Hi Adanna, thanks for sharing this information. I recently started my channel where I discuss similar tips for acing the GRE along with grad school prep as I got 3 fully funded scholarships to school in the US. Found you online when searching for other creators in this field!
My GRE story: I took the test in January 2019 three months short of my 71st birthday. I am in a mastere's program in English literature and at the thesis stage right now. I don't think a doctorate is plausible at this point but an MFA in writing might be. I received a fee reduction and paid in January 2018 so I knew I had to finally take the test or pay again. My issue was not how to score high enough but how not to score too high. It is good to be above the minimum but a score which is inordinately high might also raise question. Everybody loves strivers. No one loves a bum. I did no prep whatsoever except for one math problem I looked at months earlier. I did try to get my head together and get a good night's sleep. Also to avoid drinking too much liquid (senior citizen, use your imagination). The head together part worked out pretty good. The good night's sleep part not so well. But a couple of swigs of sugar free Rock Star took care of that. I immediately saw that the verbal part was immensely easy. Because I did not want to score too high, I did not go back to check the answers I was not sure of. The quantitative part was, well, not exactly hard, but it required a lot of work, and I just kept on working and working on it. End result: V 162, Q153, Analytical writing 4. Well, it would call that a designer result for my purposes. According to my research, about at the median for graduate admittees in my subject at the Ivy League, not that the Ivy's are on my radar in the event I go on to another program.. The thing I would do different if I knew was do some prep for the analytical writing. A 4 is the gate for PhD programs at research universities but I would have liked to have do better and could have if went in knowing what was expected. My adivce, as the voice of experience, is this. Prep for the analytical writing, it will help if you know what they expect. Do not expect prep to increase your score any huge amount, but it if your situation is marginal for the program you want to apply to, getting noticeably above the minimum I am sure will help. Another thought I have is that it is better to have the Q and V scores closer together. Most people know which one they are going to do better on. What they should concentrate on is raising the one they are weaker in. I took the the GRE the first time in 1972, three times in the 1980's, again in the early 1990's and again this year. Across almost 50 years of experience, my scores have been pretty consistent. What I did find though is that the best prep might be to take the test and then take it again. My scores went up and up a up in the three tests in the 1980's. Converted to the old 200-800 scale, my V score this year was the lowest I have ever gotten, and the Q score about the same as the first time I took the test. With prep and taking it again I would probably do a lot better. But I don't need it. Math is hard, and I'm not going to do any unless I have to.

Hi Adanna when you said that you reported your scores at the test center right after you finished the exam, how many schools are you allowed to select when reporting schools that way? Also, I am assuming that the schools will be seeing your score at or around the same time you'll see them, so you should only do that if you are confident you did well right?
i took the practice test and i got a 292. I was confused i spent 2 months studying the manhattan prep and ets guides. 255 bucks because i had to change the schedule.
Monica, I'm talking about the school codes that you use to report your score. After you've taken your exam you can leave the center and dinyiur reporting at home, but it's like 27 dollars per school. When I took the gre, I had the option to report it to the schools directly at the test center for free. This was o my possible if I didn't leave the center first.
Monica, as you are considering your respective schools and MA programs there should be a code they want you to use somewhere in their literature to send your GRE scores directly to them for your grad application.
Hello, i am currently finishing off my last year to complete my bachelor's degree and i am already planning on taking the GRE soon. However, i dont know where and how to start. I bought the book 5lb manhattan. I try scanning through som math problems and they just seem very confusing. Do i just go based on the book? Or do i go back to learning the basics of math? I herd that the GRE is not much about focusing on getting the right answer but rather to how the person "thinks" . Any advice?
+Kyndall Echols I just studied what was in the book. It's not really a matter of knowing what words to study as opposed to learning how words are formed so learning the root words learning the root language like all of that encompasses how you're able to break the word down and know exactly the meaning of that particular word
Hi guys! I just took a GRE practice test to see where I stand. My scores are very disappointing which terrified me of the test. I scored 131V 132Q. I am so discouraged and disappointed. I need that good looking score 155V 155Q and I don’t see it possible from where I stand now. My goal is to prepare for 3 to 4 months. Does anyone have an experience and can share some tips. I indeed need it.
Thanks for your tips! What book would you recommend to use for studying? I want to buy and use only one book preferably (in addition to free online resources). Thank you!!
Hi Adanna! This is a very late response to this video posted 4y ago. I am wondering what chances I have with being accepted into a PA program. I graduated with my Bachelors in business management, but never worked in the business out of school. I went on to work as a medication tech. I have accumulated 4,000 hrs working at a nursing home, as well as shadowing both a PA and NP. I have completed most of the pre reqs. required for admission to most PA programs . Just wanted to see your journey to becoming a PA, and what you think my chances would be. Thank you so much !

Hey Adanna! I'm scheduled to take the GRE in 3 months, and I'm not sure how long I should be studying daily for the GRE. What would your advice be ? Love you're channel :)
hi Adanna! was there a specific resource you used when prepping for the verbal? like what you used for the root word meanings for flash cards? thank you!!
Hi my name is Nehemie. I have question for you or like a couple. I know that you are a SDA and I am as well. I went to the website and they did not have any other but Saturday and I wanted to ask how did you go about the day to take it ? or did you have the option to take it another day?
I did but I also worked as a waitress and at a assisted living it was like having two full time jobs but I had to do it because I still had to live and pay Bill's. My suggesting is to plan your time wisely and if you're able to plan your test on a day where you can be off before hard to study hard. Do that.

Hi, Ni. That's correct. ETS has a new scoring feature called Score Select where you choose which exam scores are sent to programs. Hope this helps.
HI Adanna, what do you mean by "school numbers" when talking about having them ready at the testing center as soon as you're done with the exam?
Monica, I'm talking about the school codes that you use to report your score. After you've taken your exam you can leave the center and dinyiur reporting at home, but it's like 27 dollars per school. When I took the gre, I had the option to report it to the schools directly at the test center for free. This was o my possible if I didn't leave the center first.
Monica, as you are considering your respective schools and MA programs there should be a code they want you to use somewhere in their literature to send your GRE scores directly to them for your grad application.
Did you do a paper or computer test at the test centre? Can you take the computer test at home?
It was co.puter based and no it's not a take home test
@@AdannaThePA did any of thr questions you practiced come back in the test?
Not questions but definitely saw some of the vocabulary
Hello, i am currently finishing off my last year to complete my bachelor's degree and i am already planning on taking the GRE soon. However, i dont know where and how to start. I bought the book 5lb manhattan. I try scanning through som math problems and they just seem very confusing. Do i just go based on the book? Or do i go back to learning the basics of math? I herd that the GRE is not much about focusing on getting the right answer but rather to how the person "thinks" . Any advice?
This helped so much! I am taking the GRE at the end of February. How did you know what words to study for verbal reasoning?
+Kyndall Echols I just studied what was in the book. It's not really a matter of knowing what words to study as opposed to learning how words are formed so learning the root words learning the root language like all of that encompasses how you're able to break the word down and know exactly the meaning of that particular word
This was so helpful. Thanks so much!
Welcome
What flash cards did you use? Where did you get it from?
I made my own using a gre vocab book.
Thank you!!
Check out a book from the library like she did. The one by ETS (Educational Testing Service).
My name is Adanna too! I love this video. Are you Nigerian as well?
No Trinidadian but i love my naija ppl

How did u do
Amazing info! Btw you’re so beautiful omg
Great video, thanks.
Can you submit your GRE score on an app and take it again and update your score if not acceptable the first try?

Just the kaplan gre vocabulary book
There is also a great free GRE Vocabulary app by Magoosh, available for iOS and Android. Hope this helps.
Cool!
Hi my name is Nehemie. I have question for you or like a couple. I know that you are a SDA and I am as well. I went to the website and they did not have any other but Saturday and I wanted to ask how did you go about the day to take it ? or did you have the option to take it another day?
tell me best book that help me to achieve my GRE exam
I got 2.6 gpa in my undergrad in Bachelor of sciencr degree. Do i have any chance with PA schools?
Hey Adanna
I am 16 , should i take the exam? I am studying for it
If I plan on taking the GRE in September but apps aren’t due until December, should I still send my scores that early?
How long did you spend studying each day? Great video too btw!
About 8 it was my full-time job. Lol
Did you study for this full time? Any advice for someone who's working full time and spending bits of time here and there trying to study?
I did but I also worked as a waitress and at a assisted living it was like having two full time jobs but I had to do it because I still had to live and pay Bill's. My suggesting is to plan your time wisely and if you're able to plan your test on a day where you can be off before hard to study hard. Do that.
