Made it on the thumbnail🤩🤩🤩
Jude, wait until you see the intro to episode 1 😉
And well deserved too much love from New Zealand
You’re him Jude
We are them
wow you’re so cool
Nice change of pace, Mike. I'm looking forward to the Quad Tandems - they look like hard work. Thank you so much for always working on things that are interesting and worthwhile. 😊😊
Downie your personality fits these kinds of videos wonderfully! you bring the energy and make everyone smile. I love the branching out to different kinds of videos
I absolutely love what you did in episode 1. Very excited for the rest of this series. Great job with the story telling.
I just finished watching the Kara & Nate ride across the USA in a 3 seater bike so this was a neat surprise!
Thanks Downielive! Just watched this with my son Colin Ashby, seat three on team USA. Great footage, looking forward to the next episode.
Yes, thank you!! This was an awesome video! The footage was fantastic. Counting the days until part 2!!
@emilyashby2508 glad to hear you’ve enjoyed it so far! Lots more action to come!
Quite a start for all the teams. It’s crazy this occurs with quad tandems right after the Kara & Nate series riding a trandem across the USA. Yes, 3100 miles CA to MD with 2 sets of 3 riders. Women for 1/2 day and men to finish each day. They had many of the same issues.
A lot of issues on this one. Thinking quad bikes are not really built for this. Seems like a bit more engineering needs to go into making things tougher. Totally psyched to watch the series though. Thanks for taking us along and thanks to all the participated and helped with the journey.
So excited for these series! Also, the WIRTH hats are great and their commitment to mental health is amazing.
What the fork ! 😮 Glad everyone survived the spills and thrills. Thanks for sharing their journey. Wheely good stuff ! 🍁🤙
Exciting series, Mike! I think some more engineering needs to go into the quad bikes. That was a pretty scary fall for Team New Zealand! Ordering my Live WIRTH hat today.
Don't worry we have the "she'll be right" get back on it attitude much love from New Zealand
As a kiwi myself I was pleasantly surprised to see a NZ team taking part, even if their fall took them out. Hope they weren't too banged up. The episode definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and I can't wait to see how the event plays out!
Wow, so much mayhem on day one! I just finished watching Kara and Nate cycle across the US in 36 days, and while their bike broke down a lot too, their back wheel only stopped spinning on day 30 or so... Either they got really lucky or adding just one more rider really increases the technical risks exponentially! I hope things got better for the race after day one...
Same here, and I completely agree, so much force and weight with just 3 ppl
Also, these guys are racing, meaning pushing harder on the bike than just riding.
Same here. Very concerning about the breakdown. The trandem had much less pressure yet same chain issues. Interesting to see how it all goes.. .
😉 If you have the Quad Championship again next year, I think Kara & Nate will probably enter. They've been doing a cycle challenge almost every year: Tuscany, Colorado Trail, Ragbrai, and Across America.
I can hear James T. Kirk from Star Trek saying,"To Boldly Go Where No Quad Tandem Bike Team Has Gone Before!" 👍🏾🤣
I had never known this was a thing till I saw your intro, and I also am fascinated by the roles and the different mechanics required to make these bikes work! This is fantastic! And nice wheels (motorized and manual!)
Loving it. The idea of the guy in the back braking and changing gears is insane. I'd love to see a team Germany in future
honestly I think the bike management aspects of this race add a wild card element that's pretty fun to watch
Absolutely!
Didn’t think I would enjoy this series, but now I can’t wait for the next video. As an Aussie I’m going for team Kiwi. ❤
This series is so exciting! Can't wait til the next one!
Such a good first episode can’t wait to watch the next ones!!
This is gonna be great fun! For me sitting at home watching...
Can't wait to see what happens.
Wow. This first episode has everything: hope, drama, terrible cycling puns, and some epic road rash. 😮😮 Looking forward to the next episodes!🚴👍😁
been hyped for this series !!! the channel is downie live!! much love from australia mate
Stoked for the next one! Want more Jude ❤️
I recommend dropper posts to assist in safer starts/stops. As soon as the team is rolling they can raise their saddles.
When starting, I recommend the rear rider starts raising the saddle once the bike is stable, then each rider calls out forward in turn as they raise their saddles and get into cruising position and cadence.
On a stop the posts can all drop together or as each rider desires.
Downie I hope every year this event gets bigger and bigger and more countries from all over the globe join in
That NZ fork failure is insane!
Love the BC interior ♥🍁 I found you during covid when I was homesick for Canada - your channel was such a help. Now that I can visit home again, I watch it for fun and joy
I had no idea this existed. Thanks for showing us, Mike. I can't wait to see the next video!
Fantastic, entertaining, unique, scary and looking like so much fun. Can't wait for part 2
me and my dad been long time watchers n just realised i wasn’t subscribed! awesome video downie keep it up!
Wow this is exciting, love a bit of a change. Cannot wait for the next episode 👏👏
I’m hooked!! This is 10/10 storytelling. Can’t wait for next week 🚴🏻🚴🏻♀️🚴🏻🚴🏻♀️
Yay! Thank you!
Awesome man, that's awesome...!! I'm a daily basis Urban Biker, so I loved this chapter. I bet next one is gonna be so exciting as well. 😃🚲👍
This is actually a pretty awesome series!!! Keep Killing the content🍻🍻
Awesome Filming as always....That seems like a really tuff sport.... Can't wait to get my Wirth hat!...I love all the good you do!! see you next week and I guess I do know where your going....
I can’t wait for the whole world to know when Julian’s birthday is 😂
That was awesome! Those front forks on the kiwi bike folded up like paper though 😮. Roll on part 2!
Coming soon!
There's something slightly ironic about Team USA shouting "USA! USA!" in the shadow of a Canadian Tire. lol
Turning on my notification for this after watching your other vid!
Woah! Just done Watching Kara and Nate Trandom Bike Series it feels like Quad Bike is the upgrade ☺️
such a badass start to the series! i need more!!
Very interesting - I'm surprised that tandem quads aren't built more robustly .
This looks Fun! As this catches on engineering with catch up. Looking forward to the series!
We have a bike ride across our state once a year. It's not a race just a ride. They probably have from 10,000 to 20,000 riders riding at least part of the ride. They have several ambulances traveling with them, along with military biker groups that help others out riding across the state. It's quite a big deal.
Looking forward to this!
It is a competition that requires a lot of skill and patience but is full of fun and entertainment. I am someone who has wanted to see a competition like this for a long time. It's almost Christmas now. Do you have anything special for Christmas? I am especially excited about your channel and videos my love...💖
Awesome video - What route are you taking? What area of BC? (I am guessing?) Can't wait for part two
So excited for this series!!!
Love your energy as always but wish we had an introduction on the race. Where is it located. Where does it start, where does it end, etc.
This sport needs to be made official
That was really exciting! I hope that with time bigger crowds and biger investments goes into quad tandem
You and me both!
Quads ALWAYS need the cranks set out of phase (90 degree offset)! We always do this on our Quads, Quints, & 6 person bikes here @ Santana Cycles Inc. to help the rear wheel hub live a long & happy life!
What a first day. Last time I was able to watch all the videos at once....waiting a week is going to be tough LOL. Great jib to all
I wish you all the best next week.
🏁🚲🚲🚲🚲🏁
This is very intense and not what I expected. This should be a summer Oympic event.
Love to see team NZ. Hope they are all doing ok. Enjoying the bike content either way.
I love your passion project, Mike. The story telling is great. Your team has done a fantastic job. And... it's just weird enough that you've created a niche all of its own.
Much appreciated!
Just finished one tandem bike series (Kara and Nate) and on to this one now.
So exited for this🎉🎉
I didn't think I was going to like this video. I'm not much for bike races. But Mike surprised me. As he does so seamlessly, his videos are about people and connections. I should have known, though. I don't like car racing either and yet enjoyed those videos too.
Indeed, this is *Wirth* watching!
Oh no that crash looked painful! I hope they'll all be okay!
Regardless of the cliff hanger, I'm cheering on Teams Canada! 💪♥
14:07 I love this team’s method of water supply. It’s very handy yet ‘hands-free’.
Awesome job Mike
How exciting! I loved! Wow!🥰
So glad!
7:08 Stereotype of friendly Canadians lol
7:38 The punnery in this video >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Here and ready to live vicariously 😂
What could go wrong? 😂🤣 This will no doubt be quite exilerating!
6:17 The head tube/fork angle of Team NZ’s bike just LOOKS like the fork is ready to snap. After the crash someone mentions all the bikes were built the same but none of them have a fork angle so far forward immediately after exiting the tube angle like that.
Kara & Nate did this with a 3 person Bike Across America 🙂
Super cool. Hoping everyone on team New Zealand is ok , looking forward to watching more of the race. 👍🚵
This is so kool! Im also from nz !
Loved it great first episode.
Anyone else wondering how multi person bikes have become the next big TH-cam thing 🤣 between kara & nate and now Michael!
Thanks for your videos!!!
My pleasure!
You know Mike that Kara and Nate recently completed a ride across America on a Tridem, a three seater. They had numerous flats chain issues and a messed up rear chain wheel.
The TH-cam channel Kara and Nate just finished a cross country ride on a trandem bike. 8 people taking turns riding. The lead on the bike controlled everything.
Great Stuff Mike!!!!!!!
I think I know those people!!
We were fortunate to host the two teams in 2018 on the night before they crossed the Golden Gate Bridge. How do we learn about any next competition in 2025 0r 2026?
we love you Downie 😁
LOVE TEAM USA LOVE WIRTH ❤
This is going to be great!
USA! USA! USA! 🇺🇸
YEAH!!
Now you’re speaking our language
5:15 How the tandem bike works
Dude, i feel bad the NZ team. Such a bad luck on the bike but im glad they are ok.
MIke,
'Thanks ,great, so to speak, start.
Cheers,
Rik Spector
your neighbor in Ferndale, WA
Love this ! Keep going
I want to race this! or even be a neutral volunteer mechanic for a race!
A few suggestions:
The wheels and brakes need to be pro mtb downhiller quality.
The fork needs to be something from NitroCircus capable of withstanding massive jumps.
I made another comment about using dropper posts for safer starts/stops. I think that would help a lot.
----
I would love to read the rules of this race. I think there's room for major aerodynamic gains unless the rules disallow fairings. And if fairings are prohibited then I would locate water and fuel storage in such a way that it provides the best aerodynamic advantage.
loving this, GO TEAM GB, we gotta defend the crown.
Ouch! Team New Zealand 🇳🇿 that's gotta suck! And looks really painful, I hope nothing other than the front fork on the bike was broken 😮
Maybe needs some sturdier framing? These extra long machines seem quite precarious.
Good job so far though, it's very exciting
Better than The Amazing Race... Keep it up Mike! ❤
So when is episode 2 coming out.
Or did i miss it
A new episode every Saturday.
18:50 love him🤣
Glad the Kiwi's didnt get hurt too much. But a really entertaining video, anyway! Looking forward to more.
I'm trying to convince my husband to create a cayman islands team. Note neither of us own a bike or even ride occasionally 😂. I hope Team New Zealand is doing ok!
It would be cool to partner with a big bike brand who can build you guys a bike that can stand up to the load. Also I think the sport would benefit more from a total time win rather than a position based one due to the staggered starts. Time starts when you set off, stops when you either hit the end of a checkpoint/end of the race to determine how fast they went through. Maybe a bit more regulations in terms of spare parts, a team mechanic, and each team having their own support vehicle. Also a certified medic(s) for the race lol, one for either every team or one that stays in the middle of the pack that can get to any team pretty quickly. I think this could have some great potential for a big sport. Biking is already incredibly world wide. Would be cool to see this grow.
what speed are these bikes going? its hard to tell! sometimes it looks like theyre really cruising. good luck and safe travels to all teams!
Some of the bikes hit top speeds of 75km, but they are usually averaging 25-30km an hour !
