I think everyone will be glad to know that Mayumi joined Miami Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet the same month this video was published! She is still dancing there as a corps de ballet member as of now.
I started getting a lot of ballet recommendations and I have no idea why. It’s kinda creepy, it’s like my phone heard me talking about it with my Physio a few weeks ago. (We’re modifying my exercises to be more like the ones I did back when I did ballet many years ago, which helps a lot with familiarity and motivation. I also then understand exactly which muscles it’s supposed to target, because they’re all exercises I’ve done before. Highly recommend asking your Physio if you can slightly adjust an exercise to be something that makes sense to you, you’ll get a lot more out of it).
Guys, if you're curious - she did it! She's been in *A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Bourrée Fantasque, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, La Source, Raymonda Variations, Swan Lake, Symphony in Three Movements, and In The Upper Room* so far. Edit - and so did her friend
I’m 15 and am a “beginner” dancer in my school dance program. My instructor has been teaching for 11 years and in college had Jazz, Ballet, and modern dance lessons. She recommended for me to register into a ballet studio because she said I shouldn’t limit my potential. I became very passionate about dancing and now I feel like if I continue working hard and smart I’ll be a great dancer
I miss dancing, I did it for 8 years and then i quit because of how stressful it became. Don’t give up on doing something you love no matter how hard it gets because you will regret it.
As of July 2020: Mayumi Enokibara: corps, Miami City Ballet Ella Titus: corps, Miami City Ballet Valeriia Chaykina: corps, Joffrey Ballet Margarita Armas: studying at Pacific Northwest Ballet School Unfortunately I can’t find any information about Carlos and Gustavo :(
I wish I didn't stop ballet 😕 I started at 2 and wanted to stop at 7 but now I want to do it so badly again but I don't think I have the flexibility or strength
+AyeeItsEm it's never too late! It's better to be a little tighter, as you get older, the over-flexibility can work against you. Check out my channel, I'm posting videos on stretching the safe way, and I love talking about dance. I've been dancing professionally for over 20 years, and I survived a major foot injury. 10 years off, came back stronger than ever. So again, it's never too late :)
Doga Celikay, can you watch TH-cam videos and start learning on your own? If you have a chair with a solid back to use as a barre, you can start doing plies and tendus. I realize that this does not replace a good teacher, but there are also a lot of bad teachers out there. Find your favorite ballet dancer, ask them where they studied, then see if you can find info online!
I’m 16 with zero flexibility, and zero experience in ballet. I was so nervous to start but I finally did! And I’m so happy I did😊💕 If you wanna start ballet just do it, ur never to old
I can't dance to save my life, but I've always loved ballet. The artistry and strength that it takes... just wow! I played ice hockey for 7 years and people always said, "oh, that must be so difficult!" But ballet seems even more so. I have major respect for ANYONE who does ballet and dedicates their lives to this beautiful art form
What truly makes ballet so difficult is that you need to be strong like an athlete but delicate as a flower. You're not supposed to look as strong as you are. It's really an oxymoron.
I'm a young artist (still going to school) and i don't like dancing at all. but the intensive expression that it shows inspires me. Thats the best thing about dancing
I wish my life could be like this. I want to do ballet 24/7 and get really good but I go to a low class ballet school and only go to one lesson a week... 😁😁😁😁
Because of this series I have decided to start ballet my first lesson was around a month ago and tbh I don't think I could have done everything without this series
i love watching this, it gives me so much hope. you can see the passion and love in her eyes when you see her talking about her ballet, i really hope she gets the contract
I think they could do something like this for equestrians. Young equestrians go through similar things as ballet dancers. its all dedication and getting the good positions and everything.
What about figure skaters? I've always wondered about what they do. I ride horses all the time and that would be cool but its also kind of boring watching a person ride tbh
This is amazing to see! I start ballet when I was 7 years old. Now I'm 12 years old. Sometimes I want to start earlyer with ballet but than I realise me that now it's the perfect moment for me! My little sister is almost 3years old and in a few weeks she is storting her first lessons! Now at home we dance together and I learn her Some combinations, tricks and that kind of stuff! My little Brother (10) is doing ballet too! And My other little sister is 3 months now and I think she should be doing ballet to! So we're a ballet-family at all! My mom and Dad aren't dancers or something ;-) It's amazing for me to she how the ballet-life is going! I Really really want to do auditions for a acadamy in Rotterdam, Holland (where I live) so it's wonderful to see this people who get the same dream as me! Okay, WoW a hole life-story about me here:)
I think you started at a perfect time! And it's great that you can dance with all of your family! I think if you want to become a professional then you should start no later than you teens so you started great! Good luck with getting to auditions! :)
I used to dance but had to stop for medical reasons (severe halux valgus in both feet). After 8 years of dancing around 5 times a week,i miss it so much and I'm always in pain. So watching videos like these take me back so thanks
Just out of curiosity - how would the ballet company feel about a ballerina with a pixie cut? These girls have stunning hair! But I was just wondering since they were all wearing a ponytail, which is probably part of the movement as well, how it would 'fit' in the idea. Are such things enclosed in a contract?
I'm a dancer and I don't think many would mind, I knew a dancer who had a pixie cut and she never said anything but probaly if you want a pro career then you might have to grow your hair😶 but tbh ballet is changing so you never know😀
Charlie Noah when i was still dancing we had this rule that we needed to have long hair so we can tie it in a bun plus no bangs allowed i guess pixie cut would be more suited if you do contemporary but as for classical you would need to be able to tie your hair
Margarita Campuzano I find this really interesting ! I'm usually all about showcasing your individuality, but I can imagine uniformity is preferable for the presentation during a dance. Thanks for replying :)
michelle katherine artuz Didn't even think about bangs. The focus and dedication of the ballerina's is of the chart! It really goes from head to toe ;) Thanks for the insight. Interesting!
I have seen the Miami City Ballet preform on stage live and they are amazing. And the Mayumi (don’t know how to spell) was by far my favorite dancer there!
Mayumi looks very similar (just a bit older) to a ballet student in my ballet class, Bonnie. She’s 1st of her year, she’s smart, she’s sweet, she even sounds like Mayumi.
I know how hard it is. I used to like to dance ballet but there were no place where I could do that. Now I am 16 and I'm in a drama class where are stage movement and this year we had ballet. But I still don't care how hard it is, because I like it.
HarryStylesLover I've been dancing ballet since I was 8 and have never had my splits (although I have done it just one class a year as a hobby), and only once by fluke after doing a kick exercise did I actually go down into my right split because my legs gave up trying to resist keeping me from it. xD I'm also returning from a knee injury and after two years lost a lot of what flexibility I did have and am returning to ballet this fall 3 times a week. Just work on stretching and strengthening. That's what I'm focusing on this summer and have improved. It is not just about flexibility. I have, at one point, been able to hold my leg higher than another student who was more flexible, simply because I had more strength in my leg to hold it more steady. So, I suggest, focus on strengthening and flexibility. I love a program called Front Splits Fast. It is pricey, yes, but works. Stretching alone has never helped me by itself, but you can always try that first. Also ballet related exercises, things like Pilates, PiYo, barre exercises, or just working out at the gym (I do a mix). Even if you are a beginner, you can do it. There's two dancers with football history in an adult class I took to try out the studio and it was neat. :D
I'm not really flexible either but I do take ballet. What you want to do is stretch everyday to be flexible... It's going to be really painful but if you really want to it's the only way.
Go Mayumi! Sometimes I think, having a stimulant like a teacher, everyday class, constant rehearsal makes getting down to it easier. But when there are jobs out there that no one can push you with except yourself, that you set the time and deadlines, is when it becomes hard.
All the money goes to pointe shoes, 70$ a pair and they barely last a week, something is not right about the ballet shoe industry; could they make shoes that last longer???
Νίκη Χανδρή the company pays for the shoes, and for a student they can last about three months, but scince professional ballet dancers dance so much, the shoes don’t last as long.
I started dance at 9 and ballet at 11. It's never too late to start! Follow your dreams :) I am a competitive dancer and it's such a great experience. I love ballet, it's great! Go try it!
Not at all. If you haven't heard of her, Misty Copeland is a great inspiration. She started at 13, but there is so much more to her story. You should read her book "Life in Motion":) Best wishes!!
Everyone's saying "I'm wanting to start ballet but I think I'm too old." Age doesn't matter. Go for it. :) ballet is amazing
True, my dad started when he was like 20 I think. But it helps a lot if you start young
the you
thank you I'm just 11
11 isn't too late! if you want to dance just work hard and you can do it!
I started dancing at 8 but then I had to move to a place with no dance studios at 13, but now I'm moving back and I can't wait to start dancing again!
I think everyone will be glad to know that Mayumi joined Miami Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet the same month this video was published! She is still dancing there as a corps de ballet member as of now.

Not at all. If you haven't heard of her, Misty Copeland is a great inspiration. She started at 13, but there is so much more to her story. You should read her book "Life in Motion":) Best wishes!!

Love this series 💜
I love ballet more than anything. Please season 3 we are readyyy
When will we see episode 2?....It's been 2 weeks already :(
Some people say ballet is not a competitive thing to do. If u went into one of those auditions it is extremely competitive in the ballet world
does anyone know if they post episodes on a certain day of the week or is it just whenever?
