in 1967 i lived at 525 so walnut bloomington in. i was going to central jr hs, i witnessed the entire fire. my mother worked at woolworth on the square, and helped out at the parkway rest. next door to us including the day of the fire when mom and maude (the owner) were serving free coffee to fireman and spectators. my sister worked at the cresent donut shop at 1st and walnut and owner lee drake was bringing donuts. i was 13 and always eating, south walnut was heaven for teen always looking for food. from the donut shop to frisch's on the square, the kfc was new, my favorite was the penguin dairy bar i can still taste the bbq sandwich omg. we moved back to indy shortly after that where i went to howe hs (1971) then joined the navy. ironically i worked for the indianapolis fire dept for 30 yrs. i would like to say thank you for taking the time to make the videos of the fire and the tour of south walnut which i walked hundreds of times. it was wonderful to experience bloomington in the mid 60s. no one appreciates these videos more than me, again thanks. jim holmes jumpnjmy@yahoo.com

This is a nice program taken from the book. what disapoints me is that WTIU pick who they wanted on the show, not even the person that put the book together had know ideal who was going to be on the program, it would of been nice if everyone knew about this project. I hope they did not show the drawing of the first Log Cabin Court House (1818) without my permission. Dennis E. Matthews Monroe County Historian Emeritus.
