    • @sunnythemutt4467
      @sunnythemutt4467 7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      you can train a cat with treats too, in their own frame of learning. I dont know about leaving the dog alone, but is not very difficult to make the cat tolerate the pressence of the dog even if the cat does not wanna be touched by the dog.
      I have not trained anything to my cats, one of them likes the dog, other likes the dog but not to be touched by her, and the third cat tolerates the dog but does not want contact. I have taught my dog a not bad come when called using their food. there are some videos around about it.

Be careful with your dog's behavior....i was always too afraid to address it because I didnt want him hurting a cat. I guess it just made him worse by not facing it. Idk if there's any hope for him now but if i had it to do over again id make him spend all our time together with a cat and make him wear a basket muzzle (in addition to supervision and guidance). He's the sweetest dog and very obedient otherwise

      How's it going four years later with your husky and cat? Just curious, because I have two huskies, and the one I raised from a pup is completely fine with her, but the older one (from a shelter) is just nuts for this cat. Got him to a place where he'll listen pretty good...unless we leave the room. Then all bets are off. (This same dog dislikes little dogs, too. )

    Along with my earlier responses to different ppl complaining about not knowing what to do, i wanna suggest that on top of never giving up & trying every single method out there, another huge thing that we need to consider is that a lot of times, it is us, the owners that need to change our energies & dispositions while trying to teach them.
    If we're nervous, feeling desperate, upset or if within the household there's strife, tenseness & all around negativity, our pets especially dogs do get effected by that. Try changing yourselves or your family dynamics & see what happens! :)

      I just adopted a huskypoo, 2 yrs old, goes after my cats like he wants to eat them. I have seven cats...a feral mom and her now 4 year old babies! They hide in the bedroom all day. It's hard to train the dog when the cats won't come around, but I don't blame them for hiding!

    • @ModelSeries
      @ModelSeries 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@teri8964 I had 2 dogs that wanted to eat my kittens and 1 of the dogs was a hunting plotthound. I put the kitten in a safe crate for about a couple of weeks with a small litterbox until the dogs ignored the kittens. Then I slowly introduced them to each other and it worked out. Not only were both dogs fine with the kitten they also made friends with the neighborhood cats.
      Currently, I adopted a border collie and he's blind, but still chases my cats who were raised with two dogs that I just mentioned. I think I have to cut out all rough play with the new dog and no fetch play. I think the key is for the dog to associate the cats as part of his pack and to view the cats as boring.

    Great video. We have eight cats - just acquired a stray dog sitting at the end of our driveway. She is very friendly, hyper active & wants to chase the cats. They are closed off in other rooms right now. Been working with basic training (as you said to do first & exercise). She is young, Border Collie mixed with Husky (Blue eyes, pointy ears, coat like a Husky with tail curled over her back) black & white markings like a Border Collie. She is also in heat. Vet checked for chip - no chip. Notice out with photo - no response. We are in the SW Arizona Desert & our area is know for dog & cat dumping no longer wanted animals - sad. Will continue to work with her for training, attention & of course exercise. We have an appointment Dec. 16, 2022 for spay, chip & shots. Thank you for putting this video out & will check your other videos. Judi

    One of the things that (oddly) helped my boyfriend's larger dog behave better around my two cats was introducing her to smaller dogs. She's gotten much better with the cats. She still sometimes has the urge to chase them and she'll paw at them to try to keep them still, but she's not trying to eat them or anything. I think the technique of keeping the dog's attention while the cat is around will work wonders.

    Love the training videos they have been so helpful in preparing to bring home our puppy and the first few months of having him home. He’s almost 4 months old and LOVES to chase after our cat and to play but he wants to wrestle which the cat hates, we have been working hard to keep him from doing it but progress is very slow and sometimes he bites the cat pretty hard. I at least have an area of the house for just the cat so he has a safe place to relax and eat, but I want the cat to be able to hang with all of us without the dog going after him.

She knows the command "no kitty" but can't resist jumping up where the kitty (we have three) is and adding a chase if we don't get her attention first. Kitties are used to dogs our Belgian Terv passed away in November 2018 @ 12 1/2 yrs old and we have a 9 1/2 year old Sheltie who is friends with all the cats.. Just couldn't resist adding another Belgian to the family.... She will "wait" but not consistently, she can be gentle and sniff the cats - but, that inner I just want to play with them takes over. NicoleKristine well in my case I had to train both the dog and the cat to actually get along, I got cat and dog treats ( any small amount of meat would work ) and put the treats in the same room and letting them go to it, I eventually moved it closer and closer before they were in the same area,

    • @Hitsugayafan12
      @Hitsugayafan12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NicoleKristine a cat can feel very threatened by a new puppy especially if you’re spending a lot of time with the puppy. the cat will get jealous and feel like you don’t love them anymore. make sure you still play plenty or cuddle or pet your cat without the dog there so they know you still love them. it can be very overwhelming to have a new puppy for them, especially when their territory is compromised. not sure what to do about the cat being scared of the dog barking. try giving treats when you see a reaction from your cat that you like when the dog gets a little noisy, but also train your dog the “focus” command to snap out of that heightened mindset so you can stop them from barking.

But it makes sense to run him out when he tries to chase kitty. I live in apartment and take him to nearby dog park for a few hours. He sleeps for hours when he's back. Now, we've rescued a German Shepard & are trying to have him & the cat be friends & get along in the house. The 1st week, neither one of them messed with the other & we thought we got lucky! Then week 2, the dog went after the cat & cornered her....couldn't tell if he was playing but it seemed like he was not. Now I've put a gate up in the hall so the cat stays on one side & the dog is on the other but I don't want it to be like this forever!! Previous dog owner always left him outside so it's been an adjustment to get him comfortable with even coming in the house or walking (& slipping a lot) on the hardwood floors...I just don't know what else to do & can't afford a trainer for that many sessions, PLEASE HELP! I just a rescued a dog and we are trying to teach it to stay away from the cat. I'm reading everything I can and checking out all the training videos. There is a lot of good information out there. I must admit that I regret getting the dog, even though he is really cute. It wasn't fair to my cat. :(

      A Jack Russel may never stop chasing the cat, especially if it’s purebred. They are working dogs bred to vicious killers of little critters.

      This breaks my heart because I’m afraid it’s going to happen in my house. One dog is fine the other is an asshole. The cats don’t bother them at all, they just want to do their own thing and not be quarantined in a bedroom with 4 hour breaks. It’s unfair. My husband is attached to the dogs. I am not, sadly. I am attached to the kittens. I have tried everything. Treats, distraction, medication, separate rooms, it’s annoying and the only way to knownif it will change is to let Bugz alone and see what he will do if cats are being watched so vigilantly by me but if he gets ahold of them, having Pitt bull jaws, he will do serious damage. I hope you got help and both pets are getting a long better. It would definitely Ive me hope

    I have a Belgian Malinois that is now 5 months old. I got her when she was 3-1/2 months. She can just watch my 2 cats sometimes, but it’s crazy with them hissing and barking at each other a lot when they are in the same room. Most times my one cat hides behind the couch or on the bed. I’ve been teaching her the “leave it” command, but I need to train her more. One of my cats runs and then my puppy wants to chase, but I know she just wants to play with them, but the cats want nothing to do with her. It has gotten better and I do believe one day they will be buddies. Patience and persistence!…

      Shanti-re Alem'neh make sure that you introduce your puppy to the other animals it will be living with at a young age. When you first introduce your puppy make sure to be watching them constantly, but remember that it will take time.

      My borderian collsky is a night mare on walks she looks at exactly everything tries to chase cars real cars sometimes if I'm lucky enough to see my buses pass by the 205 and X1 she tries to chase the 205 which usually a midget bus and sometimes a single decker but with the X1 its a different story that's usually a double decker and I'm talking about real buses but with x1 because sometimes the bus engine is really loud even louder than they idiots that have racket cars but moving back to my borderian collsky and buses she sometimes get a fright from the bus that is a double decker but when the X1 has picked up a single decker she tries to chase. After it then sometimes if the X1 has picked up a quiet double decker bus my dog goes crazy and starts running like a total twit chasing after the X1 very rarely but sometimes she runs and barks like a heedless chicken at the bus and then I'm sore for the rest of the day sometimes for a full week and because she is so attracted to exactly everything on the walk she does no violet outside then goes out to the front or the back garden and does her needs there do u have any advice

    We just started fostering a one year old dog named Moose yesterday and he is absolutely perfect except for his desire to chase and play with the cats. We have three cats that we have had for years now so we really hope to get him to start having good manners with them by the time our foster ends so we can adopt him. He seems to be able to grasp the command "leave it" when we take him for walks so I really think he can show us some good kitty manners. We definitely want him to learn this for when we go on hikes so he doesn't try to take off after other small critters.

    My dog is a hearding dog and usually taking her outside to play or tiring her out playing around the house works best so I was glad to see that in the video! The only time it’s hard to keep her back is when I give my cat attention because my dog gets jealous even if I pet both at the same time she crawls into my lap and pushes the cat out of the way. Sometimes it’s funny but it can also be frustrating when I want to spend time with just my cat and I don’t wanna put my dog in the other room because then she’s even more sad.

At least it’s a puppy so it will grow up with the cats...

    Our cats are 15 year old ragdoll
    Chilled tolerant
    One is a pushover and the pup senses it
    The other is stronger
    Put the pup in his place day one and continued to swipe and chase the pup over the months
    Pup has been very respectful of him but still over exuberant with the other one
    We can call him away most times and use food as reward
    Thnx for vid..it helped a lot!

    I’ve got a golden retriever puppy (12 weeks) and 3 cats (aged 7y, 7m, and 4m). Our puppy is an exuberant, mouthy, and somewhat “dominant” for lack of a better word puppy compared to the goldens we’ve raised in the past.
    The two older cats have no problem putting the puppy in his place when he chases or mouths at them. He just gets frustrated and barks at them. But the 4 month old kitten lets puppy MAUL him. He’s always soaking wet because the puppy stands on all fours over him in a dominant gesture and bites all over the kittens fur and stomps on him as an attempt to offer “play” bows etc. The little kitty just doesn’t know how to protect himself and assert himself effectively. What’s worse is that he seems to WANT the puppy’s attention, and will flop down on the ground in front of the puppy and then end up getting bloody scratches on his ears from the puppy’s sharp teeth.
    How can we help the puppy leave the kitten alone or play more gently if the kitten is seemingly into BDSM?
