This is great. I’ve been playing 40K for 30 years. I have 19 armies, and recently painted a couple thousand points of Deathwatch…just in time for GW to squat them 2 weeks after I finished. Made me pretty angry. Now, I can play them again as something other than Imperial Agents.
And they get two grenade launchers. A 10 man squad can have a sergeant with fist and plasma pistol (to die if you roll overheat), 2 improved bolt rifles and grenade launchers, 4 hellblasters, 2 desos and a flamer. That's pretty much all stuff you want.
The rules are worse than before actually. The detachment rule, and most stratagems got nerfed. The units have good rules but are all 20-30 points overcosted. Also used to be able to take kill teams in smaller units. Now most of them are fixed at 10.
@@dras-pv8qv yes but they're back now (so better than not having them be legal) and the changes that make them worse also discourage meta chasers, so we should have less bandwagoning too. Win win
Thanks for this! Deathwatch pulled me back into the game at the start of 10th after having quit during 6e, and losing them was a real kick in the teeth. Nice to see them back!
I bought Leviathan, grabbed the CP and a few packs of upgrades, paints, etc... and then came the ominous disturbance in the vibefield. ... Finally, 18 months later, it's time to take clipper to sprue!
Can someone explain to me how the detachment rule is allowed to affect all space marine units when it says “that Mission Tactic is active and its effects apply to all units from your army with this ability.” And only the deathwatch units have that ability on their datasheet? I haven’t seen anyone else mention it and want to know if I am missing something about the wording.
Those Deathwatch Bolt rifles/heavy bolt rifles/heavy bolter are seriously good und i feel you underrated them a little in your video. I mean a 270 pts 10 dude gravis kill team is all killer no filler that you also can uppy downy if i am not mistaken. S 11 meltas, S6 Boltstorm or flamestorm + S7 Bolt weapons with lethals and ap2....of course they're gonna get some kind of special rounds for ignores cover or whatever... i mean it's 27 pts a model....colour me interested or rather GIVE IT TO ME!
Love watching John trying to be patient getting the boring stuff out of the way before getting to the parts he’s actually excited for!! Thanks for the content guys
wait, I was really excited about that one but am I correct that ONLY the datasheets in the index profit from the mission rule? No other Adeptus Astartes Units have the "mission tactics" keyword. So vehicles, centurion devastators etc don't profit from the dettachment rule at all
This seems cool. Though I would have wished for a 5-man phobos team. I really like how this feels like an elite infantry force when building the force, opposed to the simplified Codex SM.
Indomitor kill team seems bonkers . 4 s11 melta shots, 4 7-2-2 bolters, 6 7-2-3 lethal sustained heavy bolters, a bunch of s6 twin linked aggressor shots is ALOT a fire power with some melee to back it. Also being able to deep strike into melta range with +1 ap and lethal or sustained with the detachment rule and kraken rounds PLUS OATH. We COULD be one shotting land raiders and c'tan out of deep stirke 😅 with reasonable rolls. Am I reading this wrong?
22:59 Is that the first unit in the game that has that interaction come up? - Different KINDs of hazardous weapons, so different 'value' for failed tests.
Deathwatch is the fluffy army I'm slowly building up, but the fluffy rules now havw teeth. I'm 100% looking at two Talonstrike teams with a Captain now. I really like the gravis brick, too.
Fortis KT is 2 superkrak misisles, 4 plasma incinerators, fill with intercessions because the bolt rifle they have is S5 ap2 dam1 plus 2 grenade launchers on the rifles because more krak Indomnitor is dope though…that with a gravis cap for free strats it’s heavy intercessions and 3 eradicator a so 2 dw heavy bolter, a bunch of heavy bolt rifles, 2 melta and 1 MM, this probably doesn’t need the shooting buffs so does free pick up strat. I’d use the shooting buffs on fortis KT with watchmaster I think the jump pack kill team is a trap though, 5 plasma is nice yes as is the assault bolters with ap strat but overall… no as the fortis and indomnitor are better and will just kill what they shoot at so you shouldn’t necessarily have anything to charge but you could deepstrike them have a chaplain with the free ingress bring em in to setup a free fuck one unit in particular I guess but then you need to think what are my primary scoring units if I’ve got 3 kill stuff units
I like th Phobos KT a lot, the upp down is going to be very nice scoring wise and with a WM with that enhancement they can just come back for free ingress not get killed and go score more VP Or you can use it on the gravis KT, that looks like a lot of damage from s11 meltas and the rest Like this looks so nice
Can someone explain why the teleporting strat isnt just worded, at the end of your opponents turn? I'm trying to figure if theres any pro to it being end of your opponents fight phase?
hey, just a bit of feedback I usually watch your content 2nd monitor but volume of the videos is really low, could you increase it so we can control with the youtube volume slider accordingly?
@ competitively, I agree. I think the detachment is very much in the vein of something like Firestorm where it’s very usable, just not as good as other options (mainly Gladius).
Balance Dataslate still lists Black Spear and limits the ammo strats to Bolt Weapons. Hopefully it changes but for now Hellfire, Kraken and Dragonfire are all limited to bolt weapons.
The detachment rule got nerfed which a lot of people missed (I believe this video as well). In the original index the entire army benefited from the tactics. Now only those units that have the "Mission Tactics" ability, which is literally only the units in the index. So all units you draw from the space marines codex will not get the benefits. Major nerf from before.
@dras-pv8qv not true. Even the current xenos hunters detachment for imperial agents still triggers the precision on critical wounds. It should always have been critical hits but wasn't.
Maybe you could do an army painter speedpaint tutorial on how to paint a deathwatch killteam. A lot of us now want to learn to speed paint black armour
Kraken Rounds strat unlocks Melta for the melta rifles when they deep strike.
Yeah thats actually so powerful
Those s11 melta? Mmm
Nah you use the enhancement for free ingress
Pick ‘em up with strat, fre eingress them, move, kill
And gives them ap-5

Did you guys notice that the fortis bolters are also -2 and lethal?

correct. 99% of everyone, including art of war, missed this part. The whole army benefited from the detachment rule. Not anymore
@ that makes deathwatch way way worse than before
I doubt that won't be corrected in the faq tbh
@ same. But as it stands right now

Thanks John and Seigs
great breakdown. other big channels (not naming names) missed some very important details
Thanks foe the reviews, Team
Gravis cpt + 6 eradicators with deepstrike. Pop kraken rounds...now out of deepstrike you get melta 2
You can't use kraken on a eradicator unit. Only use SIA strat on a killteam

Scoring purposes. Very niche but that's a difference
everybody keep in mind that ONLY deathwatch units get mission tactics. Your regular marine datasheets will NOT get it.
