To be honest, even during the shortage I was able to get blank Suica and Icoca on the JR East station without any problem. I got Suica in the Narita Airport and Icoca in Kyoto station
I finally moved to tokyo a few days ago after saying japan will never open since 2020 😅 since i lived in Korea I went back to america for a year but now I'm living in japan and its definitely different being a touriat then a resident
When did you record this? My friend was in Tokyo on holiday 4 days ago, and couldn't get a suica card, there were signs up in the stations saying they were not available
Great video. You mentioned that when you go to purchase your suica card, you need to add details like dob and phone number, with the phone number, does if have to be a Japanese number or can you add in your own cell phone number from your respective country? I;ll be in Japan in a a couple of weeks and i just want to be prepared as much as i can before i land in Narita. Thanks again!
I saw a comment on another video saying that they had called one of the stations. The answer was that it has to be a number that can be contacted within Japan. So my interpretation is that a PH number won’t work. The comment added that you can skip adding a phone no. but they won’t be able to contact you if the card is lost.
Welcome Suica is beautifully designed and makes a great souvenir! I can't believe it's been 2.5 years ! You guys helped us get all the info during lockdown and after ! Thanks Alex and Matilda, and looking forward to many more vids , and to see the new background !!
Good luck on the move! Did you have to enter a pin when getting your welcome suica with a credit card? I think most Credit Cards in the US still don’t do pins so I am wondering if it’s still unfeasible to do credit card transactions at ticket machines. Although to be honest online ticket purchases followed by ticket collection at vending machines have made this a little easier now.
Note on the Suica IC cards, they only expire after 10 years of not being used or topped up. I have the Hokkaido version (kitica) from 2005 and it still works just fine
Great video! Have already the Kansai One Pass and Icoca. Thinking of getting one, but maybe two are enough. One for daily use and the second if counting special purchases, select for only travel expense or lending friends. All the best wishes for moving. Maybe I can bring some housewarming present next time.
Good luck with the move Harb! Moving is stressful under the best of circumstances, so take it easy, rest plenty and enjoy your new home. To all visitors to Japan: please take Harb's advice and get an IC card as soon as you land. Their usefulness is not limited to transportation. You can use them at vending machines, some restaurants, even some department stores accept them in lieu of cash! Plus, they make for great souvernirs and are valid up to 10 years (some models at least)! I'm using mine on my return trip next year. Could you maybe do a video breaking down the new ESTA entry requirements for Visa-exempt countries? I read it's getting implemented pretty soon, or is already. Cheers!

I’m in Japan now using a welcome suica
Unfortunately the existance of pasmo and suica is still threatened, more and more people use mobile phones as replacements for them these days.
Like grabbing the physical IC, HJJ is the way to do it.

Question: Can use my Philippine number twhen getting a Suica card? Thanks!

9:08 congrats :) 🎉
Can you explain how to obtain a child’s suica? My son is under 13 and can’t get a suica on his phone.
Only children 12 and under are eligible for child Suica. Just buy a child one at the airport on arrival. You will need to show passports.
My boi, you bring hope to the great nation of Japon!
For named Suica you need a japanese number to register?
Glad to know that Suica card can now be purchased at narita airport. Thank you so much for this content.

Good video as always and it was nice meeting you at Haneda. Good luck to you on your future endeavors.
Question is the sucia card for 10 years
No, but if you don't use it after 10 years, it gets deactivated.
