    ROPE WALKING SETUP
    I had to try out rope walking with two foot ascender! A Petzl Pantin and Petzl Croll which is attached to a foot loop. It's on double rope (2:1 DRT), which means that the draw back only provide half the ascent ...but on the other hand is the weight to be pulled is also the half. Check how the extra foot ascender was put together and see if it worked. WARNING: It´s not a life supporting device.
    ROPE WALKING SETUP
ADVARSEL: It´s not a life supporting device.
    HARDWARE USED FOR EXTRA FOOT ASCENDER
    Foot loop, Petzl Croll, Petzl Protec, Bungee, Mini Carabiner and Tie Wraps.
    ALSO USED ON CLIMB
    Lava® Surge® 11.5 mm tree climbing rope with Petzl ZIGZAG® mechanical prusik, 2013 TreeMotion Arborist Harness/ Saddle, Kask Super Plasma Climbing Helmet,, Petzl Pantin.

    Hi soren , you should double the size of ur bungee take it over your left shoulder and clip it to a rear attachment on your harness, you'll find u get a lot better return on the knee ascender 😊

    I bet you could hook the webbing to the lower hole of the Crowl and the bungee to the upper hole and have a much stronger knee climber.
    I realize it’s not life support, but I’m to heavy for wire ties alone and it would stink if the ties broke half way up the rope. Great idea Soren, thanks for sharing.

      Hi Michael ....it should be possible! Climb safe!

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To achieve max elasticity, the bungee should be as long as possible. If you tie it too high, you don't get enough effect on the bungee!

      Thanks Simon! It works fine, but the climb must be long before I use it and before there is considerable time to save! Stay safe!

      Soren Satellit My elbows tell me I need to find alternative joints to do the bulk of ascending, I intend to set up something similar and use it often TBH. Keep innovating bro

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, elbows is very exposed after all the pulling! Temperature bath (shower) has helped me a lot when I have sore muscles or joints. During shower, the area is treated with hot and cold water. First shower the area with hot water and increase to the maximum temperature that you can tolerate. Once the joints and muscles is warmed up for about 3 minutes, suddenly change the water temperature to ice cold water for 1 minute. Repeat this 5-6 times or until the cold water feels less cold. The sooner you do this after hard work, the better it works. After work, I do this on arms and back as a regular part of my shower. Try, it actually works!

    Hi Søren, thanks again for a very educative video. My question is; Is this also possible just with the footloop? And no Petzl Protect and bungee?
    Thank you,
    Jeroen

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Jeroen! At a minimum, it requires a bungee, or else your croll will not be pulled up when you lift the foot. The bungee must be as long as possible to achieve sufficient effect and is therefore connected down at the foot. The Petzl protect must brace the system between croll and footloop, otherwise the foot loop will just bend when you draw your foot upwards.

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephen Neeson Hey Stephen! Yes, one step forward although I take two (DRT 2:1), but on the other hand is the weight to be pulled also the half. A whole week with picking certified pine cones is waiting for me and therefore I have to find the most "energy efficient" (lazy) ascent. Yep, body-thrust is still solid learning at the College for Forestry.

    Thanks a lot for the great tutorial!
    I built this setup as it looks really nice but when I tested it the (upper) tie wrap snapped after a few steps on the way up.
    Do you have any advice for that?
    I thout I might try a thin 'climbing rope' instead... Do you think that might work? Or maybe both - tie wrap and rope?
    Thanks a lot for your advice!

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jens! Yes those tie wraps should be placed so they don't interfere with the rope track. Maybe it's the rope ... I use 11.5mm. Also notice, that there are two different crolls. I use the old version of Croll for 8-13 mm rope. The new is only 8-10 mm.

    Can you explain how the bungie pulls the ascender up since it is attached to the footloop, not the ascender. What am I missing? Thanks.

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chuckles! The connection between the foot loop and ascender is braced with PETZL protec, otherwise the foot loop will just bend when you draw your foot upwards.

    Why ascend on a double rope system?
    It takes twice as many steps as a single rope system.

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Stig! It is true! But in many cases the ascend is less than 5% of the total time in the tree ... so there is not much time to save. In contrast, DRT (now called MRS / Moveable Rope Systems) is not only double rope but also twice as safe because the anchor point is only loaded with your own weight. In an SRT system (now SRS / Stationary Rope Systems) with anchoring at the bottom of the tree, the load of the branch is 2 x your weight. But in the end, it's all about what suits you best!
      DK
      Tak Stig! Det er sandt! Men i mange tilfælde er opstigningen under 5% af den samlede tid i træet ...så der er ikke meget tid at spare. Til gengæld er DRT ( nu kaldt MRS/Moveable Rope Systems) ikke bare dobbelt reb men også dobbelt så sikkert, fordi ankerpunket kun bliver belastet med dig egen vægt. I et SRT system (nu kaldt SRS / Stationary Rope Systems) med forankring i bunden af træet, er belæstningen af grenen 2 x din vægt. Men i sidste ende handler om hvad der passer dig bedst!

      Hi John! It's a former/old footloop from Petzl. The new "FOOTAPE" (www.petzl.com/INT/en/Professional/Rope-clamps/FOOTAPE) works in the same way, but otherwise they have also made a "Lower strap for KNEE ASCENT LOOP assembly" (https: //www.petzl.com/INT/en/Professional/Rope-clamps/Lower-strap-for-KNEE-ASCENT-LOOP-assembly) which also seem to be able to handle the task.

    Sorry, Guy, but it seems that you are using clamps with an climbing rope. Climbing ropes are not made for using with rope clamps. You will destroy their 'mantel' which carries your weight. Ascending ropes carry your weight by their 'kern' and the 'mantel' is build for using clamp systems. Climb safe.

    • @SorenSatellit
      @SorenSatellit  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      All ropes for professional tree climbing are constructed with a interior core (that carries your weight) and a exterior sheath, which protects the core from external influences ...like rope clamps!
