Hi Chandler, I live in Brazil. I am a psychologist and in the spare time and amateur knifemaker. Every week I look forward to watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us.

Thanks for posting all your experimental videos. You're one of the main reasons I've started forging. I love your quote "Its ok if I fail as long as I know why". I've recently aquired a bunch of 1/4 and 1/2 in cable steel and I'm loving just smashing them together and seeing what happends!

Love it when you experiment makes want to push my own envelope. It's easy to get stuck in the same stuff you do everyday or do well. You inspire me to go farther. Thank you.

I have been watching you videos as well as other peoples forge videos and I thought you might like to know that your are in my opinion by far the best. You take the time to explain what you are doing and why making yours much more educational than ones I have seen from so called experts. Glad to see you back at it and I look forward to seeing the knife you get from this piece.

great video, I really enjoy watching your videos, the way you show what your doing, showing us how things go from start to finish is pretty much how us novices would try to do the same thing, one thing I like is you show that you don't need a power hammer to shape the metal let alone to forge weld, don't get me wrong, I know a power hammer would be nice but most of us can't afford to sell our first born to get a power hammer, another thing I like about this video is you had no idea in the beginning how the springs would work if at all but you were still willing to try it out, most people don't think about how things were developed or made from what was unknown, hopefully I am making sense, either way, great video

Hey, it's great to see you back at the anvil again! (I agree with whoever said you probably have SAD, which means you get depressed when there isn't much sunlight - they sell special lights for you to use indoors that duplicate the effect of sunshine, and they really do work.) I love your fish/dragon scale pattern - it's amazing what patterns develop when you flatten, fold, and re-shape different materials. Keep pounding away on white-hot steel - it's obvious that it's good for what ails ya!

Great work, Chandler! Looks like the idea to put the 01 in there was pretty smooth. In general, looks like the forge welds were pretty good, and then you cut and folded for another round. That's when things looked really solid! Good call on doing it a third time and then drawing it out. Neat project - can't wait to see the final result!

Wow, that's exactly what I've been trying to do for the last year or so on my off time. I found a few huge coil springs similar to yours and layered one with C06 pure carbon steel strips, trying to make a pattern welded viking sword. I have the billet almost ready to be drawn out and this really gives me hope that it could actually work out fine.
Good to see someone else also fooling around with random spring steels.
