When I was 14 I was in a band with Jet and he asked me to show him how Diamonds went as he had forgotten. I think around 1967/68. He eventually got his thing back together and showed why he was the best of the best! R.I.P Jet and thanks for the pleasure of letting me play on stage with you even if I was a young sprat!

Jett Harris and To y Meehan produced "Diamonds, Scarlet O'Hara and my favourite Applejack after leaving the Shadows. Wow such lost talent, but I'm an old man now and love to reminese.

Forever associated with Newcastle Speedway during the 1970s and early 80s, in my memory, and totally right for a speedway team. Confession: the same memories also dredge up "Loving You", which all the girls used to request from the Boogaloo Disco for Joe Owen or Tom Owen (not quite so apt).

Did'nt know it,but age 13 in 1964 I moved to Sth London, from Nth Wales were all the guitar playing hopefully had gone straight from Lonnie D, Peter Paul & Mary to the Beatles. I hooked up with other guitar hopefully at my new school ,who were Jet Harris fan and I got to pickup this last fling of UK rock/ skiffle. Was it Shadow esque?or were the Shadows Jet esque? For my part then in 1964 it was great fretboard excercise but just did'nt ring my bell in the way , that Jonn+Paul did! ,however a talented fellow who did'nt die young but burnt out never the less. Jet is playing in the video with a Fender Jaguar not the Fender Bass VI he used in the original recording so the sound we hear in the audio is one octave lower than you can get playing with a guitar. I guess they used this other video for the sake of this TH-cam clip. I searched for a live performance of Diamonds with Jet and Tony but could not find it.

Ilyenek manapság, már nem lelhetők. A mai együttesek, pár éven belül elfelejtődnek, ám, ezek a régi együttesek, pl: a SHADOWS egy örök életre beírták magukat a történelemkönyvbe, de nem véletlenül. DIAMONDS najväčší hit dvojice JET HARRIS AND TONY MEEHAN, ktorý bol v UK rebríčku 13 týždňov od 10. januara 1963 a ako 146. hit dňa 31. januara 1963 nahradil na vrchole pieseň Dance On skupiny The Shadows ironiou osudu skupiny v ktorej hrali spoločne predtým krátku dobu. This record was at No.1 in the UK when I started following the pop chart. I had never heard of Jet Harris or Tony Meehan and didn't realise they were former members of The Shadows, who I had heard about. At No.2 were a group with a funny name The Beatles, who I also had never heard of. I assumed they must be some kind of novelty act similar to The Chipmunks. I was quite a bit wrong about that.

When I was 3 or 4, my mum had this single and I loved it. Years later I was a huge fan of Led Zeppelin. I got a hell of a shock when I found out Jimmy Page was credited with the studio guitar solo.

This song came back to life 10yrs ago at the Kennedy Center during a Led Zeppelin’s induction video. Terrific hit. But who was first, these folks or The Ventures?

I'm no expert either...but when a drummer can mimick the notes to an instrumental...that is called...FABULOUS....

I saw Jet and Tony play live at Nottingham Playhouse around 1964/5. Fun concert- Jet always moody and Tony looked like a preppy schoolboy.

Does anyone know who played the tenor sax solo on the "original" hit recording? This is what I have found which may not be correct; Personnel: Jet Harris (electric lead bass guitar), Tony Meehan (drums), Jimmy Page (acoustic guitar), John Paul Jones (electric bass guitar), Glenn Hughes and Chris Hughes (baritone saxophone, tenor saxophone and piano), unknown (backing vocal). Thanks.

Curious what band were backing Jet. No Tony Meehan there. Joe Morreti Glenn Hughes Chris Hughes John Baldwin that took over from us Jetblacks in '63. We were with Jet when jet and Tony were number one with Diamonds. Tony at that time didn't want to go on the road. maybe the concert was 1964/5 after Jet's split with Tony.??
