  • Thank you for stopping by and welcome to my new channel where I'll be exploring my dry garden cultivars including agaves, cactus and other succulents. In today's episode, I'll be making a garden-safe solution for treating agaves to stop the spread of mealy bugs. I'll go over my techniques for mixing the solution, using a small paintbrush to physically remove the pests and applying the mixture to the agaves.
    **Pest Control Solution**
    • 2 cups (500ml) of water
    • 1 cup (250ml) of 70% isopropyl alcohol
    • 1 tsp (5ml) neem oil
    • 10 drops liquid dish soap
    • Add mixture to spray bottle and shake
    • Use small brush to remove mealy bugs
    • Spray infected areas with solution
    • Repeat as needed
    • Good luck!
Whether you're a seasoned horticulturist or an agave hobbyist like me or just a little curious about these awesome plants, I hope to be able to offer a little bit of something for everyone. I love working with these beautiful plants, I hope you enjoy the video!

I've never seen mealy bugs, but it's good to know what to do if this happens. Dawn soap is good for a lot of pests, like white flies and aphids and probably other bugs as well.

I use my old soft bristle toothbrushes. I really don’t seem to have much of a mealy bug issue on my Agaves - but I do get infestations on lots of my other succulents .I have read that ants will actually physically move the pests around

Ants definitely do that. I've seen them carry mealy bugs from badly infected plants to neighboring plants that rarely attract pests

It's in the description but I'll drop it here too. My rare stuff sells out quickly; I typically post on IG after I've added rare agaves and they go fast: www.etsy.com/shop/PalaceofSpineArts

2:09 I say it's all natural, isopropyl alcohol and Dawn dish soap is not natural but safe for the plants.
