Have not been explained better on TH-cam. I was looking for a video like that for a while now. Thanks a lot. Dave, keep up those kind of videos, please.
I'm amazed at how clearly and concisely Dave explained this. Well spoken without a lot of "fluff". Looking forward to making the slow in / fast out adjustment.
Dave, this video instantly improved my putting consistency. When you mentioned how McBeth pulls back and then waits a second or so before putting I said to myself, if one of the best putters in the world does that why wouldn't I try it? I've always drawn back and immediately fired. By drawing back and then waiting I think it has allowed me to make sure my aim is correct and it gave me an immediately noticeable improvement. Thanks man!
It's so true, but really hard to implement because we're accustomed to moving our bodies when throwing. So when you force yourself to literally stop for a beat, your brain immediately asks, "BUT FOR HOW LONG!?" If you can maintain positive thoughts and focus in that moment, I agree 100% that it can produce results. But I'd be interested to watch people try, because I think it's way harder than it sounds!
Spin putting is almost essential if you live in a windy state (Texas, Kansas, Colorado). I began making so many more putts when I developed a hybrid style of putting. Great video and instruction !
Ive watched a lot of videos on putting, but I believe this is probably the best and simplest one yet! Thanks for explaining the difference between the two spin and push putting.
To be fair, paul has changed his putting style a couple times over the years but I still see the point you're trying to emphasize. Awesome video and awesome explanation between the two styles!
I've discovered that explaining this to new people to the sport is near impossible. Dave has always had a knack for educating. Hope you are well, Dave.
Dave- Thank you! Based on your great TH-cam content I got turned onto infinite discs. Started using them exclusively during COVID as local supply dried up. Great source, and delivery was 2 days, this week. I’m not plugging them for a fee or anything, but thanking you for representing a product that reflects positively on you. You’re a true champ!
Dave does a good job of explaining the general motions of the putting types but a terrible job of describing McBeths style. Contrary to what he says Paul does not come "straight in". Paul drops his hand/arm quite a bit and putts from his left hip - a bit across his body. Paul did not "break the mold" because of his specific style. He practiced a lot and has incredible muscle memory, and more importantly, an amazing head game, the key to putting. The Push>Spin style is a spectrum. Paul for sure falls far on the spin side but not as much as Eagle, Simon, And more recently Tristan Tanner. Tanner may be the furthest to the spin side of the spectrum and is incredible. Fun to watch.
I have a lot of respect for Dave as a player, but in this video he clearly has no idea what he's talking in describing McBeth's putting style. Has he never seen him putt before???
When asked on the "ask Paul McBeth" thread on the disc golf review forum: "What motion or act would you liken your putting stroke to?" His answer: "Bowling, but just the opposite side of my right leg."
Nate Sexton is as close of a player to both as possible. He spins from distance, and pushes close or edge of circle. He has some great examples of this just this season alone.
Thanks for this video! I watched it last night then went and practiced today, and my putting improved immensely. The tips on slow draw back and moving the arm down to up on a push putt helped the most. I'm trying the spin putt for longer distances, but no consistency there just yet :)
This is the best video explaining these two putting styles, comparing and contrasting them to each other. I've seen on TH-cam. I have a better understanding of these two putting styles. Thank you, David!
Good logical advice! New subscriber here. Amazing that I spent so many years playing disc golf without even thinking much about these techniques. Trial and error only goes so far.
I tried to follow his form and line up Left hip to the target, for me, helps me be consistent whether a straddle stance or standard athletic/track stance
Another is the old Dave Feldbeurg putt from the 2000's sometime he used a Straddle putt for shorter stuff and a Ken Climo type stance push putt for longer putts.
I’m sittin’ here in quarantine, and then David putts this crazy idea in my mind to learn both putts... and then I think for a minute. And then I’m like: “Oh shoot... this could really help my game.”
Hey Dave Thanks for info ......went and got inspired worked on my straddle type push putt from circles edge untill I hit all 10 putters only took 3 tries lol. Thanks again bro.
I’d suggest watching pros like simon/eagle/paul for spin (spush even!) puttd and then watching Ken/others I can’t think of for push (more likely pitch putts)
Kyle Robbins agreed. I think Dave knows that Paul technically spins and as he watches Paul he is negating the entire movement pattern. Paul does drop to his hip but where begins the actually momentum and release doesn’t begin until he’s come off his a thigh moving back up towards release. I’m not sure why Dave doesn’t see this but I think he would after reading these comments and taking a second look. But the integrity of Paul’s putt is all related to the spin and belly/body “part” of a spin put, but exaggerates the pull back down to his hip.
Maxwell Crowe He is so smooth with that motion. I still don’t know how he perfected that. Sometimes it looks like he’s just going to toss the disc straight up in the air. But somehow it takes off straight forward, and glides perfectly straight and level 60 feet into the basket. I have a hard time getting that nice of a flight by spinning it from my chest, let alone what he does. When I try McBeth’s motion, the putter moves toward the basket, but I can’t get it to fly, it’s fluttering and usually fades left of the basket. My hat is off to him.
Have not been explained better on TH-cam. I was looking for a video like that for a while now. Thanks a lot. Dave, keep up those kind of videos, please.
I agree, this was explained very well. some basics with a little bit of insight to how the pros play. Love it!
I'm amazed at how clearly and concisely Dave explained this. Well spoken without a lot of "fluff". Looking forward to making the slow in / fast out adjustment.

Here in AZ its 20 mph one day and 4mph the next day, very inconsistent wind can make it hard to predict.
Here in Indiana, so glad they put up walls around all the courses so there is no wind. 😂
A bell just went off. Thanks so much. 50 years of disc golf and I finally learned how to practice putting correctly.
Ive watched a lot of videos on putting, but I believe this is probably the best and simplest one yet! Thanks for explaining the difference between the two spin and push putting.
Can’t believe that video was 5 minutes. I love watching clinics as much as the next golfer but I do love this short comprehensive tutorial
Hell yea Dave, Dave Greenwell had me strive to learn both well. Thankful for that push from my beginnings in this sport
This has trounced the Philo putting clinic I saw, only because you explained the same concept much more quickly. Thanks!
Dave is the best teacher, and a damn good disc golfer reigning Masters World Champ
Great explanation. In fact one of the best explanations I have ever seen about these two styles.
To be fair, paul has changed his putting style a couple times over the years but I still see the point you're trying to emphasize.
Awesome video and awesome explanation between the two styles!
That was the best break down I have heard! Thank you sir for the knowledge!
I've discovered that explaining this to new people to the sport is near impossible. Dave has always had a knack for educating. Hope you are well, Dave.

He is not wrong about learning both!!
Helps tremendously when weather changes or the shot calls for something specific
Dave is clutch too. Always appreciated him hitting huge putts when needed.
Great instructional video! Thanks. BEST PUTTING VID
Best, most intuitive explanation I have seen. Thanks
Dave, two words for you.... You rock!! Love watching your videos, they have helped me greatly and I pass them on to others. Thank you!
Simple. To the point. Helpful. Thanks.
Nate sexton is one of the few push putters who spin outside circle or into a headwind. 🤓. Awesome video. Wish it was out Feb 2017 when I started lol
Ah, your just getting started.
Audio is excellent!! Professional player + professional AV quality = Subscribers + Fans

Yes, Paul does bring his disc across his body to his left leg/hip. Not into his body on a straight line.
I have a lot of respect for Dave as a player, but in this video he clearly has no idea what he's talking in describing McBeth's putting style. Has he never seen him putt before???
When asked on the "ask Paul McBeth" thread on the disc golf review forum:

His answer: "Bowling, but just the opposite side of my right leg."
oskari or vaino are true spin putters
IMHO, Dave was talking about breaking the mold of the push putting style of 13 time worlld champ Ken Climo.
This man is absolutely wonderful.
Thank you! I've been doing spin putts but will start practicing push putting
great info! Dave explains better than almost anyone.
David Feldberg is like my hero.
Slow in! Slow to fast going out! That's what you told me, Dave. And it works.
Nate Sexton is as close of a player to both as possible. He spins from distance, and pushes close or edge of circle. He has some great examples of this just this season alone.
Dave is the Yoda of disc golf.
good stuff. I never thought about the placement of the thumb on a spin putt.
Dropping a lot of knowledge. Thanks Dave
Dave Felberg the master.
You nailed it!! Thanks! So many answers!
Thanks for this video! I watched it last night then went and practiced today, and my putting improved immensely. The tips on slow draw back and moving the arm down to up on a push putt helped the most. I'm trying the spin putt for longer distances, but no consistency there just yet :)
Great video and explanation. Excited to try it out tomorrow.
Great instructional video, extremely helpful.

I keep going back and forth so came for some clarity. Thanks!
Definitely some good nuggets in this clip. I hope they marinate my brain tonight so I can practice tomorrow.
Thanks for this video! Made me realize I’m kind of stuck in weird middle ground between the two styles, which makes me very inconsistent.
right? my dumbass out here doing straddle push puts with a spin. lmao
Dave is a gosh dang treasure
Thanks Dave!
Paul actually does go down to his opposite hip though instead of coming into the middle of his torso
It's a little bit of both styles
@@rayackerman5705 yep
I tried to follow his form and line up Left hip to the target, for me, helps me be consistent whether a straddle stance or standard athletic/track stance
I think Feldburg was exaggerating his point of straight back and through, McBeth is relatively straight back compared to most
It depends on the distance. You will notice the differences in his approach from the different distances.
best putting vid yet on YT!
For straddling, I like to try to emulate Barry Schultz, or Nikko Locastro, as they are a couple of the best.
Another is the old Dave Feldbeurg putt from the 2000's sometime he used a Straddle putt for shorter stuff and a Ken Climo type stance push putt for longer putts.
Kevin Jones too
I'm gonna try this out later today. Thanks.
I find your explanations so helpful - thanks
Excellent explanation. Thank you!
Great vid! really specified the mechanics of each. Good information!
Very interesting points, thanks
Very, very good video. Well done.
I’m sittin’ here in quarantine, and then David putts this crazy idea in my mind to learn both putts... and then I think for a minute. And then I’m like: “Oh shoot... this could really help my game.”
that is wild dude
Dave really is the best teacher in disc golf
Concise. Thank you!
I got tired of spit outs putting on old baskets (Mach III mainly) so I adapted to push putt inside of 25ft for a few years now.
excellent explanations and demo!! thank you sir!!
Great explanation, very helpful, I’ve only been watching pro dg for a couple months, I’m gonna have to rewatch some of them.
Great video, thank you, sir.
Thank you!!! Such a great explanation.
Great explanation!
Thanks again. Eye opener vid
So helpful! Nice video, thanks for the tips Dave!
Ooooh I’m excited to take this info out to the course. Thanks man :)
For the first time I feel like I understand the difference between those two kinds of putts and I was able to apply it immediately in windy conditions
This information simply amazing! Finally, I "get it"!! Thank you so much.
I do a mixture, I bring down and then I spin.
Same!
I just watched a Nate Sexton video, where he admitted that just about everybody does some sort of “spush” putt. Elements of both.
THANK YOU DAVID 🤘🏼
Well explained good information, thank you!
Awesome video from a Legend!!
Thx Dave!!
Awesome, thanks infinite and Dave!
Great content and thank you!
Great Coverage, thank you for sharing, I’m more confident with the education you shared🤘🏼
Dave's got some rounds in with Paul, His word is Gold to me.
Pretty much everything he says is right. Except for how he says paul putt. Paul brings his hand down by his hip
Thank you ! Very clear info.
Great video, Dave! Thanks!
For me the spin putt is way more satisfying, I'm out there to have fun after all. The slow motion come in is a great tip
Great tips! Really appreciate the help!
I missed Daves University of Oregon disc golf class by one year damn it.
I did it for 3 terms. It was awesome!
Hey Dave Thanks for info ......went and got inspired worked on my straddle type push putt from circles edge untill I hit all 10 putters only took 3 tries lol.
Thanks again bro.
Great tips. Man that was solid!
Priceless!
Best teacher in disc golf.
Cheers from Michigan
Great tips! Thanks!
I’d suggest watching pros like simon/eagle/paul for spin (spush even!) puttd and then watching Ken/others I can’t think of for push (more likely pitch putts)
Good info thanks for sharing brother!!!
Thanks for the video
Thank you, Great tips
My friend did work for Paul Macbeth and got some discs from him
Thank you 👍
Great stuff
Here I come thank you for the advice.
The new age kids :D Paul and Ricky are the best putters of all time, inside and outside the circle, and they both break their wrists.
Ricky definitely does not
I also thought McBeast was a spush putter, so he had the best of both worlds.
Doesn’t Paul push putt? His disc drops to his opposite thigh. Not into his belly. Dave’s tips are great. Just confused.
Kyle Robbins agreed. I think Dave knows that Paul technically spins and as he watches Paul he is negating the entire movement pattern. Paul does drop to his hip but where begins the actually momentum and release doesn’t begin until he’s come off his a thigh moving back up towards release.
