There have been occasional rumors and speculative discussions about Greenland potentially seeking closer ties with the U.S., but there is no concrete evidence that Greenland wants to leave Denmark and join the U.S. as a state. Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and its government has expressed interest in greater self-determination, including the possibility of independence in the future, but this is a long-term goal, not a push to join the U.S. The idea of Greenland potentially becoming part of the U.S. gained some attention in 2019 when former President Donald Trump expressed interest in purchasing Greenland, but the proposal was quickly rejected by Denmark and Greenland. While the U.S. has military bases in Greenland (due to its strategic location in the Arctic), the territory's political and cultural ties are firmly with Denmark. In short, while there are occasional speculative discussions, there is no indication that Greenland is actively pursuing joining the U.S. or leaving Denmark in the near future.

Of course the Inuits, the natives, were always there. The connection to Denmark really came about because Norway for a time was ruled by Denmark. Today the Danes seem more like colonizers than equal partners. Despite of Greenland being self-governed, it still has a lot of Danish officials there. I don't think the US would have a greater claim to Greenland but I do understand the security concerns. The solution is probably greater access by US military with some sort of dispensation to the locals. If Denmark makes too much of a fuss maybe an idea is to swap the US virgin Islands for Greenland? The US Virgin Islands use to be Danish.
@@adifferentangle7064 Denmark is insignificant and it owes the USA more money than it can possibly hope to pay off, though Greenland will be an acceptable down payment.

They will be an independent country for a few days until congress votes their admission to the union. It is Greenland, and only Greenland, that determines what future Greenland will have. It is ridiculous to listen to a person who thinks he is an expert after staying for 5 hours in a country. Denmark has been in Greenland since 1320. The International Court of Justice decided that Denmark should have Greenland. If the USA imposes economic sanctions against Denmark, the USA will enter into a trade war with the entire EU. Last year, a musketeer's oath was made in the EU that if a country is exposed to economic restrictions/tariffs/boycott then the entire EU applies. This oath was initially directed against China, but now it can be used against the United States if Trump wants to punish Denmark. Something else is that France has today announced that a physical attack on Greenland is an attack on the entire EU. If Trump wants hard on hard, he'll get it.
It is very ludicrous of you to assume he didn't know everything there was to know about Greenland before he got there - he went to meet the people and to discuss possible negotiations. Greenland will be a rich country if they decide to make a deal with us. I don't think we need to buy them either, I think the best outcome is that they become a US territory with some special arrangements to pour money into developing the local economy. There's less than 60k residents of Greenland, and there's no reason we shouldn't make them all rich and free. When Trump says we're going to treat you well, he really means it. We'll set you and your country up for life, and like our other territories, offer the best protection in the world in exchange for exclusive access for our bases and some US say in decisions at the national level.
Greenland already has more than America can offer, they are potected by Nato have sound government and sound enviromental policies, why not but pat of Siberia instead
They really do need to get the input of the Greenland people. I heard one lady an American that lives there and isn’t interested in it becoming a part of the US. If the people are good with it then why not?
The Greenland people can in theory vote for joining the US, and the Danes says in general they won't go against the wishes of the Greenland people. Greenland is half way indenpendant at this point. It's not correct as Jr states, that the Greenland people are stopped form having some minerals not extracted. Greenland decides fully themselves over their minerals. It's the governemnt of Greenland that do not want to see mining for uranium, due to risk of local pollution. The Greenland society is shaped and run according to the Scandinavia social democrat model, there is a quite large distance to the Us political model. Will likely end up with a independant Greenland, having a close relation to both the US, and EU

But they're not going to.
@@adifferentangle7064 Denmark is insignificant and it owes the USA more money than it can possibly hope to pay off, though Greenland will be an acceptable down payment.
@@ThaiThom Denmark quite literally owes the US $0. You know you're awake right?
That's actually not true, most Greenlanders have said they don't want anything to do with neither Denmark nor the U.S, they want to be an independent country.
They will be an independent country for a few days until congress votes their admission to the union. Then we'll have to send out an order for millions of new flags to be produced with that 51st star in it. Then Trump will personally welcome the Greenlanders and afterwards he'll call Denmark and tell their PM "Ya should've sold it!" 😀
Great interview, Newsmax.
Such a breath of fresh air hearing this.
Arrogance
for real, it's so shameful
Greenland belong to Inuit people not to Denmark!
yea yea
Alaska also which is US.
Yea! So becoming a part of the US would... not really help, would it?
@@TheJazzDaneMaybe they prefer Russia or China?
@@TheJazzDaneThe US has more to offer them.
So if the Greenlanders vote no to not democratically separate from Denmark, then the United States will invade and fight against an allied nation that has stood side by side with your military in Iraq and Afghanistan where Danish soldiers were killed in combat, severely wounded, and left with scars on their souls. And this is the gratitude we receive now???
Tak for lorten!!
I would love to hear Greenlands take on the topic.
Its a pretty simple no, just like last time.
Exactly.
Let's make this deal. It's good for the USA, Greenland, and the world.
And for DENMARK!!!
There is no deal to be made. Greenland land dont want to be part of the u.s. And all of Europe will defend greenland. Congratulations you just made an enemy out of all of Europe
@@onestoptechnologies7305 It would save Denmark money for sure.

You are saying out of Jealousy, because you cannot become the US citizen.
@bikal1645 NEVER! BTW, I am Not Alone!
@phyllissorensen4579 i agree with you... iam a US citizen... and im embarrassed...
@@bikal1645apparently I can become a US citizen since Trump wants to steal my country and absorb it into the US, and I don’t want to. The US is becoming a pariah state and a bully. No single country on Earth feels like the US is a friend at the moment, or can be trusted. What an insane reversal from the previous 100 years. This will not be good for US or the world.
Not everything is for sale.
Don't try taking advantage of weaker country Denmark.
Go for it.
It is very ludicrous of you to assume he didn't know everything there was to know about Greenland before he got there - he went to meet the people and to discuss possible negotiations. China and Russia want to expand - don't you think it would be in the best interest of the U.S. to do the same? Difference in the U. S. and the other two I mentioned is that America believes in freedom. Sounds like your people are itching for a fight- I don't know - just saying. As far as the other things you mentioned I will study that - for what reason would the U.S. want to punish Denmark?
@@peggypearlman The Danish press and people from Greenland have posted videos of who it was he met. One was someone who had been in prison for many years for drug smuggling. Another is someone who is mentally ill and calls himself the "King of Greenland" This is the level of the propaganda that Trump uses.

Let the people vote. We will know in an afternoon with only 50,000 people.
No. The Greenlanders don't want that.
Denmark has to fund Greenland with billions every year for them to survive. Is America financially capable of doing the same? $37 trillion in debt.
Yep.

Long live president Trump
Great interview
America starting to act like Putin and using military force against other countries unprovoked.
When did the war start? I missed it.
Minsk agreement? Hello? Was repeatedly ignored/ broken. Merkel even admitted as much.
This is a great idea.
Greenland should join America quickly
They’d be the richest 50,000 people in the world.
Join what? America has never been so divided since 1860. Country’s on the brink of falling apart
@jameslongstreet9259 Greenland citizens agreed with Trump Vance policies soon Greenland joining America God bless united states of America
They need to just focus on the economy and inflation and cost of living. I don’t want to hear about this.

Hmmm, real estate in Greenland is about to skyrocket if this gets close to becoming a reality.
Get your facts straight Mr. Don Jr. - Denmark has paid billions and billions over the last 200 years, to sustain the Greenlandic population - so saying that Denmark is ripping them off, is really insulting. It is actually the other way round.
God Bless Greenland!

Its a Win-Win!
Actually it's a big loss for Greenland.
Having Trump as your president is a big lose as the entire USA is about to find out...
Strange . Greenland has total autonomy. Only foreign affairs and defence is run by the Parlement in Kopenhagen.
Besides, Denmark pays a lot on social security. They will never get that from Trump.
Thanks for the collectivist pov.
50 Billion and everyone in Greenland is a millionaire.
Pays a lot for 50k people? It's the population of a small town! Under Trump, Greenland would be treated seriously and its natural resources properly utilized. In other words, you'd have a lot more going on there unlike now.

No it doesn't. The US rules over those islands with an iron fist. The natives can't do anything about it. 😀 🇺🇲

Good practical comments.
