The saddest part about this is that there’s no way for Star to win the dual. If you don’t shoot him immediately and get shot yourself, the bullet just does nothing and Clover kills him anyways. Despite what he said, he didn’t almost win. He wasn’t even close.

I love the fact that the game straight up tells you in huge letters "DRAW" throughout the pacing sequence, as if laughing at you for having no morals and being entirely unconcerned for rules, enough to likely shoot before it's fair. Now, any sensible player wouldn't take the bait and just dual the guy for dual's sake...unless they got understandably trigger-happy at the giant, red button.
I just saw draw and shot tbh, still was shocked because "Oh gosh that was before everything was set", I don't even know if they actually do 10 paces, like 10 "stepping" frames while the characters are moving or what do they do
the second starlo said "10 paces." my mind just thought "SHOOT HIM NOW WHILE HE DOESNT SUSPECT A THING" as i was mashing Z to shoot the second the game gave me the chance, only to laugh as i realize the game actually gave me the option to shoot before it was technically allowed. then i regretted it after realizing Starlo is one of my favorite characters, and regretted it even more the second Ceroba wanted to have a well intentioned, thought out, detailed discussion with me on why murder is bad.

I love how in pacifist route Starlo acting unfair towards his friends and just leave them to have fun with Clover, but in genocide it's Clover acting unfair and can shot him back. Also in pacifist fight Starlo uses lasso and says that it's unfair cuz good sheriff must fight properly. In genocide its exactly what he's doing
I've not actually played the pacifist or neutral routes yet. Somehow, not knowing these characters' stories and just having a few contextual clues (like finding the bedroom of Starlo afterwards and seeing all of his obvious aspirations) made my blood run cold. At least with Undertale you can distance yourself through the cartoonish villainy of your actions (same in Snowgrave Deltarune; I find it kind of hard to take the story seriously when you're seemingly just messing with Noelle for no reason). In Undertale Yellow, it's just you watching brave people die trying to stop you as you deliver justice that isn't justice. Clover doesn't believe what he's doing is wrong; he's just following horribly wrong logic, and good people die trying to put a stop to it. People killing people for causes they think are just but aren't. Isn't that a story for the ages?
I was a lot more tense during this duel with starlo because i thought he would shoot me with and actual gun and kill me instantly if i didnt draw fast enough. To realize later that he didnt even bring a real gun and didnt stand a chance to begin with made me feel even worse.

@@Grundrisse clover isn't "immune" to the bullet. if you let Starlo hit you then the bullet bounces off and Starlo says that he can't do it for real, and that he thanks you for letting him feel cool for a moment. this implies that he shot you with the BB gun as it's the only other non-lethal weapon we see, and we know it isn't lethal as Starlo himself got shot with one in the pacifist run. It's not that he wasn't close at all, it's that he didn't have the motive in him to kill you. If you really were slow enough and he did find it in him to use his revolver instead of the BB gun then Starlo would actually have almost won/won for real but with flowey on your side, it's not like THAT matters :p

First time I fought Ceroba here (and got my max HP absolutely handed to me), I shot Starlo unfairly. After that, I both wanted to equip different ammo and wanted to see what would happen if Clover lost. The second attempt was my victory (probably because I was on easy mode and I was able to avoid the red attacks much more effectively, but I'd like to say it was because I did the dual fairly.)
Man, it would be cooler and make even more sense if we lose the dual, we do get shooted by his real bullet but sruvive(human is stronk) and clover shoot starlo, and the fight with ceroba started with your hp getting lowered already [depends on your DF (starlo AT is 12)]
