Act 3 can definitely be overwhelming on your first time getting in there and experiencing it, but I gotta say as a viewer - watching the chaos play out as you naturally come across and react to all these different set pieces and quest lines is 10/10 chef's kiss.
Going to one building (Sword Coast Couriers) and getting distracted and going to another building (Open Hand Temple) while some other things happens (towncrier screams something about murder of Stellmane, and Emperor reacts), and at the same time dozen other NPCs talks about their own thing. Classic Act3 and overall BG3 experience, and we're technically not in the city yet, which is indeed overwhelming. Honestly, after playing some time and some different runs with different morality, if not for origin characters run when you RP as them or Durge run, which is just sublime, chaotic neutral is probably the best for custom avatar and the game fully supports chaotic nonsense.
Straight up, I had no idea you could avoid going to prison without a fight here. the prison is a pain in the ass too! And that mindflayer! never seen him once in my two playthroughs!
1. Ironhand gnomes, if you saved them 2. Completely bypass the bridge, you have a billion spells to do so 3. Scrying eyes are indeed CCTV, if they never your crime (there is a witness system in the game), including you destroying them before they could witness any of your crimes lol, then you're an upstanding citizen according to Steel Watcher Also, I think, if you yourself didn't kill anyone ever in the game, ghoul Benji at the circus would actually be fine with you as well
2:35:00 As the narrator says in her hilarious outtakes - "You can't send us to horny jail, we live here. We have the keys." Save the squid ring achievement for the next playthrough :D
I think playing this at the same time as DA Veilguard is going to highlight the huge difference in quality, and I actually enjoyed DAV. This game just oozes class and will make most games look bad.
50:52 Eee! I *love* hollyphants! They are celestial elephants who often serve good deities. In the D&D adventure Descent Into Avernus, you can meet one named Lulu. (In my home game I missed one session and the party sold her to a hag, I reasoned that I was off gathering supplies while they did the deal and it was the source of some in-character drama xD we later stormed the hag’s place to get Lulu back once we were high enough level😂)
I think a general rule of thumb is that if they show up as yellow (neutral) the combat shouldn't be automatic and there might be a cut scene, as for the Orthon, there is a cut scene but you entered the combat by stealing (bad mapo!)
oh yes, very important dialogue skipped there, something that only could be learned there, how could the game allow using its mechanic? Unbelievable stuff
I think meeting flying elephant right after the circus episode, in which he got teleported to Jurassic Park (Chult) and then attacked by a clown named Dribbles, especially with fully embracing clown Mapo arc, and all this while Orin pops up here and there in the weirdest way possible to say absolute nonsense, really broke him for a moment. Absurdity overwhelm.
That was my exact reaction to meeting Valeria as well. 😂 I simply could not compute what I was seeing. I'm receiving a mission from fucking disgruntled Detective Dumbo. The voice was just too much. I needed a break. 🤣
Just a bug warning with the fancy returning spear - never initiate combat with a throw of that weapon. It'll fail to return. Always be in combat already before throwing it.
There was a scene in Emperor's reveal episode where he talked about Knights of the Shield and how he got acquainted with Stellmane, she was present in that scene, they were standing around the table, kind of looked like figuring out something. It is fascinating how Emperor thinks of allies and relationship, or at least speaks about it. 41:44 Damn, those Ironhand gnomes (yes, the ones you've saved) surely paved the way, but ofc Wyll wanted to talk... His talk is really interesting tho, basically describing classic authoritarian. While Kethric's complexity comes from personal tragedy, Gortash politics/doctrine exploration as Bane's chosen is very interesting and complex as well, albeit not that compelling on the personal level (not everyone can relate to authoritarian lol) 1:58:10 Just a bit subtle Elden Ring reference
This game just feels so much like a dnd campaign, with all it's acts and silly happenings. I laughed so much this episode, favorite must have been when you got to ask the woman if she thinks you look diseased, oh my god 😂
Mapo go buy Fireworks in real life and throw it without setting it on fire and see if explodes lol. Ofc u need to throw it in fire or place it and throw fire at it. Same with Barrels, they ll just break if u throw them without fire.
33:45 One of the voice acting directors on tiktok said they recorded their own kid expecting the child model to be younger. 😭All the child characters are voiced by adults except this one. hilarious.
It won't be out until sometime next year, probably in spring or even summer. stress test of patch 8 is gonna start in january and last a few months. he'll be long done with this playthrough.
orangoutan8727 lol I know that but don't you think it's possible that he can play it in he's free time? Or maybe a dark urge playthrough on the channel down the line?
there are already 46 subclasses for 12 classes in the game (with 11 races and 31 subraces), and he dabbled a bit into multiclassing, just a bit I would say, so 12 new subclasses won't make a difference on 1st playthrough, maybe down the line if he is ever willing to do Durge or other playthrough (and anyway, they release like in feb-march, maybe)
Regarding your relationship with the emperor… Mapo, do you remember your conversation with Withers at the end of act 2? “Consider this mortal… Do Illithids have souls?”🙃
1:36:13 I think you can tell if you'll be attacked right away or in theory there could be a conversation - NPCs will have a yellow outline instead of a red one.
Alternate Title: Serving The Grand Design, one peacfully laid to rest body at a time. :D 11:36 Many people at this point in the game buff STR with alchemy, Giant Strenght potions should be easier to craft now. But you need not be many people, if you rest more often cladding Karlach in a permanent STR buff is fine.
Yep, Bioware did Neverwinter Nights 1. Then just like the KOTOR situation, they handed off the second game to Obsidian. More classic RPGs to add to your impossibly long to-do list lol. Honestly the Neverwinter games are overlooked due to being released inbetween the period of BG2, KOTOR, and Mass Effect. Tough titles to be compared to from the same company.
I think NWN gets sometimes overlooked because that's where they first tried full 3d while still implementing DnD rules, which was perfected in KOTOR (not many know, but it is a DnD based game lol, no small part because of James Ohlen). Also, it was heavily criticized for being DnD-based game that wasn't really a party-based RPG, since you factually had no party, only 1 additional party-member who wasn't even a companion (again, memories may fail me). Basically, it was the first Bioware game that was going to do "something less cRPG-like, more action/cinematic-like", that got squeezed from the other side by the fact that game-designers at Bioware were literally TT/DnD nerds or even DnD designers themselves (again, James Ohlen). NWN main thing, as far as I recall ofc, was the campaign editor, which was innovative at that time, allowing players to create their own campaigns and dungeons, which were the main appeal of that game.
@nickrubin7312 you're totally right that it's a very different experience from what modern RPG players would be expecting and looking for. A lot of those issues were improved big time in NWN2, which also has the campaign editor (called modules). People remade Baldurs Gate in the NWN2 engine for example - there are a lot of community modules that are massive in scope.
Don't know how you see at using mods, but I had the same problem with who to bring because I loved them all, so I use the Party Limit Begone mod. So I never have to choose haha 😆 I also use a difficulty mod to balance it up.
Gortash was pretty handsome but being a Chosen Banite will do that to ya Also though of course they're different, his voice acting always gives me the same scratch that Reaver's (fable) does
Mapocolops, I'm curious with your conversation with the emperor why you chose to comfort him rather than expose him? 🤔 usually if a player isn't happy with the emperor they will Rebell against him.
One thing I don't understand about the Emperor is why he sees himself as the person he was before ceremorphosis, but no other mind flayer seems to. The newborn from this episode refers to the human as his host. Oluum seemed to see himself as always having been a mindflayer. Why does this one guy seem to be different? Is he different, or is it a persona he's putting on, or some kind of coping mechanism?
>One thing I don't understand about the Emperor is why he sees himself We don't know how he sees himself. We know how he presents himself to a player or other characters depending on the situation he is in and his motivation, which we don't fully know at any given moment, especially early on. there are other things to discuss about mindflayers and how they see themselves and who they were prior to being mindflayer, but that would be a spoiler
Those are some mighty interesting questions. I was wondering similarly. A comment about mindflayers from the aftermath of the Myrkul fight, before the Emperor reveal, is also returning to mind
don't think so, even tho might look similar, especially in helmet, all origins have unique design that isn't CC made (and all companions, except Halsin ofc, that one does have actual repeat in the game lol)
The Dragonborn were the last race added, they weren't even playable in the early access. So they got dumped in act 3 sence that was also the last part made
I love how there's so much stuff to do and we're not even within the main city yet 😂
Welcome to Act3….
2:41:49 Ending on Mapocolops’ naked statue from behind while the real Mapocolops does the exact pose in front of it in frame is perfect. XD
Having Mapo become a literal power clown both in appearance and power is hilarious.
Yea the way mapo breezes through makes me realize how bad i was at this game lol

I have to say, it took me for ever to find all the bits of Dribbles the clown.. 🤣
I like this playthrough very much. 😄
Straight up, I had no idea you could avoid going to prison without a fight here. the prison is a pain in the ass too!
And that mindflayer! never seen him once in my two playthroughs!
If you successfully kill the eyes in stealth the steel watch actually offers to bring you to gortash's coronation instead
1. Ironhand gnomes, if you saved them
2. Completely bypass the bridge, you have a billion spells to do so
3. Scrying eyes are indeed CCTV, if they never your crime (there is a witness system in the game), including you destroying them before they could witness any of your crimes lol, then you're an upstanding citizen according to Steel Watcher

that’s MY handsome younger man with a quick easy smile!
Younger than some trees for sure

I mean, there are plenty of exclusions to this rule, doppelgangers under the temple being one
it still most likely, but the rule is not solid
2:13:15 One day, Mapo will stop accidentally skipping dialogue by always sneaking. This is not that day
classic 😂 he seriously should be banned from sneaking, it's a drug at this point
oh yes, very important dialogue skipped there, something that only could be learned there, how could the game allow using its mechanic? Unbelievable stuff
@nickrubin7312 eh it's not that important. You get the details later.

I found that out trying to cheese Grym in honor mode from the ledge with a bound weapon. “Bound” my a** lol.
Imagine real life, you chuck a box of fireworks at someone what would happen? They're not just going to spontaneously combust because you threw them.

The turns have tabled for sure in this one. What a grand adventure we have had. 🦃
The fireworks boxes have the same description as individual fireworks, but work differently. They explode when hit with fire
