy, we went back to the original strategy of using two items to push Mario into the wall, and jumping. However, the old way had Mario run over to the muncher and back, which was very slow. Instead, we timed the shell to hit us as we were passing through the ground, saving around 43 frames over the other strategy (the one penangbenny used) of falling through the floor next to the muncher, to prevent having to run back to the muncher. Another new strategy that saved time was the unfinished air catch in the disco shell room. This allowed us to dive much faster to get under the muncher, rather than wait for the air catch to finish. Some other new ideas and optimizations saved some time, such as the new strategy in the first room, the extra shell jump in the disco shell room, and several optimizations of past strategies.

And the thin air jumps I suppose are just some invisible blocks Regnum and TFB put there to give the player more attempts until they figure out how to pass the jumps.

I’m convinced levels like these were never intended to be beaten by a human, and were always intended to push the limits of the game via TAS

That is literally what this is. On smwcentral there are standard hacks, which can be easier or more difficult than vanilla smw but use a generally classic design, there's kaizo:beginner, intermediate, and expert, which are very challenging hacks with linear paths that are very difficult for human players. Then there's tool assisted:kaizo which is kaizo designed to be played with tools such as save states, and tool assisted:pit which is meant to be a challenge for TASers and requires deep, intimate knowledge of the mechanics and glitches in smw. This is a pit hack.
That's not to say you shouldn't play standard and kaizo with tools, do whatever is fun for you, but standard and kaizo hacks are designed for RTA play, and both tool-assisted categories are designed with tool use in mind.

There is a fairly casual-frendly exploit at play here (you can try it at home!). Basically, at 2:00 he rides into a brown block while holding a rope. This pushes Mario from the rope, BUT the game still thinks he is holding it, which allows Mario to "climb" the air! We don't see it, but in the following mid-air jumps TFB probably presses up (or down) to "hold on" to air and then jumps from that hold in the very next frame (or maybe the same one, idk).

I can't believe there are people that can actually play this shit or even have the patience to get this far.
It is a Tool Assisted Speedrun, in other words, he isn't playing this normally.. He uses slow-downs and savestates to achieve this. Although it still requires great skills, if you look in the description, there was a total of 45K re-records, meaning he needed to record this same game 45,000< times. These people have no lives.
gassug 2 I think rerecords are the number of savestates he has loaded.

I'm really wondering, are the skull blocks hurt blocks? It seems like Mario is trying to dodge them, but at the same time he's coming so close to them that there could be a collision. On top of that, munchers are a static, constant hazard as well, is it just a choice of level design?

If you jump correctly you can jump off of walls and objects near, plus some glitches involved

Kinda like Kaizo but IMHO much more of a learning curve. Unlike with Kaizo, I'm pretty sure I'd lose patience long before gaining the skill, probably a lot of people would, which is why this is a TAS lol

Hello! If Mario gets pushed off a rope the game gets confused and lets you climb (and therefore jump) anywhere.
I'm sure that if you took an extremely talented runner, and forced them to practice this game and night for a decade, it would only take a couple hundred billion attempts to beat this time teal time.
