    Father, I'm so grateful for your talks on marriage. I'm presently being courted by a man in my church whose soul is so beautiful. I knew a few days into our talking that I wanted to marry him, and he likewise sees me as his future wife. Later this month we're heading to Walla Walla to visit Fr. Daniel Reese and get his blessing. Please keep us in your prayers as we move forward on this journey. And I pray someday that we can meet you (you come up to WA often enough, so I should be able to see you sometime). Good strength!

    I agree with them to an extent. Im in a difficult marriage that should be worked through with Christ. My husband is a good man. With that said, my beautiful faith-filled mother was violently and relentlessly abused by a drunk man with no sight of God left in him. He abused his children so badly we all have chronic issues. We absolutely would've been better off mind and body without enduring that atrocious sin filled environment. It was vile and corrupted, and I'm glad she sought safety for herself in the end. She lives a quiet life as a celibate woman. No drunkenness or vile abuse destroying her health and wellbeing, including her spiritual wellbeing. Divorce unfortunately has its place in this fallen world.

      In every suffering, God provides much healing. You may have gone through terrible things and are very hurt, but just like we can get injured physically tearing a muscle, we seek out proper physical therapy to heal that muscle. Digging deeper into the faith will heal your wounded soul. In fact, there is a book called “Healing your wounded soul: growing from pain to peace” by an Orthodox priest who is also a therapist. Highly recommend!

      Grew up in a similar situation and we kids begged our mom to leave our father for years. We all grew and had families but kept God first and my father returned to Christ 30 years later and they are legitimately happy and in love celebrating 60 years of marriage. You need Christ first and it healed them. I don't know how my mom did it and survived.

    For those needing hope, don't think about what he can do different, think about how you can transform. Marriages can transform even when only one spouse transforms, because there is so much feedback loops in relationships that we don't even realize. Look up the advice Elder Thaddeus of Vitovnica, our thoughts determine our lives.

      Byzantine Catholic is still Papist, isn't it? Then there is no theological difference. Eastern Right in the Roman Catholicism was created for deceiving the Orthodox into the Papism, and as late as early XX century were treated as the second class within it.

    The problem is that you cannot make your spouse believe or make the cross central in life. This also assumes that people operate in a rational way during disagreements. What do you do when you are constantly hit below the belt? Even though I want to serve, I am still human and do not have the strength in the way Christ does. Marriage is total pain for me. My wife doesn’t love me, but only likes what I can provide. Any discussion is an automatic fight. Women have taken on the masculine role. There is no room for a man in this situation

    • @mchristr
      @mchristr 43 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry that you're going through this. I can relate having been in a similar situation. My response was to get up every day, committed to loving and serving my wife, and to immerse myself in Christian community. She left the marriage anyway but my attitude, to honor the reputation and lordship of Jesus, has paid huge dividends years later. Prayers for your, and your wife's, repentance and obedience.

      This is highly underrated comment!!! There are, at least in the West, many many many men that are faithful, sacrificial, serving, etc. and women use, emotionally abuse, and eventually drag them through divorce, accepted by a church or not, taking everything from them!

    The best option is 2 parents that love each other in marriage for the children - Not dysfunctional and with constant fighting, and being apathic towards each other these marriage are just as bad or worse then divorced marriage.

    One is Saint Nicholas (our Patron and Parish Saint) and the second is an Icon of the Guardian Angel.

      Believing oneself to be abused can absolutely destroy a non-abusive viable relationship. There are occasional cases of real abuse, but the vast majority of what passes for abuse these days, isn't actually. Modern therapy is often an echo chamber that just validates false perceptions.
