Everyone struggles with trying to become the best versions of themselves. The truth is most of us are fine how we are right now. The key thing to know is life is a journey, it's not a destination. Throughout your life people are going to join your journey and travel with you for a while and then leave you to continue on with their life journey. Looking for the perfect person is a fool's errand. What you need is a guy your age to join you on your life journey. The guy you are talking about actually did that. So what happened actually went perfectly.
