I made this at my grandmas house with some scrap 4x4s and got the metal ties and built it... it worked GREAT, the bench isn't just good for weights but even just using it to hold stuff and wood if you need to. I am so happy I found this video, Thank you so much for making it simple, it was awesome.

I've been wanting to build a weight bench rather than go out and buy one.I am actually a carpenter and I had mulled over a few different ideas . So I decided to check TH-cam just for kicks. I really like this guy's design and the sturdiness of it ! The sheer manliness of it...lol ! I'm going to build mine just like this ! Thank you Sir !

OK, I pretty much followed your plan, with a few modifications, such as using a 48" x 11.5" x 1" stair board, and a 2x4 for the top long brace between the legs and another 2x4 for a bottom.brace between.the feet. Simpson braced and screwed the heck out of it, a simple rock solid bench.

This is a nice improvement over the buff dudes design and should support even more weight. Before you call it a copy, pay attention to the fact that his base is longer and the supports go under the base to support it instead attaching to the sides. Since bench pressing puts most of the weight over one of these supports, this is a better idea since less stress is put on the ties and lateral stress is much less than vertical stress with how this is used. I can also agree with not bothering to pad the bench.
