I am having trouble with the parts of James' scripture that condemn people who are wealthy. Wealth can be a powerful tool for God, if used appropriately. One can fund ministries, shelters for the homeless, feed the poor, and provide for the needs of others who cannot for themselves, like giving to St Jude hospital. It is much better to be rich than poor in this world, and James seems to paint an evil picture of those who have wealth. I'm a bit frustrated with those parts of his letter.
Money changes people. Jesus said "Matthew 19:24 King James Version 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Hi Bryan, I absolutely agree with your submission. However, I don’t think the wealth of the rich is the real issue James’ letter addressed. He mentioned how the rich withheld the wages of their workers, how they stored up things for themselves alone, how they care about having good times for themselves alone leaving their workers to die in needs. These are the exact opposite of what you tagged as ‘powerful tool for God’. The letter was actually condemning the selfishness of the rich and calling their attention to what they ought to do with their wealth. God bless you.
