Came here for a detrans story. Ended up getting schooled on Isreali/Palestinian politics by a well spoken, thoughtful lesbian. Another great show, thanks Benjamin for having her! 👍👍
I was extremely impressed with Maia. Have said this many times, but she has something special and wish her all the success with her lofty goals. We need those goals and one who aspires to reach them ❤
This woman is one of my favorite guests on this channel. She is so intelligent, eloquent, and articulate. Due to her level of self-awareness and ability to communicate, this is one of the first times where I can clearly understand the connection between being gay and non-gender conforming and interpreting that as being “trans.” I’ve had a hard time wrapping my head around that one for a while now, as a Gen-Xer who sees sexuality and gender as so separate from one another.
A very intelligent de-transistor who has very carefully thought out every step of their journey. And Benjamin, I admire your willingness to give your guests from varied backgrounds, beliefs and experiences a safe zone to speak.
Apparently my previous comment was deleted...weird... tr4nsg3nd3rism IS gay conversion therapy. Period. Trans are the most homophobic because homosexuality disproves their entire ideology
Not related to transition specifically, but I feel like I relate to you (Maia) so much 😭. Also a lesbian, also feeling pressured abt wanting to dress more butch/masc, also currently waiting to study abroad for independence (i am in a muslim country rn), constantly feeling paranoid about parents, trying to find joy in the few romantic experiences i’ve had so far, going through heartbreaks alone, reading SBB (though I related to Therese more when I read it), etc. etc. Just wanted to thank you for that because it’s soooo real and helped me feel less isolated for a bit
The more I listen to this woman the more I am so extremely impressed with her brain! ❤ What a bright curious mind! I am so happy she didn’t become ensnared in the Woke Cult and that she is going to go on to share her wisdom, insight, curiosity, and no doubt be a happy, well-adjusted, humble individual in this crazy world!! I wish her all the best, and I can hardly believe that she is so extremely in-touch and based at her young age. This is not meant in an ageist way at all-just noticing that fewer people in her age group are so grounded in reality and engrossed in critical thinking and curious thought-provoking mental processes, and it is soooo refreshing! I would certainly LOVE subscribing to her TH-cam channel if she does create one.
"Bomb shelters are particularly depressing places to be because there is no wi-fi in there ." Unintentionally funny ; seriously interesting and valid discussion however. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. 😊
Was thinking the same thing…I ended up rewinding a lot and re-listening to parts, just to hear her talk some more. I can see how she fit with adults better than her own peers. She is so mature, self-aware, and insightful!
My favorite parts of Calmvesations is when Benjamin's jokes fall flat and the guests snicker and give that "Ha, good one" look. Never not makes me chuckle.
I haven't finished listening yet, so I don't know if the topic comes up, but Maia's description of her childhood experience sounds like textbook autism (with ADHD). Of course at the time they wouldn't have recognized it, but we know so much more about autism in females now! 🙌
I think she managed to fly under so many radars, I wonder who to blame about it. She felt like a "problem" to her parents about being premature and all the developmental issues, she probably stopped bringing up any issues, and when they reacted so badly at her being "male" it shut her up.
This was a wonderful conversation. She is a smart, deeply intelligent and deeply introspective woman. I’m so glad she found her PEACE. I wish I could set up a meeting with my daughter. She has finally grown enough yet also seems to be stunted and un permissible to herself to just be herself. The ideology is so disturbing to developing minds. Maybe she will get there too, I’m here to help her
WHERE WERE HER PARENTS THAT WHOLE TIME? She was left to figure all of this out by herself! I am really in disbelief how completely absent parents are in all of these detransition cases.
Fantastic interview, really interesting, especially towards the end on looking at possible commonalities in how 2 superficially different cults spread and damaged ppl and how we need to plan to manage longer term fallout as well as firefighting immediate problem.
Stories of detransiton are absolutely horrific. These kids were perfectly healthy and now their body has been mutilated and their brains screwed up. I can't imagine anyone who would willingly let their child go through transition knowing this stuff
And parents who didn't talk things out with her. Intelligent children can't just be told "because I said so." They'll find a way around the rule. They need to know why what they're doing is harmful. Many well meaning parents don't know this. For example, she had no idea that she was a girl. I'm sure her parents were unaware of this because they didn't ask her what she thought about herself. They just wanted her to stop acting "weird" without considering the cause or even if it was weird in a socially ostracizing way.
Web MD always leads to cancer, no matter what the symtom. I noticed thst years ago and never go there. It shouldn't surprise me that feeling attraction also winds up leading to cancer, too.
I am a transman, 52 years of age who is pro Israel. I wanted to be a boy when I was a child but didn't known that transmen exists. Today there is more education about transmen fortunately.
31:40 This person just described two indicators of autism. Oh, well, people who are different must now comply to the new, fashionable, supposedly socially acceptable conformity.
Maybe no one has asked them if they're autistic? Have they ever been tested? They've been focused on much larger things for many years. They already know about ADHD, it's just something they need to explore.
Having to rely on a drug for life would be enough to stop me from doing anything. You never know what finances will be. Insurance isn't guarenteed. Im surprised insurance pays for a voluntary plastic surgery now, and then lifelong drugs to go with it? Can we rely on that to last forever? Also, as Maia said, availability is not certain no matter where you live, imo.
I understand what "social contagion" means, but for some reason I just fully processed, that the way I used to think certain music and stuff was cool, Gen Z gets into transition like it's a cool cultural scene...w...t...fffff.

This lovely girl said she grew up knowing what trans was but not recognising what gay was. How did that happen?

Hello Benjamin and Maia. 👋🏻
Stories of detransiton are absolutely horrific. These kids were perfectly healthy and now their body has been mutilated and their brains screwed up. I can't imagine anyone who would willingly let their child go through transition knowing this stuff
Parents are shamed into it and told to affirm.
@jcimsn8464 oh for sure, but they also don't know this stuff happens.
