This was excellent, thank you. I feel i have learned a lot more about Pamela Colman Smith than I previously knew. Her "otherness" so crucial.

She has been such an influence on all kinds of art from comics to graffiti..you can see the shift after the tarot got more popular in the 70s

There are 3 or 4 lovely gouache paintings that Colman Smith did of her cousin William Gillette on display in the art gallery of Gillette Castle at Gillette Castle State Park in Haddam, CT. It's well worth a visit there. Thanks you for the wonderful talk on Colman Smith!!

"The parallel between antifeminism and race prejudice is striking. The same underlying motives appear to be at work, namely fear, jealousy, feelings of insecurity, fear of economic competition, guilt feelings, and the like. Many of the leaders of the feminist movement in the nineteenth-century United States clearly understood the similarity of the motives at work in antifeminism and race discrimination and associated themselves with the anti slavery movement."
    Ashley Montagu
"The underlying, primary psychic reality is so inconceivably complex that it can be grasped only at the farthest reach of intuition, and then but very dimly. That is why it needs symbols."
    C.G. Jung
