NHS, fire service, royal mail, doctors, teachers and many other sections GO ON STRIKE! But NOT TRUCK DRIVERS? (WHY)?, only if ALL TRUCK DRIVERS WENT ON STRIKE IN UK, then something will happen. Wages for TRUCK drivers is very LOW IN UK. Everything in prices has increased, but not truck drivers wages!

im super happy with my place. im doing multi-drop at coop stores, decent rates and the managment is very relaxed. ive seen agency and ltd people struggling for work atm. tough times are already here.
Just hung up the keys last month. While I like driving a Class 1 around, the pay is $hite and long hours. Transport manager keeps checking your whereabouts and expects you to finish the shift as soon as possible to save money as the pay is calculated hourly.
Feel sorry for all these new drivers who came into the industry believing they're going to earn 52k a year. That's all to do with the media and government with the bullshit driver shortage. See you was driving to boohoo Burnley there Raul.
I left a high paid job to do this. 2 years later I regret it. Hanging my keys up soon and cutting my licence up trying to get my old job back. This industry is SHIT
As a new driver I'm finding it impossible to find work too - everyone wants experienced drivers. I think the market is just slowing down because of the recession. Ride it out a few months and see what happens.
I'm also in the same boat, everyone wants at minimum 3 months experience and don't call back, or its a short conversation because they don't read a CV, they also refuse an assessment, i'm pretty sure it's an insurance thing, them dictating a minimum experience level before they would be covered.
I am also experiencing this in South Wales. From what I'm hearing a lot of new starters to the industry were taken on, then because the training is minimal, they end up learning on the companies time and at the company's cost when it goes wrong. So the companies dont want to foot the bill anymore.
there's not a driver shortage there's a work shortage. I switched from a national parcel company in April as i saw that when times get tough no needs a new " present" but we all need essentials. I'm with an agency contracted to NHS supply chain as the hospitals need there stuff all year round. Even they have not replaced drivers leaving just re allocated the runs but the pay is nearly £16ph but with very little overtime. Tip of the iceberg now to what's predicted next year . Good luck Raul with the business venture.
I’m on £12.75 an hour class 1 😢 But on zero hours contract. I couldn’t get anything as a new pass driver 3 months ago. I got offered one job out of 40 I applied for. And I’m still there now. Hours are long and tax man has a field day with it being weekly pay 😤
I really think the quiet period we are having is due to the recession and not the new drivers coming aboard (of course it’s not helping). I work as a container driver and all the drivers here are saying they haven’t seen the docks this quiet in years.
After over 45 years of driving I have retired to Spain 4 years ago. I think we had the best years. European & Eastern block. Had some good fun as well. Now the company I used to work for does mainly UK & Belgium. Quite boring imo. Good luck for the future.
Been in class 1 for thirty years and retired three years ago, lots of half decent jobs lots of rubbish and just a handful of good ones. But like drivers in genral you have to move around and find youre niche, its not for everyone but the pay definitely helps if your happy were you are.
I noticed last month when I looked at the drivers market how the pay had massively gone down and just the lack of choice out there. If you want half decent pay then you have to commute for these jobs which is not something I would want to do unless I had to,which It may come to if there's nothing else.I think It may be a case of riding It out till something better comes along, which you can do as an agency driver.
here in Ireland they are crying out for bus drivers at the moment problem is some bus companys dnt wnt to pay good wages plus the cost off living over here is crazy
I got them texts about the double manned jobs in Deeside too. If you have ADR, the place I'm working at in Widnes are looking for drivers. I'm doing Monday - Friday at the minute averaging 10-11hrs
@@Maciejkka yes there are many of them based near amazon fulfilment centres. They usually have up to 10 trucks each. Some of them advertise on indeed or there is some facebook groups like amazon hgv driver etc.
I'd not say new drivers are the reason of low pay. However I'm struggling to find Class 1 job now as a new pass driver. I do have 5 months of Class 2 experience which means I know WTD and EU hours rules but 99% of employers demand at least of 6 months C+E experience. Even those who pay 13ph for night shift. To be fair I did not expect it will be so hard to find job this time of the year in Midlands
We are heading into a massive recession that is why the rates are dropping because people do not need drivers because there is no work. Unless you are working on fridges as people always need food. I was on £16 per hour last week and have been asked for overtime over Christmas. In fact I just got an e-mail to vote on how our retention bonus will be paid for next year which is £6 a shift. Being on the agency isn't all its cracked up to be.
Na I stay in my bus was planning to quid and my bus depot it’s 5 minutes walk no commute to work for me to jump on a truck has to be 300/400 more a week
i work for a company doing nightshift double manned/jump jockeying. average shift is 12-13 hours because they need the units back for the dayshift to drive. Payed by the shift, works out about £12.50 an hour so quite shit, but i just go for a sleep when i'm not driving, so i'm getting paid to sleep ~1/3 of the shift.
12.50 is a joke on class1. I've been doing some agency shifts on a 7.5t and have been getting a fair bit more than that. Don't blame you for blanking them
Good luck with the new venture. Wages after taking into account inflation have dropped across the board for all sectors. It could be a difficult 24 months.
Just a thought Raul, could you train as an HGV instructor or maybe a basic driving instructor? You cetainly appear to have the temperament and personality for that.
Probably because you drive a Merc. I won’t drive anything other than Scania, unless it’s Agency work. If I’m employed or looking for a full time job, first question is, Is it a Scania ?
Alot of negative comments in here . I passed my Class 1 Oct 22 got an ADR Tanker job straight away ( not agency ) had choice of mon-fri tramping or 4 on 4 off tramping . Took the 4/4 . some shifts are lond but mainly do 12-13 hours . I enjoy staying out only downsdie i see is the absoulte awful facilities we truckers have to put up with , I'd rather shower in the rain than step into a cubicle .
hope it all works out for you Raul689 driving is not the same as it was 20 years ago shame. PS im driving a small scana 2 days a week that's all I need 😁😁😁
I sometimes wonder if Truck Drivers had a Association to Represent Drivers issues problem. that could try to tackle some of the many issues Truckers have to deal with / put up with. Personally I enjoy my job but how we can be treated and poor expensive services/ Facilities and so on that still grinds my gears and I do have days thinking am I better off doing something else.
Another class video making loads of sense. I work 4 day tramping to increase wage... Day shift is horrendous money. I manage around 550 a week on 4 on 4 off ... Love the camera too, do you use a remote pan/tilt cam mount?
I have recently just passed my class 2, now taking my CPC. Reading these comments is making me worried I won't lie. This is something that I really want to do. I do currently drive for a living now but the uncertainty of what is ahead of me does scare me. I dont mind being on 'meh' money for the first year or so whilst I get experience so that in the hope that experience then leads me onto more. any advice from anyone would be valuable.
@@BillyBones4365 ye fuck that mate. But if someone just passed his test multi drop is the best shot for them for 13 14 quids for some time to get experience
Always good to have up your sleave. Get some experience learn what you like and what you don’t like. Stay or leave industry. Remember you can walk back in and make a quick quid if required. Dont feel tied to industry.
Apparently driving a bin lorry class 2 work is pretty decent on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern. From what I’ve been told, it’s around £30k + for 6 months work and early finishes.
This isn't really aimed at trucking, just the workforce in general. I think the only way to get ahead is find a decent full-time job with regular hours and OK money and stick at it. Job hopping and self-employed is OK but if you work it out it's not worth it.
Class 1 since 2003 here but gave it up after five years. Tachograph refulations, poor infrastructure for sleeping/refuelling. Narrow, congested roads that shouldn't have class 1 allowed on there. Argumentative, difficult people at distribution centres/management. The real money is sleeping in the cab five nights a week. Well, no thanks I have a life and children to see grow up. I'd sooner get my taxi license (currently planning to do so) or worse scenario, buy a pedal bike and deliver takeaways locally. You can log on and off whenever you want and are not stuck in an awkward vehicle with unsuitable infrastructure. Pre tachograph (1987), or usa/australia/Canada then maybe the job is OK. In the UK the job is horrid.
I'm in the same boat the wages are pure dung not worth the hassle 1 or 2 pound more than minimum wage after spending thousands on our license an CPC just isn't worth it 15 pound per hour stacking shelves zero worries home every night not treated like a piece of shit
Don't think it is the new drivers. It is the post Brexit effect/recession. Try Ireland, not feeling the Brexit effect yet and none of the new rules that by pass the category C licence (Class 2) so still some demand for experienced EC (Class 1) drivers. Some artic driver roles paying €20 to €25 per hour.
It blows my mind how the pay for drivers in the UK fluctuates. Even with the BS we have in the states.. that doesn't happen here in the United States. If a company says you're getting a pay cut, 99% chance their going out of business. Ppl would leave. UK seems like a shitty country to be a trucker in. Better for owner operators, I'd hope. Do all companies/jobs in the UK fluctuate pay or is it just trucking? companies? 12.50 an hour is fast food pay! That's ridiculous pay for a driver, even a newbie. Why go through the process just to make the same as someone flipping burgers.. fuck that
Not sure about other places but you are right the rates are all over the place. I guess it's supply and demand. Last year we were earning twice as much as this year. I wouldn't go as owner operator tbh. Too much hassle and with 2 trucks you won't make it anywhere
@@Raul689 pretty sad man. Glad you have other options though. Not stuck only driving. Freight rates fluctuate here like everywhere else but, thankfully not the pay..
It will 100% be at least partially to do with new drivers. Companies are always looking for a way to screw the workers and line their own pockets. If a new driver goes from maybe minimum wage to £12-£13 an hour they're happy with it for a starting point at least and these companies know the industry has just been flooded with new drivers over the last year or so so they're taking the opportunity to take the piss lol. I got really lucky by the sounds of it as I got a company that put me through my licence in may and I get £16 an hour for a 48 hour week with chance for overtime too but my plan was originally to go on agency after a while because the money was so good when I passed my test. I hope it backfires for these greedy companies! It's all well and good getting a new driver to come for a lower wage but surely they are causing a fair bit of damage (I know I have in my first 6 months xD)
Do not worry Raul. Let the dreamers have their taste of the hgv industry and won't be long the companies restart to raise wages cause they make run away drivers. Some people prefer to learn by spending a lot of money and some people listen advises and do other jobs instead. But most of the new ones think big lorries big wages. 40 50k a year. In their dreams. Then at the time of the interview they end up to get 11£ 12 an hour. Wait and be patient. Meanwhile you doing right to do some other jobs and let the cowboys dreamers have some fun on the road till the dream suddenly transforms in a nightmares. Good luck with your new job.
its 21hrs shift for double manned I think mate. thats absolutely shocking, I am surprised you say Mercs are bad for breaking thought mate, I love the mercs. we moved to gas volvos at the moment and ther are pretty good but I still feel more comfortable in a merc and over 10 years of using the same merc for 6 years I never had a problem with her. even the old Axor I had for 3 years I never had a problem
Hi Raul, it's not unreasonable for you to want a decent wage for the job you do. After all, like the majority of truck drivers, you are a professional who shoulders a very significant responsibility every time you climb into your cab. As you say, wages are driven by supply and demand, so too much (driver) supply equals lower pay rates. Have you considered setting up a commercial vehicle driving school? Perhaps this could help you get to a more profitable side of the profession?
The agencies are a symptom of a problem rather than the problem itself. Companies are too quick to misuse agency staff who really should be used for short term requirements instead of how a lot of them do it now.
Hey Raul how do you get the camera to rotate whilst filming? Do you have a little remote control? Trying to work out if it’s worth upgrading from a GoPro Black 8 cheers mate
I know where you working, remember your old videos. But - why don't you try Royal Mail? I'm full time there, but I have friends from agency. Agency getting paid 20.50 per hour. Now is busy there, but after busy period at least 3 days guaranteed. You choose days you want to work. Also warrington, brand new depot should be not far from you.

I took my door supervisor, guards badge and working at Cabot Circus now in Bristol. 4 on 4 off and finish on time everyday. It's not for everyone but I'm far happier now than when stuck behind a wheel. Good luck guys.
Absolute fact, hgv in the UK is dead.
I'd genuinely advise anyone considering it, DONT, save your money or study a trade.
Totally right👍🏻 worse thing I’ve ever done!

Exactly no hgv driver gone on strike we all should. Country be on its knees
Because the drivers are too fragmented and there is no union
@J H 💯 correct,
Once I start trucking, I shall try and gather all truck drivers, starting next month December 2022!
@@mkr1390 i really want to become a HGV driver, but these comments are making me rethink my decision… I’m scared to be honest :(
What do you think? Are you doing a course? Do you already have your license?
@hazza on last stage, module 4 cpc is left, test is next month, hopefully then I would be able to work straight away. Don't look at videos, get the license, and remember we all learn from mistakes, so don't be afraid. Only concern is how to get all truck drivers together and start a strike for wage to go up!
Hello Raul.. Good to hear from you.. hope your new business goes well... just as you said you've to noticed the moneys going down. wise man and very articulate
2 months ago they said we didn’t have enough drivers. The lesson here is really how unstable being a hired gun in any industry can be.
World wide post Covid19 Recession hitting supply chains. It will resolve in a year or so and there will be a demand for drivers again. However, Brexit hasn't helped the UK haulage industry.
I'm lucky. Passed in September, got a full time job in October. £19 an hour.

im super happy with my place. im doing multi-drop at coop stores, decent rates and the managment is very relaxed. ive seen agency and ltd people struggling for work atm. tough times are already here.
I got told I’d earn that amount more like 30K with OT and bonus it’s dire. Binned it.
We're in peak time now heading into December. Industry drops off from Jan to April.
I'm also in the same boat, everyone wants at minimum 3 months experience and don't call back, or its a short conversation because they don't read a CV, they also refuse an assessment, i'm pretty sure it's an insurance thing, them dictating a minimum experience level before they would be covered.
Having the exact same problem mate, thought it was just me having no luck
@@vallarian9690 go with an agency
I lost my HGV licence and not sure what to do all I know is this industry I was driving a wagon for 9 years any ideas what to go into..
your handing in ya spurs raul and jacking the job wherre gonna get our fix of HGV driving now
Ive got £13.85(14:00-22:00)at great bear on counterbalance, planing to pass the class 2 soon.
Been in class 1 for thirty years and retired three years ago, lots of half decent jobs lots of rubbish and just a handful of good ones. But like drivers in genral you have to move around and find youre niche, its not for everyone but the pay definitely helps if your happy were you are.
Best thing i ever did was pack truck driving in
I noticed last month when I looked at the drivers market how the pay had massively gone down and just the lack of choice out there. If you want half decent pay then you have to commute for these jobs which is not something I would want to do unless I had to,which It may come to if there's nothing else.I think It may be a case of riding It out till something better comes along, which you can do as an agency driver.
As an English driver I'm now looking at working abroad.....

Damn, I just got my Class 1
you can do 21 hours double manned.
It is strangely quiet. Most companies just don't need drivers
Wow that’s just over the national living wage, what ever happened to the big shortages and high rates?
I'm in Oxfordshire and I dont leave the house for less than £18ph on agency.
Payed by the shift, works out about £12.50 an hour so quite shit, but i just go for a sleep when i'm not driving, so i'm getting paid to sleep ~1/3 of the shift.
not bad
It’s down because not new drivers. Because of economic changes coming. And this only just beginning.
A foreigner moaning about our UK driving rates you couldn't make it up lol !! The irony 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
12.50 is a joke on class1. I've been doing some agency shifts on a 7.5t and have been getting a fair bit more than that. Don't blame you for blanking them
£12.50 is taking the piss. I’m shocked.
Good luck with the new venture. Wages after taking into account inflation have dropped across the board for all sectors. It could be a difficult 24 months.
the recession start to bite,,,,next two years gona be nightmare
Just a thought Raul, could you train as an HGV instructor or maybe a basic driving instructor? You cetainly appear to have the temperament and personality for that.
Don't think i have the patience to deal with so many people 😄
Probably because you drive a Merc.

I sometimes wonder if Truck Drivers had a Association to Represent Drivers issues problem. that could try to tackle some of the many issues Truckers have to deal with / put up with. Probably better off staying where you are. No tacho chew

11 to 1150 over here your wages in England are far better
I am sure if u post in hgv drivers group there will be something
Good luck with your new job.
its 21hrs shift for double manned I think mate.
thats absolutely shocking,
I am surprised you say Mercs are bad for breaking thought mate, I love the mercs. we moved to gas volvos at the moment and ther are pretty good but I still feel more comfortable in a merc and over 10 years of using the same merc for 6 years I never had a problem with her. even the old Axor I had for 3 years I never had a problem
Those Axor's were some beasts!
Never considered tbh. But who knows maybe i should 😁
My local Lidl is paying 10.40 an hour. Don't seem fair given the skill, long unsociable hours and responsibility required in your job.
but there is a driver shortage ?
never was
Good luck for your future wish you the best . Not looking positive for the future lorry drivers.
What camera do you use to vog
I use a gopro max
The whole logistics industry is a mess. Agencies have a lot to answer for. Wages are all over the place.
The agencies are a symptom of a problem rather than the problem itself. Companies are too quick to misuse agency staff who really should be used for short term requirements instead of how a lot of them do it now.
What camera are you using looks decent I like the way it rotates
