@@michaelbecker2435 yeah I too love watching Mackinnon. He's an animal! You must watch Makar though! His defense is solid, and the term "special" is regularly used by announcers throughout the league, and for good reason. Quick rant on the subject:
Everyone notices the scoring, or how instrumental he is for this shift in how hockey is being played by the defense, because they are now skating deep or carrying the puck in shifting assignments with forwards whether or not they are in the offensive zone, which of course has created more scoring opportunities. This is because it is more difficult to manage, deceptive, and probably most important it creates a situation where more players are more available, making the game faster and more entertaining. BUT, all that said, that is the highlight reel stuff you may or may not have seen in all reels he is in. His IQ though is unreal!!
There is probably no argument by any analyst anywhere that he at least matches the top players of all time for reading the play and knowing what is about to occur. It's uncanny really... as a player myself, seeing him deliberately move to a spot which the puck squirts out to a second or two later in the chaos is really wowing considering he does it all the time. Or the hits he lays on players or pokes at the appropriate (I dare say perfect) time to completely negate their play, and the edge work to do what he does... as a package deal, "special" is definitely the correct term. Definitely add him to your list to at least check out!
I have to ask though, are you a Calgary fan or something? Can't stand McDavid? I mean I criticized him too in years past for not being the two-way he could be, but he's learning and adapting, and I personally find him entertaining as heck to watch! Mackinnon even said something to the effect, "he's just so much better than everyone else."; gotta wonder why one wouldn't like watching him play.

When I saw McDavid i had really good seats. You could hear him skate, you could hear the ice crunching underneath his power. I was in a section where it was not sold out. I had bar service there lol but it was not sold out. When he got the puck the fans gasped. This was in Vancouver by the way. His first possession he went through the entire team and set up Darnell Nurse for a goal. It was amazing to see in person. I have never seen a player like that. That player is worth the price of admission. I paid $450 for that ticket and it was worth the 20 seconds it took for that to happen. It was probably less than 20 seconds but the people in my section did not sit down because they saw a moment of brilliance. He got a standing ovation

Huge Leaf fan. Have been as long as I can remember. Have to say, Mitch Marner is embarrassingly self centered. Ridiculous how the media celebrate the guy. He wants to win, so long as he's perceived as the hero. Makes amazing plays in his own end, from time to time. More frequently just chases the puck. No defensive discipline. Especially on the penalty kill. Other teams will capitalize on that in the playoffs. I'd rather the team is top 5 in killing penalties than have a hot dog leading the pk and the team is 15th overall. Scoring 5 shorthanded points in a season is not the offensive threat he's made out too be. Love the Leafs and hoping for the best in the playoffs.
