Episode 649: Thinna Sacrifices His Eyes
---------------------------------------------------------------
Thinna’s devotion and childlike insistence impress Mahadev. He finally appears in front of Thinna and accepts his non-vegetarian food. While Thinna is enjoying his moments with Mahadev, the priest arrives. He sees the meat in Thinna’s hand and lashes out on Thinna in anger. A few tribesmen also arrive and beat Thinna to the pulp. The priest intervenes and saves Thinna’s life. He then returns to the temple and apologizes on Thinna’s behalf. It’s then that Mahadev starts a conversation with him. He tells the priest that the manner of prayer and devotion is irrelevant; what matters is the purity of the heart. Thinna regains consciousness and returns with the food. Thinna sees Shivling weeping and wipes the tears. However, the tears don’t stop. Thinna tries medication, but it’s essentially nonaffective. Thinna grows anxious, and hence, in desperation, he sacrifices his own eyes to treat the eyes of the Shivling. In the end, both Shiva and Parvati appear and blesses Thinna and his wife Neela with Moksha. Mahadev gives him a new name, Kanappa. Mahadev absorbs their souls. The priest, who witnesses the entire event, is impressed with it. He starts praising Thinna. As Ganesha’s tale of Thinna ends, we see the demon goat is about to reach the temple.
