Excellent video, Stefan! I have been exploring 7-line technology for 30 years and I wish this had been around back then. You are correct on the fan mounting, it should pull air out. I proved this with temperature probes some years ago. For the desoldering technique I have used Hakko and Pace for years at my "day job" and find that what works best for me is to let the tip sit on the joint for two or three seconds to completely flow the solder before I engage the vacuum, and also not to disengage the vacuum until after I pull the tip away to help prevent reflow. 73 de Jim NU0C.
Also, plastic cut from a white shampoo bottle and placed behind the PTO lamp helps even the illumination out a little.
Thanks Stefan for this video; I will watching all of them that are with the TR-7. I acquired mine a few years ago and never used it; have been using my old T4XB/R4B instead. Time now to put the TR-7 on the air. In doing some research on-line, and this video, I am finding out that there were some differences in these radios. This looks like a great series! Would it be worth my time to watch if I have the receive-only R7? I would like to clean it up and getting it in good working order again.
Hi Marko, difficult because R7 and TR7 are very similar but not identical. The main problem here was the TX(!)-path. But you can choose fast forward in the video...hi

sehr interessantes Video und ein schönes Gerät. Ich selbst restauriere auch. Solch einen Drake TR7 suche ich auch noch.
Das einzige US Gerät was ich bisher reparierte ist ein Atlas 210 und einen Swan Astro150. Sonst überwiegend Kenwood Hybriden, Yaesu FT7, und ettliche ICOM Geräte.
Meistens aus der Zeit ende 70er Anfang bis Mitte 80er. Habe deinen Kanal durch das Braun SE280 gefunden, da arbeite ich zZ dran.
Ich freue mich schon auf den 2.Teil (Aboniert habe ich dich ;-).....)

so wie es aktuell aussieht, werden das mehr als drei Teile..... Die PA macht viel Ärger. :-(
@@dl7majstefan753 Nun, dann wird es ja nicht langweilig werden ;-) Beim IC701 den ich hier noch zu restaurieren habe ist auch die Endstufe kaputt. Leider finde ich kein MP dafür. Somit habe ich ihn zunächst mal wieder ins Regal geschoben.
Dann bin ich trotzdem gespannt wie es mit der PA des Drake weiter geht.

Wenn ich es nicht vergesse, werde ich meine Videos in Zukunft erst dann freischalten ("publish"), wenn YT das Verarbeiten des Videos ("processing") zu 100% abgeschlossen hat. Warum YT die Videos schon vorab mit geringer Auflösung freischalten lässt, weiß ich nicht.
