My teenage daughter saved up and bought a used Toyota Avalon from a friend of ours and she was very sad when we turned on the sound. Found this kit and it was easy and worked great! Excellent product and easy to install with these videos. Sounds amazing now, and saved her from having to spend more money to buy a new sub (which she didn't have after saving up for her car). Thank you Simply Speakers! I would definitely recommend!
I almost threw away 2 sets of Boston Acoustic home speakers and found this company... I was able to repair all my speakers for $50!!! Thanks guys, the product was great and your customer service is amazing! Highly recommend to anyone needing to replace their foam or other speaker parts!
Great Product ! It will save you Hundreds of dollars. I never would have thought to try this myself but after watching the video I thought why not give it a try. It worked out Great. To replace it would have cost over $400.00. I did it for $23.00 and a few hours of my time. It's very easy to do, just take your time. The easiest way to remove Sub Assembly from rear deck is to use a utility knife and trim off about 1/2 inch on each side. It will slide right out, To remove 3rd taillight assembly just pull straight back toward seat. Keep it Flat Don't lift it up until you hear a Click, locking tabs are about 4 or 5 inches from back of the Cover. closet to back window. Disconnect taillight, Trim 1/2 inch off on each side, 10mm Socket 4 bolts, ITS OUT ! This was so simple to do. Thank You Speaker Repair. This is a Great Money Saver. I'm telling a lot of people about this stuff.
Loved the video!! So glad I was able to repair it and didn’t ruin the car by putting another sub in there. THANK YOUUUUU! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Hello from California Just bought a 03 Avalon XL with 31k original miles from original owner
Great video! I have ZERO speaker experience but after ordering the kit and watching this video, I was able to fix the speaker myself without any issues. The hardest part was removing and reinstalling the speaker. I had to cut about a 1/4" off the corner of the wood deck in order to slide the speaker back in. It sounds great now! Thanks SimplySpeakers!
Like this video, one of the rear speakers in my 2001 Camry Solara has a slight rattle, maybe this type of repair will fix it also.👍 Thanks for the professional presentation & unlike many others, no silly background music to distract from the project.💖
Jack, You must purchase this special JBL subwoofer from Toyota. Last time we checked, they were around $300. We suggest doing the repair (like we show in the video). It will save you a lot of money and is easy to do!
Thank you for your excellent customer service on this repair kit. The video demonstration is excellent; so much so, that I did not even have to open the instruction pages that came with the kit.
This video made the process really easy. I'm mechanically a 3/10 and still I finished this project on my 2003 Avalon in a few hours. Luckily you don't have to remove the rear deck to get at the subwoofer, just lift out the rear brake light fixture, there's 10mm bolts and it pulls out. He's not kidding about the messy part - get in there and clean that thing up! Thanks for making this video. Is there a break in period for the rebuilt subwoofer?
looks very easy. I'm gonna have my mom order some replacements for her toyota sequoia and install them for her soon. Both fronts have gone bad. I just wished you guys made a foam replacement for the front mids cuz those have stiffened on ours and make the mids sound weird.
Excellent video. I mean really good. Step by step and well made. Thank you. Could have used seeing the cover and speaker removal from the car but I can watch this and feel comfortable repairing my own.
3.7 is a typical single 4 ohm speaker impedance, but, the stock driver is very efficient and has a unique sound signature that will be hard to match with an aftermarket driver.
JBL AC250 doesn’t have screws on Avalon 2008 limited. The plastic trim piece is glued to top of the foam. Otherwise great videos and parts. Fixed speaker for the car. No more rattle.
First remove the plastic top for the middle taillight that covers the woofer. Make sure to disconnect the taillight wire and it should come free. Second, remove the 4x 10mm bolts around the woofer. Third is the tricky part. Very similar to the Operation board game, you have to jiggle the woofer up and out. The instructions on the Simply Speakers website are more detailed and better. Hope this helps!
I agree that getting the speaker out of the rear deck is a bit of a hassle. I finally, after not being able to get it back in, opened up the rear deck panel with a utility knife. Didn't cut into the area where the cover goes down and on, but did remove about 1/4" along one side, and opened up the cut outs for the front tabs. I didn't take that much out, and now I can just lift the unit in and out very easily.
I want to thank you for this video. I just purchased a used Avalon and the subwoofer was exactly as you described here. In addition, the cone was separated from the basket. I looked online for a replacement speaker, and came across this video instead. So, after watching this, and after pulling out my speaker out of the car and examining it, I ordered a cloth kit and will probably be installing this next weekend, if not a bit earlier. The video was clear and concise and easy to follow along. I look forward to having good, full range sound again in the vehicle. I do have one question. I used a bit of SuperGlue to glue the cone (the yellow/oragne part) back to the frame. It shouldn't be hard to remove it, if necessary. My question is should I have used the SuperGlue, (I wasn't thinking about it when I reinstalled it), or should I remove it and use the glue that comes in the kit? EDIT: The new surround arrived today. I purchased the cloth instead of the rubber. It says in the video that there's a small indexing mark on the surround, but there isn't one on the cloth one (I don't know if it's been removed from the rubber one). Makes no difference. The surround went on perfectly, the glue dried up just fine. I was doing something else, so the speaker sat and the glue dried for about 2 hours before I put it back in the car. The only thing I really had issues with was getting the speaker in and out of the car, I had to trim back the parcel shelf around the speaker just a little bit to make it easier to get the speaker in and out. If you are looking to repair the speaker in your car, I highly recommend SimplySpeakers and the products they sell. This was easy to do, and the bass was back in my car without the buzz and vibration of a bad speaker, all without having to spend $300 or more for a new speaker for that car. Kudos to Simply Speakers for an easy to follow video, easy to use product, and one that works!
for me the ring around the paper cone did not come off this easily... I worked at it pretty good to try and scrape off all the sticky stuff... cone buckled a couple times during that process and I was afraid to use alcohol on it... I finally just glued it without getting all that stuff off. It worked fairly well after installation, but there was still buzzing with certain fat bass sounds...(the end of Kiss' "Black Diamond" for instance) I took it back out and the inner part around the cone wasn't quite sticking well. So if you're going to do this, make sure to get that outside ring of the paper cone real clean before glue-ing. I ended up just putting in a new sub for about $70. This isn't quite right for the JBL amp in the car as I don't think it's got a lowpass filter there, but all the distortion is gone. (eventually I'll put in a mono amp just for it... and I think it'll sound as good or better than the original)
Great tutorial!! After the first rebuild of the speaker, will this aftermarket glue come off just as easy as the original adhesive used from the factory for the second rebuild?
Thanks so much for the video.i have done the cleaning part, but as I was removing the strip of foam off of the cone, i believe I have removed a layer of cone too. Should I continue or have i ruined my speaker.
Hi, my 2009 Avalon the rear speaker start making rattling noise , do you think there is something lose or the speaker it self have problem as it show in the video?
i need to replace the subwoofer in my moms 2001 avalon it is the JBL factory subwoofer THAT CAME WITH THE CAR,what DO you suggest for a good but not costly to replacement
Depends on cost and availability. Most of these older JBL units are either very expensive or no longer available so repair makes more sense in those cases.
Hi! My brother is having an issue where the speaker partially works but it vibrates a lot and makes a lot of bass-like noise when the volume is raised past 5 or so. Would this be the kind of distortion you mention in the video? Can you let me know if this would certainly fix it? Thanks!
I'm replying to update that I did purchase soon after posting and it has been working out well. I was a bit iffy on it, but I'm glad you're the real deal. Thanks!
Does your shop demagnetize then re-magnetize the speaker magnets and or recenter the magnet pole? I am winding coils in jigs to do the usual musical instrument 12" speakers. I watched a guy at the only recone shop in town recone a speaker on a small cart while people swarmed around him with all kinds of crap in their arms. I know I can do better. I worked for Speakerwerks in the 1980s. A clean work area is paramount. I hear paper tearing. LOL T'is the only way! Nice job! I'd use your shop!
Hello, I purchased a refoam kit for my 2000 Avalon, the foam was completely gone, is this still going to be worthwhile? Is the absence of any foam going to have destroyed the subwoofer? It did have some bass coming out of it, just not a good thump type of sound,
Thanks for the confidence boost, I have completed the re-foam, I was concerned about no foam at all being there. The sub seems responsive, I watched up from the trunk with the bass cranked up and it moves freely and well in its suspension. So far so good.
I fixed some JBL floor standers using these kits. Only problem was the glue soaked through the paper and made some darker areas in some spots. The glue needs ventilated area lol the smell is strong until it dries. Afterwards it works fine!
had a question before ordering this from you guys, when you took the speaker off the bracket (speaker facing up, like in the video), there is a round foam ring on the bottom of the base, mine fell off, does that affect the speakers performance?
Pretty sneaky using 3.7 Ohms instead of the standard 4. It sounds like something an American car company would do. Forcing you to buy stock parts at full price. At any rate it worked and everything was reassembled without anything breaking or missing. I was surprised. Just getting the damn thing in and out of the car was a challenge.
Not Trying To Troll You But Why Not Buy A Newer Speaker With Better Technology & More Durable Materials. What Is The Benefit In This Other Than Maybe Saving Money?
In many cases, new speakers will not work in the existing set up. The repair kit is a great way to save some money and keep the system sounding its best. :)

This worked perfectly! I have absolutely no experience doing repairs like this, and it wasn't hard at all! The sound is great now :)
This video was fantastic. I just repaired the blown speaker on my 2000 Avalon, and the bass is pumping! Thanks SimplySpeakers!
I’ve had my back Avalon speaker off for 3 years! So glad I found this video and the repair kit. Worked great. Awesome video too!
Thanks for watching!
Wish I would have known about this kit sooner been about 3 years with blown subwoofer too
really do appreciate you guys for stocking this kit and this great tutorial video!

Fixed the horrible distortion I was getting and also made the bass sound much better overall. Great video and shipping on the part was fast.

Thanks for this video. I cleaned the glue off with carb cleaner . Works better then the alcohol.
Great tip!
This repair video showed me everything I needed to fix the rear speaker in my 2000 Avalon. Great Job!

Excellent repair for a high quality speaker. Returned audio to it's original performance. Thank You.
Terrific "how-to" video. Nice camera work as well.
Sure is, among the most professional TH-cam videos I've seen!👍 No background music, perfect camera placement, no wasted motion.

Yes how did you get it apart? I think I have the same problem

You can use the super glue. No need to take it apart to use our glue for the spider.
Thanks for the awesome video. Is there a specific type of glue I should use?
We supply a special adhesive in our kits for the repair.

Yes it will.
Excellent instructional video

We will need to see the cone edge. Can you email a photo to us?
Is this the same product for the 86160-AC250? 2007 Avalon
Yes! Same kit for the AC250. Thanks!
Would this solve the issue when the radio has no sound?
No, I am afraid not.
Thanks for this just ordered
I'm gonna try it
Thank you for making the video I ordered it through you and it's coming to me hopefully within 5 days

How long do you advise to wait before using the subwoofer after finishing the glue job?
2 to 3 hours is good.
Great video, extremely helpful, thanks!
Awesome video, thanks! Checking out your web site next!
***** Nice!
Thank you I just ordered one for my 2003 Avalon
Working on this project today, will let you know how it goes :D
Yes, please se our website "How To" link for details on removal. Thanks!
What's the thoughts on doing this repair vs replacing the oem speaker?
Depends on cost and availability. Most of these older JBL units are either very expensive or no longer available so repair makes more sense in those cases.
I wonder do that have a replacement upgrade to this speaker?
We only carry the repair kits. Sorry.
Excellent video. Thanks

Yes. Please see the "how to" link at the top of our website for details on removing the subwoofer from the car. Thanks!
Excellent Video. Perfect
What year vehicle was this removed from?
2004 Toyota Avalon
I fixed some JBL floor standers using these kits. Only problem was the glue soaked through the paper and made some darker areas in some spots. The glue needs ventilated area lol the smell is strong until it dries. Afterwards it works fine!
Which is the foam measure for this oneJBL subwoofer?
See part # FSK-7M-Toyota on our website at www.SimplySpeakers.com for all the dimensions. Thanks!
wow... you work it out nicely! :D
had a question before ordering this from you guys, when you took the speaker off the bracket (speaker facing up, like in the video), there is a round foam ring on the bottom of the base, mine fell off, does that affect the speakers performance?
This is more of a dust seal than anything. Make a new one from foam tape or re-glue the original back in place if you still have it.
how do u take the speaker out the rear on a 2005 toyota avalon
Please visit the FAQ page on our website for full details.
Thank you!!
Will this work for any speaker? I am not sure if this is problem with my rear speaker in my 2004 Avalon XL. Do you sell a kit for this vehicle?
I believe the mechanic said the speaker was blown but not sure what that meant. There is still sound coming from it but it sounds terrible.
Yes, the issue will most likely be the foam surround. Order kit # FSK-8M-Toyota from our website. Thanks!
Thank you very much...
Thanks!
Hello do you have a repair kit for 06 Toyota Avalon rear sub roofer?
