    Growing up as a teenager in the 80s was awesome. Movies like Iron Eagle were popular because our military had been rebuilt after a period of neglect. The awesome aerial footage was what helped the success of this movie. Much like Top Gun's aerial footage made up for the plot as well.

    • @tomservo5347
      @tomservo5347 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup. After Vietnam our military really slid downhill. Enter President Reagan that started pouring billions into defense spending (that bankrupted the Soviets) to revamp our military. Fighter pilots were mythical beings with godlike powers to grade school boys like me. Then again, anyone wearing a uniform were heroes to us as I remember woodland camouflage pants were popular with us boys. I remember my 'Top Gun' inspired imitation leather flight jacket with patches I begged my mom to buy at Wal-Mart.

    He couldn't, due to the rules of the race: he was restricted to *50 ft AGL*, which helps to explain the flaps, and also explains the aerobatics when flying over the mountains (only way to keep from exceeding 50 ft vertical separation from the terrain). Notcher may have broken the rules, but Doug sure wasn't going to.

    C.W. That was awesome, keep up the great content.
    On a more serious note, I had about 600 hours in FSX/P3D and XP11 before I started flying lessons, and the time did help, but when you actually step foot in a real aircraft and are handed that responsibility with real consequences its an entirely different feeling, so the DCS comments you made really made me laugh at how true it is.

    This movie is infallible. I binged all 4 iron eagle movies and they're all amazing. My two favorite things are
    1: The snappy 80's "my father is going to be executed but let's have fun while we stop it" montage in this movie and
    2: Sonny Chiba's character doing a kamakaze attack to help stop the nazi-run Peruvian drug operation.
    Yes, Iron Eagle 3 has ww2 aircraft from multiple countries, manned by stereotypes from those countries, armed with modern armaments, fighting in 90's South America against a Nazi running a drug operation. It's absolutely amazing.

      Flight of the Intruder: I read the book, first. I thought it was awesome. Then I saw the movie and almost couldn't bear to watch it all, it was so bad. The casting was wrong and the story mostly trashed. Or so I thought. The image that haunts me the most was Willem Dafoe sitting in the pilot's seat of an A-6 he just crashed in. In the book, it was a 'Sandy' pilot in an A-1 Skyraider...more believable. Mover, ruin this movie, please! :)

    • @csdigitaldesign
      @csdigitaldesign 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I get why people want to call them Vipers... the pilots call them that (it was suppose to be the original name) and kept calling them that because they didn't like the official name given to the F-16. That official name is Fighting Falcon. So if you want to tell somebody you would prefer to call it a Viper (and I'm fine with that it sounds cooler if you ask me).. take it as that.. a preference. You shouldn't call them wrong however because it was officially called the Falcon by the military brass. Anyways regarding the name of the movie... I agree it's dumb to call it Iron Eagle and then use Falcons / Vipers. lol.

    I'm a Cessna pilot, and I especially liked the race scene between the Aerobat and the dirt bike. Even with 20 degrees of flap the pilot was struggling to stay slow enough to stay in frame. Even in that configuration it's doing about 50 knots in ground effect. I did a foolish but cool thing once- I did a low level run up a remote river valley in an '81 Cessna 172. I was surprised at how fast 100 knots looked from 500 feet above the riverbed! A couple of fishermen flipped me the bird as I roared by them from the opposite bank, so I must have violated the 'no douche' rule, oops, my bad..rookie mistake I guess... Iron Eagle is cheesy enough to turn popcorn into poutine, but still, it's classic 80's, and I love it! Great commentary, Mover, I needed a good laugh! Things suck for me right now, so I need all the help I can get.
