Stan Laurel had his phone number listed in the telephone directory in case any of his fans wanted to call and chat with him. That's the kind of person he was.
Stan seemed like a man with a heart of gold. I wish I have gotten to know him myself but I was born years after he passed. My ❤ goes out to his family and friends for their loss. 🙏🙏
they will be remembered till the end of time. Never in a million years will there be 2 men like Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. R.I.P Stan and Oliver. the hole
Those type of people don't exist anymore. Celebrities today instantly think they are better than common folk and won't bother with them, except when it comes to selling tickets.
Both should have received a knighthood. The turmoil between the 1st and Second World War, and the Great Depression, all the boys, including Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin (and others) lifted so many people's spirits and brought so much of the community together. Vera Lynne received a Dame hood for her war efforts to support and lift up the spirits of the men at war. Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy did exactly the same, but on screen and should have received the same. My only thought now is that I wonder if they are both recognised for their amazing contribution on the Hollywood Board Walk. Hope so. Such travesty and upheaval in both of their lives off set, yet born to smile, and entertain us with such professionalism, integrity, grace and "commedianship". RIP.
Velda Wells With respect, you unfamiliar with how such things worked both historically and currently. Firstly, Oliver Hardy was not eligible for a knighthood as he was not a citizen of either the United Kingdom or the Commonwealth. He could have been awarded an Honorary Knighthood, but these are exceptionally rare for people within the Arts and Entertainment and prior to the 1970’s almost unheard of. They were almost exclusively offered to Politicians, Diplomats, Military Personnel and the Nobility. Prior to the 1970’s very few people within the Arts and Entertainment were bestowed with any form of honour at all. The Beatles were awarded MBEs in 1965, but such was the outcry, a number of people previously given awards returned theirs and the general view was the awards had been cheapened by giving them to ‘pop stars’ who were undeserving. The exception to this general rule was Stage Actors, Playwrights, Classical Musicians and Composers. Even then Stage Actors had to be ‘serious actors’ and primarily known for performing the works of outstanding playwrights such as Shakespeare, Wild and Shaw. Thus Olivier, Richardson, Redgrave and Coward were early recipients. The awarding of honours relaxed somewhat in 1975, which is when Vera Lynn was made a Dame and Charlie Chaplin a knight at the age of 85. The simple truth is, Stan Laurel died before most actors were considered as suitable to receive anything. If, like Chaplin, Laurel had lived into his 80s and thus alive in 1975, he would have been made a Knight. He certainly deserved it as much as Chaplin did, though I’d say he was more deserving.

“Poor Babe” Stan Laurel remarks in this recorded interview as Oliver Hardy had just recently died. They were very close all their professional lives and you can hear the sorrow in his voice. Also, when he speaks of the terminally ill fan.
It appears that both he and Babe had huge hearts. They've been making me laugh for over four decades. You can tell something is really funny when you know the joke, know the dialogue, know the punchline, and it still makes you laugh.
I read that Stan was so distraught when Olly died that he couldn't go to his funeral. He commented "Babe would understand." I have never thought badly about Stan because of this due to his extreme bereavement over losing such a close friend and colleague. He wasn't in the best of health at that point in his life and it could have ended up being two funerals instead of one, he was so upset. At least we had Stan for a few years more.

Whenever I'm feeling a bit down I love to watch Laurel and Hardy.
This is rare, a star who is constantly aware he needs to connect with his audience offscreen as well.
Respect at the highest level. He do not need an accolade because he has such respect, that is worth bucketful more !
I’m getting on myself and it’s so sad growing old when the people you love so dear who have always protected you pass on one by one and you start to feel very vulnerable..I hope I get to see them again someday 🫶
Sir Stan Laurel, salute and rip
Watched these with my dad now my boys are watching them with me and we are laughing together. Laurel and hardy 👍
Two comedic greats sadly missed totally loved
God bless Laurel & Hardy and may it be well today for their families. They had the whole family in laughter when we were young and they still do now over 40 years on.
He was a lovely man and a comic genius. He always felt like one of my family.
