This is a big ass smartphone..... if they would´ve worked around those bezzels a bit..... and some thickness instead, i think it would be much more usable. Great review tho. Bought this a few days ago with global rom for Google Play. Huge screen, just as I like. Ok, not the top specs, ie camera of Samsung 8, but a third of the price, but still very good, great screen, plenty of internal storage, and the battery life is very good, best I've had in a smartphone.
Should I wait for a P2 successor? BTW I think my problem with Lenovo is their updates. But otherwise P2 is a great phone. One of my choices but still can't decide

i bought this and i gotta say its a beast... it can handle ALMOST everything you throw at it..bigger screen wont be a problem to me cuz I'm always into bigger size smartphone.. even though it doesn't have LTE Band, its still quite fast in my country... the fact they downgraded the chipset is truly sad.. really.. this device could have been perfect... well i guess an hope they will make it all on mi max 3.. if they even planning on that.. and one of the most frustrating is that this device cannot play GTA San Andreas... it will constantly Force close the game, rendered it as unplayable.. what a shame.... but overall.. i am really2 satisfied.. and no regrets buying it
This is not a phone for the mainstream. This phone targets people who want big screen to watch movies, are not into intense graphics games, want to have long battery life, don't care so much with camera. I bought one for my 9 year old girl. A full tablet would be too bulky for her and a regular phone would take toll on her eyes as the screen would be too small. My take on the phablet is, it's the best option in the mid range phablet. One bonus. USB TYPE C!

19hrs SOT!!!??? that is incredible! I have a similar usage pattern eg mostly on wifi, not a heavy gamer etc, so this would really suit me. The camera looks ok, I've got the note 4 (MTK) model and while the camera isnt that great its still perfectly usable.

Great video & great review! The phone is much better, apart from the processor (specially shown in gaming and apps launching). As fas as camera goes, using Open camera & Camera 2 api, I can get much better night photos with note 4x (i mean even compared to your mi max 2 --- as far as camera 2 api, enable it in settings of open camera, if it's not available you have to root & add a specific line in build prop to enable it). I've find that in night photos using a shutter speed between 0.4 sec and 0.7 (max of note 4x) and an iso of 100-200 gives me photos that have almost no noise.

Nice review. I love big screen mobiles. At present I'm using Samsung Mega 6.3 ( 6.3 inches) and I'm very satisfied with it. Now I want to upgrade frm 3G to 4G and was looking forward to Mi Max 2 but it disappointed in some areas like 625 processor, camera issues, video sound issues. Now confused whether to buy it or wait for another version (if they really launched) of it may be Mi Max 2 Prime with 660 processor, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM with improved camera performance.
One thing I've seen on almost every Xiaomi is they cameras disappoint. They aren't good at optimizing them at all. Maybe there will be a Mi Max 2 Prime, they are pumping out different models all the time.

I have reviewed this video again after 2 years. Back then i admired the phenomenal SOT of this phone but really... 19 hours. Thats not possible. I bought the phone and the best i could do is somewhere around 8 hours SOT (if i'm lucky). On average it does 6-7 hours of sot. Again, that is far more than any other phone i had so far so for me it was a great investment. This great difference between real life figures and the figures shown in your videos makes me question the validity of those reviews. Maybe it would be better if you used the phone in real life situations for like a week or so and then did a real review. Real life situations being: 4g not wifi, gps on, bt on, both sim slots in use... and so on... you get the point.
Great review and phone, hopefully they'll start to sell in the American market soon. Until then, my ZTE Axon 7 is just fine to me for at least another year or two.

Mi phones are great. I am using one from last 2 years. They don't explode like Samsung and also cheaper. Some fake news came about mi battery explode but it's proved that they were not mi devices
do you know if they will be releasing a global rom version that will cover band 20 and all google sevices preinstalled like they did with the original mi max?
global roms cover all bands, the original mi max global rom version which i owned had band 20 but i got rid of it because the compass function didnt work.

I'm sure the video sound issue will be fixed and the blue tinting sometimes in lower light or HDR. But the focus issues they never seem to fix.

Daylight photos yes, but the Mi 5's OIS helps more low light to I feel.

I tested it, it's for the most part smooth. When there is a lot going onscreen there will be small lags and stutters.

How much is the difference in gaming? Is it big? Im planning to have mi max. But if the difference is gaming is very minimal i might go mi max2.

Mi phones are great. I am using one from last 2 years. They don't explode like Samsung and also cheaper.

I'm sure they will soon, global ROM that is. Band 20 not sure about that.
global roms cover all bands, the original mi max global rom version which i owned had band 20 but i got rid of it because the compass function didnt work.
Less number on processor's name doesn't mean that was downgraded, in fact, it's newer and faster
