Just so people understand the undertaking, this took a full 4 hour stream to do and about 80 people (including me) crashed again during the actual race. Still it was fun though
What an insane experience! So happy to have been a part of it. It's always amazing to see the community you've managed to build around these races. Props to the guys at 8th Gear for all their hard work to make these happen, even if it didn't go as planned. Can't wait for the next one 😊
I've been watching these for years but never thought I'd race in one, let alone such a huge one. Super big thanks to Broughy and all the organisers for getting it all set up, and props to the other racers too, saw some pretty friendly behaviour at several points. Special extra thx for letting us last swimmers get onto the island, I was already mentally preparing for a dnf d:
After 4 years of watching Gfreds, RandomAlls and such on YT, and even being subscribed on Twitch for 2 of them even though I'm almost never home when you're live, I finally made sure I was home to take part in this. Even though we only completed one race the entire stream, I still enjoyed every minute of it. I died twice, forgot to use the parachute, got rammed off chilliad twice and still managed to finish in 168th, ahead of 120 other people! My only goal was not to DNF so I count this first Gfred experience a success.
It was great to be there! I started with the Derfg, it was going pretty well until the airport, I had a good car, good position... then I accidentally went up chiliad instead of heading for the quarry, forgetting that it isn't a gfred. Was decently smooth sailing after that! I don't know how much time I'd lost going all the way up, then tumbling down into Grapeseed and only then going to the quarry, but I finished 54th with 48:24, and a top 20 position would have only needed me to be 5 minutes quicker. I feel like I wasted much more than that!
I wondered how many people would make the mistake while watching Broughy. Very easy to lose orientation when concentrating on all the traffic and the 100s of other players. Tough luck, but well done!
I've met Broughy 3 times this race and all 3 times we were only inches apart and I only realized the first 2 times when watching this video, the third one was the only one i noticed while driving as i was peeking over into the stream on my second screen and saw that he was approaching me. Here are the 3 timestamps: 18:12 27:52 46:08 I died shortly after the first one because my car exploaded after so many people crashed into me, I also died shortly after meeting him the second time on my way up Chilliad and a third time when I got yeeted off the train bridge after going down Chilliad again,. Finished 180th, what a crazy race.
As i dont do twitch ive been losing sleep in the anticipation of when this was gonna appear on my yt feed . This morning i was so dissapointed again only to be elated to see it appear at about 5pm tonight .. thanks broughy and everyone involved.
Fantastic event, proud to have been a part of it! First ever Gfred event, or any FiveM event, I've ever joined and even with all the hiccups and difficulties setting it up I enjoyed all of it. Huge props to you and all the guys behind FiveM and specifically 8th Gear for making this possible
Yeah, so I was on the Derfg side, got an amazing start, got on the freeway, hitched a ride to the observatory, got out, found a good car, aimed for Chiliad. I was 66th. at that point. Messed up the jump across the river towards the hotlap route, submerged the car, had to find another one. Made it up Chiliad, realized I didn't get the observatory cp, got knocked off and exploded, so I started back at the island. Did the whole thing again, was about to finish in around 186th. place, when I went for the Hail Mary and my parachute wouldn't appear for at least five seconds, and when it did, it was too late. Oh, yeah, good times. But in all seriousness, thanks, Broughy, it's been a remarkably fun experience.
35:15 yes - still not the optimal line, but much better than your previous attempt In the Humane Labs heist, there's a mission where two Insurgents must be stolen at the quarry The line was useful back in the day, when you wanted to get to the quarry first so as to steal the driver's seat 😜
This was a great Gfred to get back to Gfreds! Lots of fun! I was lucky to get in when it actually worked, so I'm happy the player limit of 250 didn't work but that it didn't fill up too much yet again. Big kudos to the 8th Gear people! It's amazing that this is possible!
Absolutely LOVED this! Despite all the carnage, I had a great time running this one, even with a Massive Chiliad Disaster thanks to how congested the path was there. Still managed to have a good race in the end and saw RBS just before he finished the race! GG to everyone who participated, and thanks to the 8th Gear team for allowing this to happen.
We must have had similar runs of it. A 39 minute derfG - 14 minutes of it trying to recover after getting knocked off the path on Chiliad three times; I can tell you that whatever that empty car at 19:48 is, it can't climb to save its life - to get to the starting island not long after RBS. 25 minute Gfred home to finish 200th.
We must have. I ended up 181 at the end. I had a 37 minute derfG with a 10 minute Chiliad recovery. 3 knockoffs as well. 24 minute Gfred. I'll have footage up in the next day or two.
Thank you Broughy, everyone in the race, FiveM, 8th Gear, Project Homecoming and Rockstar for all the laughs and entertainment this has provided over the years! Here's to 200 more!
Even though it was an absolute slog to finally get to the point of a stable server for the race, and even though many of us ended up not participating....this was still a hoot. Thanks. Looking forward to the next attempt. GG All.
For there being 287 other people, my race was surprisingly calm. Only had a few moments where people drove in the wrong lane, and ended up 6th on the Gfred side (14th overall). Did the Elevator line up and Hotlap route down both times, I got pretty lucky with timing.
this was such a wild thing to be part of, chilliad especially was such a crazy mess 🤣 but it was awesome, hopefully something like this will happen again in the future
I'm sad we didn't get a lapfred, as that's the thing I was looking forward to the most. But I understand why they couldn't with all the server issues they were having. Fingers crossed the 8th gear GFRED he does next month is a lapfred.
So we're doing Minilapfred in the next stream as we didn't get lapfred this time right? 😎 That was an insane stream though! Once the crossover started it just didn't end, no idea how I got 16th overall. Thanks to everyone for joining & to Broughy for gathering this many people!
It crashed out on me 16 minutes into the race. I'd made it up and down Chilliad too, I was gutted. Loads of fun though, amazing to be a part of it all. I'd do it again in a heart beat. Thanks Broughy. 👍
Thanks to Broughy and the 8th Gear server staff for making such a race possible. It was great being part of it, even though my own race was a disaster. I just couldn't find a car that could climb Chilliad and died once on the way up. The race winner finished before I had reached the Chilliad CP the first time, and Broughy's push on the railway bridge was probably the fastest I was going the whole race.
getting a car _immediately_ on derfG side was so crucial to my race, even tho i choked when deciding to take the hotlap descent instead of elevator descent the first time, could'v easily been in the top 5 with my form but oh well! still great fun and i did not expect 8th :D
It's cool seeing entire sections just filled with people. First split between "Start - Airport" and "Finish - Chiliad", then slowly coming together on "Quarry - Airport" and then splitting up again. Later on it seems a bit more chaotic, I guess because the gaps increase. It might have been cool to have differently colored dots for the two groups, to see even better how they mix. The best way to record something like this would probably be to save the raw coordinates and then overlay it afterwards in whatever format/size/highlighting scheme you want. Like it could e.g. highlight the race winner (which obviously you can't know beforehand) or whatever other player you want to track. But that would be quite a bit more involved than just pointing OBS at the live map of course.
It's fun to see the whole map and notice those who played for the first time Gfred and didn't knew the route... I hope some day I'll have the chance to be one of those dots hehehe
I made it into the first few crashes but missed out on the full race. Had fun organizing though. You can see me right as the first crash is happening in the beer hat! Lol
21:08 That might be the most wedged looking cars I've ever seen in this game. How do you even get stuck sideways, then flip and land on someone else who's sideways?
Wow, what a race! But could we please have a designated player picking up a chopper and record the carnage from the air on this kind of GFREDs? I want to see the massive scope of this, and the carnage. Like a race livestream.
Top of chilliad and the airport jump was pure carnage when we finally got going. I can only imagine the chaos if it was the full 350+ we had the first few attempts.
I wonder.. Did Kand survive the drop off point at the observatory? I bet it was like waking up in the middle of a nascar track during a race. Cars was just speeding all over the place. Also F.. ;-; Pizza rejected.
Madness.... Absolute glorious mother-truckin' madness!! Bravo Oh and one for the Dad Joke file maybe? "My wife didn't believe that I could make a car out of spaghetti, until I drove pasta." ,-)

The longer these get, the more I appreciate NEVER seeing mid-roll ads on your channel

This Gfred was *ab-so-lutely insane!* You're all in for a treat, people 😁
Indeed.
Watched it. Loved it. So many close calls. 10th & 11th place finished less than 1/2 a second within each other.
very unlucky end to my lead, solid 2:30 minutes time loss
GGs, I feel for Cyptex. What a frustrating position to die in :(

I have been waiting for this. Let the madness begin.
Wow, just an intense brutal, but wonderful to watch clusterstuff. I doubt anyone at R* expected there to ever be this many people in a single server.
I love seeing the fast moving dots on the freeway and between chilliad and airport and the slow moving dots on chilliad
Fantastic. What a time to be alive.
This was so much fun, my first Gfred ever, alot harder than it looks died like 3 times 😅
21:08 That might be the most wedged looking cars I've ever seen in this game. How do you even get stuck sideways, then flip and land on someone else who's sideways?

RBS is simply constructed in a non-standard fashion
This is when next gen consoles really need more players, especially when the car meet has like 75 car spots
This was great to watch live and thanks for Katie's Gfred pin ❤
It would be interesting to experiment what the optimal player count is for a GFRED in terms of enjoyment
That last graph was goofy woofy, but seriously rip goofy woofy
That hail mary was perfect!
All those crashes Broughy, see this is why you shouldn't drive at night when your headlights are smashed to pieces.
