They always seem to put off solving crimes until it's no longer useful because everyone's died of old age. It happens a lot in Australia from crimes in the 70s and 80s. Even then it's only come out because someone spoke up, not because of police work.

Barbara, the mom, should not have spread it to others that she was going to report the real killers. But her 2 daughters were at a birthday party the night they came to abduct their mom. I doubt she would have given name's and info about such dangerous men + their guilt to her daughters who were so young. I don't see the daughters as being a threat to them + there was no need for them to be murdered.
