Band-Maid is a band that can "melt your face" with one song and then "melt your heart" with one of their beautiful rock ballads.

Jess, I wouldn't listen to anyone who tells you to do anything except plot your own journey through the music. You've already discovered the diversity of Band-Maid's music, and there's more to come. They always maintain a distinctive sound and they always leave you in awe. And they have a huge catalog of consistently great songs.

BAND-MAID are Genre Jumpers. So you can never judge them by a single song. They do it all! And this was from their 10th Anniversary Tour, so they have a lot of material to check out, everything from Soft Ballads and Japanese Traditional to Anime Theme Songs and real Show Stoppers like this one.

It’s hard to put Band-Maid in a box. They’re under the broad umbrella of hard rock, but there’s some pop punk, some stuff that’s a little metal, some stuff that’s kind of post hardcore, etc. They’re very creative, and can do anything well.
The choruses generally tone down the complexity and make their music more accessible. The lead vocalist is like the end of a funnel that keeps you opened up to accept the huge quantity of sound from the rest of the band.

When you look at those fingers moving so nimble and sure, what you're seeing is thousands of hours spent playing that instrument. MOST of us could do that (the straight performance part) if we dedicated as much of our lives to it as they have. But we won't, and they did, and that's what makes them special.

Simply said, this is a great rock song. Plus the lyrics are both brutal and funny. I've seen women laugh out loud about the lyrics. How many bass/lead guitar "duel/conversations" have you EVER seen in rock and roll?!

As a BAND-MAID fanatic, and have been since the beginning, a chronological order when listening to BM's music just might take the enjoyment out of the whole experience. Continue your own journey - pick and choose what feels right at the time. Same goes for all other artists in my opinion. Thank you so much, Juliett, for reacting to these 5 magnificent musicians whose individual characters and unpresuming presence as a whole can hook you in the end.

Love the reaction Princess JuiettJess. Maid energy is amazing, especially in their live Okyu-ji's (what the Maids call their live concerts, meaning "servings"). And as a special treat for attending a Okyu-ji, you often get these "conversations" between MISA, "The Barefoot Assassin", on bass and Kanami, "Mincho", on the lead guitar. The Maids are fantastic and have a very deep portfolio which is very diverse. Rock on!
BTW...If you don't like one of their songs, that would be your opinion and we should respect those opinions. Unfortunately, as a reactor, you may receive comments expressing their opinion of your reaction, but take it with a grain of salt. They deserve to express their opinion too, as it is part of being on a social media platform. Let those comments roll off and away like water off of a duck's back. Yes, context prior may help but the great music should draw you in and then you can have "ah ha" moments as you enjoy and discover along the journey. We Maidiacs have to remember we didn't know everything about the Maid from the first listen and as a Maidiac of about 5 years, I'm still learning stuff about our beloved Maids. PO!🕊 WORLD DOMINATION!🤘😆🤘

Great reaction and yes, they smashed the music genre mode and pretty much do what they want. I really like a lot of the Japanese all female bands and they all pretty much stick to one mode, but Band-Maid is so diverse it makes it hard to pin down, but that's part of the reason these ladies are at the top of my list of all time favorite bands and my list goes back to 50's and 60's rock bands where we had the Elvis, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Beatles, Led Zeppelin and more. Thanks for continuing to react to Band-Maid.

So you started with Endless Story, but know that with that it's sort of an outlier in their live show. It's elegant, grand and sentimental. But that might only be 10-15% of their live show. Not only is there a juxtaposition between the lovely dresses and stomping music, but they are also a bit comedic in personality, which makes them both hypnotic and endearing in a live setting, regardless of any language barrier.

Great reaction and discussion at then end. Band Maid is a kind of fusion band blending punk and hard rock with some metal elements and pop vocals. Different influences come to the top in different songs so it's hard to put the them in a category unless the category is simply Band Maid. Check out the Blooming MV for something very different from Hate. Still, all their songs sound like Band Maid.

5:45 - For context, BAND-MAID's lyrics are usually inspirational and motivational. However, this song's lyrics were inspired by the lead singer, Saiki (Sy-kee), who has a girlfriend with a cheating bf. So this song clearly expresses Saiki's disdain of said cheating bf. Also this performance was their recent November 2023 concert in Yokohama Arena to celebrate ten years, which is why the concert has a grand theme.
8:28 - BM dabbles in different subgenres of rock so there's something for everyone. But this also means you'll get different lists of songs but here's a general list to get you started:
    Domination (2020 live)
    Freedom (2020 live)
Don't You Tell Me (Official live)
    From Now On (MV)
    Blooming (MV)
Secret My Lips & Secret MAIKO Lips (MV)
    Daydreaming (MV)
    Real Existence (MV)
    Shambles (MV)
    Warning! (MV)

This band is versatile in their music. I haven't counted but they have about 120-130 songs in their repertoire and you will find at least one song that fits your mood. They're not afraid to try new things and one thing that's amazing about BM is that they don't have any weak songs, so you never get bored. Because there are so many and the songs are so different, the best thing to do is just pick one at random. Whatever you choose, you'll get to try a new flavour of this great band. Some of my favourites are on the YOLO single: YOLO, Unfair Game, Matchless GUM and an instrumental version of YOLO. If you continue down this pigeonhole (that's what we maidiacs call it) you will also find their alter ego, BAND-MAIKO. Their April Fool's joke to us fans. They managed to convince us that they had changed their style by dressing like geishas and using traditional instruments in their music... It was a success and they released a CD under their "new" name BAND-MAIKO. You must check it out. It's worth it. One thing is for sure. You have found THE gem with this band.

the solo trade off is so much of a hate filled argument between a Misa's Bass guitar male voice and Kanami's higher leads guitars female voice going at each other until it devolves into just swearing and the female still screaming as the male voice drifts away as he leaves

How does anyone do that? Practice 6 to 12 hours a day, and I'm sure that's what she has done. The ladies are maybe the hardest working band I've ever seen. So - the lyrics as far as I understand it are about a good friend of Saiki's (lead singer) whose boyfriend cheated on her during covid. Obviously, he is persona non grata now. Look forward to your next Band-Maid reaction. They are very much a musical addiction. And anyone that says us guys just like them because they're cute and wear maid outfits needs to watch this song. It's unfortunate you were getting grief about " Endless Story " - it's a difficult song to react to unless you know IN ADVANCE the significance of it to the fans and it's purpose as a sort of " thank you " to them - and as you said - why would you ? You're right - there's very little point in doing TRUE reactions to songs if you're going to research the hell out of them first . I'd simply ignore the naysayers - Band Maid are definitely worth exploring further - and I can't think off the top of my head of any more songs that you should be wary of - most of them are just bangers ! Enjoy !

Sometimes I am surprised that Kanami's fingers (lead guitarist) don't catch on fire with all the friction from her intense playing. And all the time the guitar and bass were duelling, the drummer was supporting them. Brilliant musicianship. Oh, and the singer wrote the stinging lyrics -- about a man she knew who had cheated on his partner ... a friend of the singer's. The singer was incensed and poured her anger into the song. A different kind of relationship song. Saiki (singer) is great at singing these lyrics -- you aren't left guessing her meaning.

What stands out about BM (is maybe unique, I honestly can't remember seeing anything like it before) is that there seems to be no ego-driven competitiveness between these five (talented) women, only genuine affection, a love of what they do together and a desire not to let the others down, so they all try their absolute best (with pretty stunning results).

Regarding the lyrics. This is a different song for BAND-MAID. They almost always write positive and supportive songs, e.g. about taking care of your moments of glory or whatever. This one is an angry song. The story behind this angry song is that the guitarist Kanami was in a bad mood and wrote a kind of angry song and asked if someone could make an angry text to it. The backup guitarist Miku wrote one and the vocalist Saiki wrote another one. The one Saiki wrote was much juicier and also had a connection to reality. One of her friend's man cheated on her friend during covid. And that text was then accepted. Sense morale: do not piss of Saiki, she will write a song about you. Urban legend says that the guy is now nowhere to be seen, not even in any ones dreams 😁

There is no right or wrong with your approach to reacting. There are some very good reactors that go in blind like you and others who prefer to do their “homework” with a band or song. Do what you are comfortable with, after all, it’s your channel, not those of us giving comments. For me, it doesn’t matter how it’s done as long as the reaction is enjoyable. If people have a problem with how you do things they can find many other channels, or make their own.

I don't think anyone suggested that you needed more familiarity before listening to Band Maid, just to Endless Story at that show because there was a very specific context to it. Don't worry about trying to slot Band Maid into a genre, they either have none, or they are the genre. Kanami rarely sets out to write rock songs or metal songs or pop-punk songs etc., she just writes songs and they become what they become through the process of the other members feeding back on them. They are Band Maid songs, further definition is superfluous.
