Jocko, Echo and Mike, another brilliant podcast, thank you again for another belter. Since I first heard you on Rogan, then Tim Ferris, I've been working my way through all your episodes. I listen with headphones at work while i'm cutting grass or building things. I listen on my drives here and there. I listen while i'm "trying" to fall asleep. I listen in the shower. I listen basically anytime I can get away with it. You are a standout my brother. A man among heroes as you have said. You have somehow managed to cut through all the white noise/messy distractions in my mind and consistently delivered sincere, honest and enlightening brilliance. I am starting the book Extreme Ownership tonight !!! Thank you Jocko, thank you Echo. You guys are my go to when I need to feel. Love, respect and heartfelt appreciation for your work.
Good morning from the rolling green hills of Ireland. I thank God that it's a beautiful day of self reflection and for getting after it! God speed to you all.
When Mike said "I am so happy you are home" I got chills up and down my body. Just the raw emotion I can feel through these words that aren't even packed full of emotion, just...man. What a community the SEALs and their families have.
I know you probably won't read this Jocko, and even if you do, you probably get this kind of stuff every day; but I would like to thank you for all that you have taught me. I have listened to all of your podcasts now, and it has only increased my resolve to become a member of the band of Brothers and warriors that create our military. I have known all my life I have wanted to become some kind of special forces member, but I never knew witch one, my father wanted to join, but could not fight since he lost an eye when he was 14, and my grandfather fought as captain for the Marines in Vietnam. I have had my eyes aimed on the Navy seals for years now, but I'm going to honor my heritage as a Marine and join the Recon Marines. I am training every day, and have my asvab score high enough, and aim to take it again and get even higher, I also have been calculating my pft score every day for a full year and am up to 275, and hope to get it up to 300 by the time I get to boot camp. I cannot thank you enough for what you have taught me both through your podcasts and the books you have recommended, but I am going to try to honor you, and all the members of the special forces teams out there by fighting, and "EMBRACING THE SUCK." Thank you Jocko
10th Mountain Officer here (2/30 Infantry, FOB Loyalty). Worked with Mike and his guys during March/April 08. They are the most outstanding group of warriors I've ever met. It was every bit as bad as he said and those guys changed the entire face of the war in Sadr City. Couldn't have done it without you bro. Glad to see you again!
It went away 6 weeks into their deployment before they decided to stop fighting, and the rest of the time they were chilling in Iraqi gyms? Is that how it was?
Hey Jocko/Echo, just got turned onto you about 2 weeks ago, already listened to EO audiobook and up to podcast 20 on my catchup. Im a rough around the edges crossfit firebreather type but im not afraid to say your podcasts regularly bring tears to my eyes, especially this one. Never served, which I am now ashamed of, but Mike's account of Mikey Monsoor's heroism has touched me as deep as it gets. Getting after it isnt just the least I can do for him and you all but is a DEBT I believe we all owe. Much love, respect & especially gratitude for your podcast.
Tears flow listening to these hero stories. I am a mature guy who religiously works out and these stories buckle my knees. Damn anyone who disrespects our flag. I don't give a shit if it is their right or not. It's not right because of our military heroes. I owe all the freedom I have to all in the military past and present.
It just demonstrates how traditional high school is a waste of time for many. Tim Kennedy says the US armed forces are having a tough time recruiting due to high obesity levels and low academic achievement. How about creating US military high schools, completely voluntary, and identify all the kids who are like Jocko and Mike. After 4 years of this High school you will have fit and smart soldiers ready to serve! Every branch can have their own high schools.
Love the podcast! I enjoy every one that y’all make, but I absolutely love when you interview people. When you have someone sitting next to you, telling their story, it gives a certain emphasis on what they’re trying to convey, and makes it more interesting as a listener. Keep up the great work and get more people on!
Hand on heart, respect and thank you for sharing the story of Mr. Monsoor and his heroic sacrifice. Words do not describe....... Grateful for this Podcast.... Thank you all.....
You are heroes, like it or not, take it as it is. You are heroes. We owe you everything! Risking your lives for total strangers without hesitation, in fact hoping to go into harms way to do it. Civilians can't ever understand, me included. Thank you Jocko, Echo and Mike. I love everyone of our military past and present. Tears flowing.
This is probably the fifth episode I’ve listened to since I listened to the two JRE podcasts Jocko has been on. All I gotta say is I’m psyched this guy has a podcast. I can’t get enough of this shit!
Fuckin love you Jocko, your podcasts get me through work with relative ease, and has prepared me to get after it when I go to Basic Training in August 👍👍👍 keep on keeping on
What an awesome podcast. Wish he coulda shared more about Devgru ops. I read "Fearless" some years ago so when he mentioned Adam Brown I realized he made it to Dam Neck. I understand tho. Classified.

I've almost always been let down, I've dealt with brutes and bullies most of my adult life. Everyone has a universal right to say whatever they want. PLEASE do not bargain with things that do not exist.
Correction, the first amendment is freedom of expression of opinion by various different means that include speech. BUT it is not an absolute right to make whatever statement you want. "Bargaining with shit that doesn't exist" is threatening to do things that you've already done or are inevitably going to do anyway. A lot of American society is clearly in a repressive state of denial in which they convince themselves that their is a gray area that DOES NOT exist. You can't say you're going to do things to hurt people. You can't encourage or incite violence. Chances are good I could probably delete the previous comment and it will be gone. I'm not removing it. If what you say about "extreme ownership" is to have any meaning (at least in my own situation) then I'm keeping it there to serve as a reminder towards not regressing into a self justifying type of immaturity. I fear all day long and I fear everything, it gets so bad that I become fearless and end up doing stupid shit to prove I'm not scared. This all started after I left my old life and work. I can't sleep at night sometimes three nights or more a week. I get angry for nothing and argue with myself and never win. Only peace I find is when I view guys like this, I'm too old to rejoin a dangerous job and too young to die.
Fear can be healthy, it's a sense of doing something that's unknown, unfamiliar. It can be your greatest period of growth moving past the fear and accomplishing a task that you once were fearful to tackle. Yea lol you could tell Jocko wasn’t too thrilled that he said that on the podcast... kind of a selfish move tho you can also see where he’s coming from, having just lost a friend he wanted revenge for Mikey’s death.
"unmitigated discipline in all things", and the strength to listen to one of the worst days of your life repeatedly from different people who knew Michael Monsoor. This is why Jocko has the best podcast, it takes courage and strength to know the darkness. "Hardcore recondo" - "No Fucking slack!!" Go get some

I’d love for you to do a podcast on the book “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. I think you’d do an amazing job of analyzing it from your perspective.
Maybe my favourite book. The movie didn’t do it justice.

Kirk: Damn it, Bones, you're a doctor. You know that pain and guilt can't be taken away with a wave of a magic wand. They're the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves. I don't want my pain taken away! I need my pain!
Thats pretty messed up that he would switch the names for who was going to which platoon
