I LOVE and MISS this type of gospel- raised, upbeat improvisational music. Growing up in the Baptist church, we called it "traveling" or collection-plate music. It was usually played during the Offertory or a special collection on Anniversaries.
Thanks Be to God for this special Music.
Eric Thomas is one of the coldest B3 specialist in the Chi for y'all young bucks take notes and learn some real church music from him like I've done over the years.
That song makes for really goooood "offering" walking music. It has a happy positive tone (and rhythm) about it.
'Bout time! Finally, some sho'nuff Chicago playing. And by none else than the legandary Eric Thomas. The man is an institution @ Fellowship, First Deliverance, and now he is pastoring. We worry about harmony so much that we forget that the real saints feel the rhythm of the organ. Thats what we got here. Yalsah!
I pastor COGIC in the pacific NorthWest and THIS is what I grew up on. Chicago style is what I patterned my own style after. I love it. The old folks called it "deliverance style"....great licks
Wow! It is amazing to see this clip. Could you imagine being a service with these two playing together, wow.
Had to come back and listen to this greatness. Never gets old...just gets better
They are PLAYIN!!!! One is not over powering the other. They are complimenting each other's talent. Play on my brothers.
This is one of my favorite clips. Chicago just can't be beat for their Gospel flavor.
Its nice to see the genuine smiles of approval. That's churchin!
I'm sorry saints, but I just took a youtube tour of some great organists. What a mighty awesome God we serve. Having enjoyed all the great contemporary artists, this is where it's at. This is Chech! Right here. Jesus Is the Light. Yalsah! (With my right hand up)
Yall betta play that!
Allll right!
Go head on! Don't hurt nothing.....take ya time....work it on out! Yes!
OMG!!! PLAY PASTOR THOMAS!!! Whew! This just took me back to the days when he was over the young adult choir at Greater Harvest, playing over at Fellowship and Sunday night service that didn't let out until after 10 pm!
First Church of Deliverance set the tone for the midwest back in the 50s and 60s through its 11 PM Sunday radio broacast, featuring its 250 voice choir. The broadcast could be heard thoughout the midwest, parts of the east coast, parts of the south and eastern Canada. Greater Harvest was and is a sister church to !st Church. Rev. Thomas used to be an organist at 1st Church. 1st Church is not what it used to be, but is still a great place to worship and praise God.
This music is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
Could listen to this all day!!! Love it!
thats what we need to teach young brothers like me well playin musicians
If I could play like this I would do nothing else with my life. It's videos like this that make youtube one of the greatest sources for music ever!!!!

Pastor Eric Thomas
I love it! You all have made me get up and cut a step!!
All Right Now...bring it back. Anybody have a full blown Orchestra in the Churches anymore? Train some new talent and make Psalm 150 come to life.😇
Two fantastic players!
Super great organists on the infamous Hammond organ!
Wow
@Denvermorgan2000 If you thinkk, the Hammond can be used in EVERY Genre. Gospel, Blues, Rock, Jazz, Pop, and even Classical.
@Pianoman42100 It looks like there in a store testing the instruments before buying them.
Sick on so many levels WOW!

I wanna go to church with music like this! where can i find churches like this?
this sounds sanctified remimnds me of my old store front church i use 2 go to
YES LORD
Gospel music is never static and unchanging. Many young people do something and think they made it up. Some older musicians been monsters on their instrument for years. The point is, younger musicians need the seasoning from QUALITY older musicians. Not just OLDER musicians. Just because you're old don't mean you know anything helpful. Anointed, seasoned ministers should train the younger.
Train up A child n a way they should go...older cats r not doin this with younger musicsions now because younger guys r earning wrong.....this is how it should be..younger cats should b up under people who r more seasoned to get the skillz they need ... N this case it's dat ole time church feel...which most younger cats really need....love this video..playing like that will b passed down generation to generation....
now thats church! yes suuuhhhhh!
wats the name of that young guy on the organ??
Mean bass
I cannot speak for 'other' Methodist Churches, but where I pastor we are growing--with young people!! The music is 'off da chain' and we're expanding the youth ministry of my parish. However, my concern and focus as pastor is on the teaching and preaching ministry. Worship becomes more meaningful when we are informed more about the God we worship and why we worship. The preached Word is the zenith of the Worship Experience. Instead of being mean, try being nice before making rude comments
@Denvermorgan2000 The original synthesizer!
yessuh!!!!!!!!
that was hot
Anyone know what this song is?
4 Organs - you forgot the one in the back!
it is there as you listen to them playing...the one who posts the song had it there...here it is...i copied and pasted: [If this performance doesn't make you want to "Shout" you had better check your pulse!! Mathew Jones and Elder Eric Thomas show why Greater Harvest is one of the most dynamic churches in Chicago.] Regarding using the term WORD over hand...you missed the point still. I mean actual hands for ordaining into the priesthood. A line of succession from Paul to ME.
Please sir, read the box at top right where the poster of this video said 'it is b/c of these two organists that this church is the most dynamic church in Chicago. My point is that the preached word be the reason why churches be dynamic not the music-relax, not meant to hurt or insult anyone-just adding my 2 cents...whew...btw, I am ordained and historically speaking, it is as legitimate as one can get-through a line of succession my ordination can be traced to the Apostle Paul...hand to hand.
i can honestly say chicago detroit well basically the whole midwest share alot of similarities.
LOL.... GO'HEAD!!!!!!
The other organist looks like Jason Tyson.
It's Matt Jones.
What church just has 3 Hammond's lined up like that...geeeeeez
Why in the world do they have so many organs?!?!?
Play Pastor
What about the Word of God...I thought the Preached Word was more important that music? If the music makes the church in and of itself then we live in sad times as it relates to the church and its divine message to the world.
No hate, just an observation.
Why does on look like a minister and the other a street guy?

it’s baal; it’s baal;
It’s not God.
It’s the spirit of the world.
Wherein in time past ye walked according
to the course of this world, according to
the prince of the power of the air, the spirit
that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Ephesians 2:2
In time past - are ye continuing to
walk according to the course of this world..?
you may say, I go to church. Well the place
that you call a church is following - the course of
this world.
The course of this world -
And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath;
I am from above: ye are of this world;
I am not of this world.
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall
die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I
am he, ye shall die in your sins.
John 8:23,24
