I enjoyed both of these videos very much.Great creative learning experience! I think I (ever so slightly) prefer the version on white paper as the trees have more definition. Thank you for both of these. That inexpensive paint is pretty impressive.
I always look forward to your Sunday tutorials! And the ‘cheap as chips’ metallic paints used on your birches experiments are gorgeous! Both the white and black paper efforts look great…I really don’t have a favorite. I appreciate all the tips/ bright ideas you’ve shared in your process.
I prefer the black birch trees. It’s seems more dramatic and the metallics seems to pop more. They have more depth. Well done Liz. I also enjoy how you showed us the difference and using multiple techniques for desired effects. Have you done a tut using cold press and hot press to show the difference? Maybe new painters would benefit from that tut too.
Hullo Liz! I liked your metallic paintings. I know that everyone has back seat drivers/painters! I apologize for mine in advance. I have enjoyed some success with colored papers when I use a lighter color of gouache under my metallic paints, not always white but a similar shade of the metallic color I wish to show on top. I found that it even works on white paper. A deep red under a metallic red showing glitter or pearlescent shades. Thank you for sharing your wonderful tip n tricks. Please take care, be safe and enjoy your lovely day!
Not at all. it’s a really valid point. 😊 when I use gold leaf I put a colour under it and it’s the same idea. Here, I was wanting to only use the colours in the set to see what could be done with £1 colours. but if I was using the ‘properly’, I think an underpainting would make a huge difference. thank you!
I loved watching this video. I've got some black watercolour paper and wondered if you have found any other colour/types of paint that work on it, so far I've only used white.
@@LizChadertonStudioThankyou so much again for your response. I followed another professional artist for a few years and never recieved a reply. I have become a big fan of yours and am working my way through you tutorials. I already had your book on Animals in watercolour and am now waiting delivery of your other three books.
Genius with the masking tape trick (straight edges toward each other)!
😂 glad I have the occasional good idea!
the black version is so good!
I like the black one too…a bit more drama
WowZer! So cool watching it unfold. Thank you!❤
Glad you enjoyed it!

That’s a great idea. To be honest, I rarely use HP, I am rather prejudiced against it. Comparing them would be good for me too.
Love this Liz! Can't wait to try it!!! As always, thanks for sharing your research.
Have fun!
very clever thank you for sharing
You are so welcome!
Love it! I just purchased a pallet of metallics. This will be a wonderful tutorial to follow to give them a try. Many thanks!😎🎉🥰
It’s a nice work out to get to know your paints

what’s nice to do is a white wash and float transparent colours in on top

@@kathleenthompson1569 ☺ Hope you enjoy them!
I see copper trees, not birch trees. I love everything else you’ve done by the way.
The copper is the light in the background.....guess it depends on how one views it....almost like a ink blot test
It’s funny how our eyes and brains work. We all see the same thing with our eyes and our brains tell us something different.
Great analogy. The human brain is complicated!
