Repaint the black on the hood and tops of fenders. Get a paintless dent repair guy to straighten up the body and buff it. It is so original. What a find.

Good find. I was working for Chrysler Corp. when we were building those cars. As a powertrain engineer, it always makes me smile when I see one brought back from the grave.
That car has great bones. I'm a long time roadrunner guy and I do have a copper bronze 69 and a lime green 70. An awesome find.Both were 383 cars. The 70 is a 4 speed bench seat car. Love em both. 440's are the power now. Hope you enjoy the roadrunner.

He is actually tame on his street lol...I used to peel out etc..I lived in a nice upper end neighborhood lol...I had 1 female who used to yell at me lol and 1 guy who calmly ,very calmly (probably scared as I am tall,muscular and was a fighter then did amateur boxing then) he talked politely to me and that's when I settled down..Yelling made me do it worse lol... I now live on acreage!! I had people who were fine with it,so it all depends...I didn't rev my engines much or do brake stands but left a 240 foot black mark form my 440 Chrysler 300,all stock(besides mufflers,duel plane intake,carb wasnt even the high performance magnum or tnt version the 350 hp probably 80 more at least with intake/carb/distributor and I found headers for it.original used to blow the doors off 5.0 Mustang 5 speed with that car! Was my daily driver,had a 73 Cuda 451 (400 stroker)4 speed and 4.56 gears car ran 10's back then street tires 275 60 series,engine wasn't really built 540 horse big cam I wanted it to rumble!!! We put a milder cam and did the heads she ran 10.0's I redid the bod exact 71 clone(I did that to my 72-74 Cuda-Barracuda's,sorrry guys) and my 68 Charger RT I owned for years..The Cuda would shake the windows of houses 2 doors down!!! lol,I want those days back,mainly because I was younger,single,females all the time and raced all the time...Drugs and Booze were good too lol!!! What the heck did I write,sorry for the blog!!!
Damn Chris, sure brings back memories. My third Mopar (being first was a 72 340 Duster, but first running car a 70 Road Runner (also an N96 car) was a 69 RM21N code Runner......only option it had was literally suregrip 3.23s...no power brakes, steering or even a radio! Fun car for a lil 120lb when wet teenager (this was around 2003-2004).
Great find!!!!! Its amazing how many old Mopar's are still out there to be found! And not rusted,bent,twisted wrecks that I still restore and after the work,it was worth it,but to find a clean car like this is well golden lol!!! I always liked 383's I could get 25 mpg with them without opening up the 4bbl!!
Nice. Its a sweet Runner. I had a 68 383 4 Speed it was sweet. Back In 1974.when I. Was 17. Maybe someday I'll get another one. If I had the money. I would bie Yours if you would sell it. That's a really nice Car I would say my Self. A lot you can do with it.

I'm semi retired at 47 from owning a small paint and bodyshop 30plus years . Health reasons have slowed me down. I think I have 1more hotrod build in me . Thanks for sharing.

Ahhhh. Hearing that stock gear-reduction starter crank that 383 into life is music to my ears! Not to mention the fact that the engine sounds strong & healthy. It will make one hell of a daily driver for sure!

A bit of a long winded post but I have some shit to tell you. The thing is this, that 383 has probably had a hard life. It would be very nice to pull a main cap and check out the bearings, but I'll tell you a little story of what happened to me that has more than a passing resemblance to this 383. Years ago, I bought a good runner 2bbl 383 which I heard running. My vision was to put a 4bbl and some headers etc but when I got it home the bores were badly worn. The bore condition looked fine but the lip at the top on the thrust side indicated the motor needed a rebore. The big end bearings were at the end of their useful life as the copper backing material was just beginning to become visible. The motor was dead silent like this too when I ran it. I just wanted to put steel shim head gaskets back on it, to get the comp back to where the factory had it and this is why I took the heads off. I put a set of big ends and mains in it, replaced the rod bolts too but I did take the crank out of it (the motor was a good runner remember). I put a new camshaft in it and the cheapest double row chain I could find. A couple of exhaust valves were slightly burned so the heads got patched. I also put a set of single valve springs with dampers and reused the fairly worn out rocker arms. The shafts were worn too. It was just okay. It went into a Dart so of course it went well but when you revved it up it blew the PCV out of the rocker cover and the smoking got worse, then it would be alright if you didn't thrash it for awhile. What's the point of having a 383 dart and not revving it up? Not much point, so naturally I couldn't help myself and would rev it to 6500 a couple of times and the smoking would start over. Eventually (within a year) when I revved it up all the oil got stuck in the top of the motor due to the excessive blow by and the oil pressure light came on and the lifters started rattling and it ran a cam lobe. Should've used that money to fix it properly. That's my advice to you. Take it or leave it lol. To potentially save you from my fate, if this were my 383 I'd do the job on the motor. Just some good but cost effective hyperutectic pistons, resize the rods with new bolts, a new front balancer, drill the block for 1/2" oil pump pickup and use a new stock pump with fully grooved mains. Run a windage tray. If it has 906 heads on it keep them under the bench and run some smog heads - they're excellent and a bit better than the 906s (despite what people say - if you want proof I'll send you 3 links to extensive flow bench testing testing of 915, 906 vs smog heads by steve dulcich). That way you can keep the original heads if you ever want to restore the car. Machine the setup for the compression you want with steel shim gaskets in the .018" thou thickness range, that way if it rattles then you can put some thick composite gaskets on it to lower the comp .5:1. It is a good street tuning aid that tip. Being a 4sp I'd put adjustable rocker arms in it and run a flat tappet solid lifter camshaft with matching springs. I say this because as I'm sure you know 383s love to rev and never seem to be able to fulfill their high rpm potential because of the idiot hydraulic lifter camshaft in them. They are just such a fun engine, why not rev the bejesus out of them in a survivor car like you have? As you probably know all 383s had forged cranks in them so they're usually adequate for 7000rpm and 4-450hp. Re the rockers that 440 joint has them and they are reasonably priced. If you want some proper rockers, Summit has nodular iron (like 273 LA's and Max Wedge had) though they are starting to get expensive but still under $1000 for everything. They make them in standard offset and Max Wedge offset (we want the standard offset). They are a bit of an investment but will serve you for many years and many rebuilds in any B or RB engine. You won't get that from the 440 source roller rockers. As a matter of interest, these days they even make an iron 4.5" bore low deck block and while it isn't exactly cheap it is so much better than the already excellent 383 block. They have the mains cross bolted like a Hemi but with 2 extra cross bolted caps - so all 5, and the oil system is priority, ie it goes to the mains bearings first. With the 383 stroke and a 4.5' bore they come out at about well 426ish cubes. I've often thought of building an 8000rpm street motor with this new big bore block. I think they're in the $4k range. So long as you don't ventilate it, it will still be around in about 1000 years I reckon. Stage VI B/RB Wedge heads flow almost as much air as a Hemi head (around 350cfm @ .575" lift) and on a B engine are designed to fit an RB intake (even an RB cross ram), since they have raised intake ports. Pretty cool eh?

My dad had a red road runner 383 4 speed car with the air grabber hood and was the love of his life then he met mom and some time after I came along, I'd like to think I was conceived in that car lol but who knows I never asked. I think dad got rid of it when he and mom still lived in Atlanta GA, so if your seeing this comment and have a red RR you bought from a good ole boy from the mountain's of NC named Michael and was sporting a perm then HMU in the comments!! I only have one pic of it in the parking lot of an apartment complex in ATL with mom standing in front of it, But was told lots of stories about it from family and they said it was a bad ass ride. Never talked to dad about it cause unfortunately he died when I was 9 but mom told me about dad raising all manner of hell in it. Seeing this beauty brings back memories of those crazy stories!!!! Bought one brand new when I came home from Vietnam. Paid $2,750 cash for it...it was orange/black with the 383, 727 auto trans, 3.55 rear axle, bench seat, rubber floors, and painted steelies with dog dish caps. Man I miss that car. I wish I knew then what I know now.

As a matter of interest, these days they even make an iron 4.5" bore low deck block and while it isn't exactly cheap it is so much better than the already excellent 383 block. They have the mains cross bolted like a Hemi but with 2 extra cross bolted caps - so all 5, and the oil system is priority, ie it goes to the mains bearings first. With the 383 stroke and a 4.5' bore they come out at about well 426ish cubes. I've often thought of building an 8000rpm street motor with this new big bore block. I think they're in the $4k range. So long as you don't ventilate it, it will still be around in about 1000 years I reckon.
Stage VI B/RB Wedge heads flow almost as much air as a Hemi head (around 350cfm @ .575" lift) and on a B engine are designed to fit an RB intake (even an RB cross ram), since they have raised intake ports. Pretty cool eh?

My dad had a red road runner 383 4 speed car with the air grabber hood and was the love of his life then he met mom and some time after I came along, I'd like to think I was conceived in that car lol but who knows I never asked. I think dad got rid of it when he and mom still lived in Atlanta GA, so if your seeing this comment and have a red RR you bought from a good ole boy from the mountain's of NC named Michael and was sporting a perm then HMU in the comments!! I only have one pic of it in the parking lot of an apartment complex in ATL with mom standing in front of it, But was told lots of stories about it from family and they said it was a bad ass ride. Never talked to dad about it cause unfortunately he died when I was 9 but mom told me about dad raising all manner of hell in it. Seeing this beauty brings back memories of those crazy stories!!!! Thanks for the Awesome content!!!!! Can't wait to see more of this time capsule lol!!!!

Bought one brand new when I came home from Vietnam. Paid $2,750 cash for it...it was orange/black with the 383, 727 auto trans, 3.55 rear axle, bench seat, rubber floors, and painted steelies with dog dish caps. Man I miss that car. I wish I knew then what I know now.
