Yo, that's me.
Also, what you said about Minecraft is very true. The whole reason it got popular is that the game is more fun to play with other people, and to share info online which is a very solid way to start a community around a game.
How did this devolve from a discussion on how the community grew close over time due to the gamets poor design to lucas begging people not to beat their kids💀
Don't forget the fact that we have to deliberately lose to view the entire list of enemies on an undiscovered stage
This game would probably be completely unplayable without the wiki.
Like cmon, every other defense game lets you see the enemy list before the stage, and just because you know what’s coming doesn’t mean you’ll win.
Me: *goes in a random ass leve with no criters*
Random Super Metal Hippoe: G'day mate
I don't sure about that, i mostly lose under 5 times on hard stage so not too annoying, and i think undiscovered enemy is cool, like add suprise to it.
@@Hefisa-mb9tt5 times for a 200 energy stage meaning you get 1 stage a day?
This is so true. In all our older episodes we went in blind every time and for the most part got destroyed. Between finding out about the wiki and people commenting on strats to use in stages, it made us much better players. Without the community, I'm not sure I would've kept playing, and now I absolutely love the game.
A game that doesn't hold your hand has become so rare nowadays, the tutorial is basically "Tap on boxes, and not to mention we're a gacha game. Knock yourselves out."
Who knew that such a community would be made from that? This is a very close-cut community if we're being real.
@@wl-o8197maybe after eoc3 so then someone gets involved with the community first and then they can start doing things on their own.
@@SuperDestroyerFox show stats after EoC3 or before? After makes more sense as you can do 99% of EoC with basically zero game knowledge
Knowing the stats of a unit isn't exactly a "holding your hands" type of thing. Look at games like metal slug attack. That has detailed info of every unit and it doesn't even make the game any easier but it helps you build a cohesive team without making you waste energy
The Battle Cats wiki forever tainted my mind on what a wiki should be like. I go to other games that have shit wiki or wiki that just aren't as good and I'm appalled. The only other wiki I've seen that is clean and useful like Battle Cats is the Terraria and its Calamity Mod wiki
The don't starve wiki is also like this, and it is also a game that gives very little information (ignoring scrapbook cuz that's newish)
There are some good Pokemon wikis out there like Bulbapedia, any that isn’t Fandom…
This is why I love Battle Cats! It's nice to form a community where everyone are so into the game and sharing strategies, experience etc.
Kinda ironic how Ponos doesn't show stats in battle cats which made the community grow yet they do show stats in Kitaro and look where it is now
Me teaching my friends that treasure bonuses aren’t just bonuses and are basically needed for progression
You can use any cat with freeze abity at least two to beat bun bun with eases
@@JesterTubby-so9bmso i raged so hard for nothing you son of a bhich
It's quite funny you mention this cause kitaro delivers in game stats and it's enemy dictionary has a way better ui. Got all enemies icons next to and below each other. Want to know what this enemy does? Click on his icon and BOOM their full animations and stats at 100% magnification. When going in a stage you can even click on the enemy icons and it shows their magnification on that stage alongise the stats that belong to that magnification. I think you bringing up camelle is a brilliant example as her stage encourages you to use a tanker like titan, but you wouldn't imagine doing that cause you saw the dmg she delivered to your base not knowing she had base destroyer.
Oddly enough, the thing that introduced me to battle cats was an official add that had a simplistic stat screen like the one in the thumbnail. While I wasn't particularly offended that it was in the game it definitely caused me to using some really bad units until I finally gave in and started looking up stuff.
5:19 why did you have to tell the whole world my character development
Ive played Honkai star rail, Genshin, and Battle cats.
Out of the three, in which i have gotten to either lategame or endgame in all of them, i quit the two hoyoverse games,
Yet im still intrigued in playing battle cats, Which puzzles me sometimes.
Actually, in fact, out of all gacha games ive played, none have topped battle cats for me tbh
I've always hated gacha mechanics they're one of the original mobile game sins, one of the big reasons I'm still enjoying battle cats is because I can just totally ignore the gacha mechanic through seed tracking
To me at least, I like how battle cats doesn't really make uber's objectively better in every way compared to rares and super rares. They have their own strengths and weaknesses, and while there are outliers, in general, they actually feel very distinct. Makes it enjoyable when I can build armies using a variety of rarities and know I'm now handicpaing myself, but actually building a more effect army. Can't just bring 10 ubers to beat every stage (excluding early game stuff, and maybe some broken spammable ubers). You gotta bring some meatshields, and sometimes you need some cheaper midrange attackers and crowd controllers. I like that a lot honestly. I don't know how many gatchas put this much importance on distinguishing the different rarities without making the lower ones direct downgrades, but to me I like how Battle cats handles it.
Plus, the music slaps. Plain and simple. Like honestly why is Battle Cats music so good dude?
one of the first things i did was look up the stats of my cat units because i am so used to having this information presented to me in detail from other games.
I've always wondered why The Battle Cats never shows any stats ingame and you have to go to unofficial datamine websites to find them. It just feels a bit unprofessional and makes it hard to try new units without assuming "this is probably trash because I don't see people use it much". So every player sticks to the meta units that they know have good stats.
Even if The Battle Cats had something simple like "Damage" "Health" "Speed" "Utility" bars that rank units out of 10 when you check them like the thumbnail that would be SO helpful. Same with enemies in the enemy guide.
Yo how did this dude just explain the exact way i got into the community, through EoC chapter3 bun bun
---------- MINI ESSAY WARNING ----------
Honestly I disagree, I feel like the lack of viewable ingame stats was an overall negative thing to the size of the battle cats community.
While I do agree on your point that there would be generally less educational resources available for battle cats, I doubt it would remove them entirely. Take a game like Street Fighter 6, which has readily available lookups for character's frame data in their training mode, but it doesn't decrease demand for websites cataloguing each character's frame data. There will always be demand for things like websites and discord bots cataloguing stats because of their ease of use and not necessary because that is the only place you can get that information.
The game requires a decent amount of strategic thinking despite its simple gameplay loop, so even if it had viewable ingame stats, I don’t think many more people would be able to discover strategies like meathshielding without outside help. I’d argue something like seeding has had a bigger impact on guide makers than viewable ingame stats would ever have due to it making the game easier for the average player (I am not saying that seeding is a bad thing tho).
At least personally, I know so many players who quit the game at EOC Bun Bun because of the lack of communication the game gives you. During 2017, I think I had around 10ish friends playing the game but only 2 were able to get past Bun Bun. At the time I know that the ones who beat Bun Bun were semi active members of the wider battle cats community. Would that number have changed if the game had better communication? Would those players stick around longer and help grow the community?
Of course a lot of my "evidence" is anecdotal, but it goes to show that there is no telling if viewable ingame stats would have had an overall negative or positive effect on the battle cats communities growth.
i mean yeah of course the in-game stats isn't gonna completely remove the community entirely, but i do believe it's a pretty common driving force for people to find the bc community.
Plus fighting game is a naturally competitive and VERY complex game genre. Sure BC is pretty complex in its own rights but with certain proper ubers and lineups you're good to beat majority of stages without looking anything up if the game tells you which ubers does the most damage in the widest area (dasli phonoa lol)
PONOS realizing that they can get more community by making bad decisions 😈:
i was thinking about this a while ago and got the same conclusion lol. the "difficulty" and lack of information really started the community
For me, bc not revealing the stage’s enemies mainly led me to search wikis and join the discord as not knowing what a stage has and losing sucks so much
I have to agree like in 2010 i could not beat cahpter 1 moon and i uninstalled the game but 2 years later i saw youtube videos about all the stuff in the game like fight cyclones. Crazed cats, and saw these new enemys and learned how to meat shield. I kid you not it open so many things i did not see in the game at first and im glad i stuck with it till now
my intro to battle cats was a facebook ad a little over 8 years ago i think
And the dog never want to say i love you after.
This is very interesting indeed, myself wanting to make a game, this might inspire me to leave just some things out in the open, or have other resources that build upon the game itself (nothing that necessary to beat the game, but lore and such.)
Also, great parenting advice, I'll make sure to let my kids know who's to blame once I have them, jk jk.
Honestly i dont remember how i got into battle cats, it just... Appeared, you know?
That comment is eye-opening oh my goodness that's genius
I think the battle cats community would still grow if cat stats are provided, because you still need to look up strategy. You still need to look up enemy info too, probably the most important being the range and the kb count
I also found the community cause of bunbun
theres a dude that has been playing minecraft for years without looking anything up, no prior experience, completely blind and i dunno if hes even beat the dragon yet
i think the game wants you to make your own judgements on units based on your observation of how they work; that of course isn't feasible nor worth your time with most of the units in the game nowadays, but maybe because they didn't expect battle cats to grow so much, but since it is so big now, they are probably using wiki and youtube and stuff to build their community. im pretty sure the reason they haven't updated enemy dictionary at this point is that the wiki provides enough information already, but maybe they will idk.
This is the classic hard to swallow pills. By the way, in chinese, we have a saying "打是爱,骂是疼", which roughly translates to, "Beating is love, Scolding is (also love, but a different word for it)". We hate to admit it, but the lack of information really does help the community grow, and I find that a lot of games I like to play are like this, especially the main series games for Pokemon.
The Pokemon community is absolutely massive, and there are absolutely countless details hidden beneath the surface, which is part of what makes the community so massive to begin with.
But anyway, that's my rant. Hope you enjoyed the TED talk.
It's really funny that Lucas thinks that xskull making alot of ranking videos is wierd, people watch them, its the same with your returner mode videos. There's alot of em, but that's because people like them. Is this me trying to find an excuse because I watch those ranking videos? Yes, yes it is.
i still dont like the fact that the enemy dictionary isnt updated because you either have to scroll for the precise location of the enemy or search it up (look up stage if you dont know enemy name)
Since lucas told me to beat my kids he's graduated universitas , developed a cure to cancer , and become ultra galaxy cosmos!
Really good advice lucas 😄👍
2:29 I expected like 70 honestly but yeah they're ranking usually banners of all kids and do re-dos with true forms and new cats or bot
It's because Xskull has been making ranking videos for 5 years now, so there has been a ton of updated versions and like 80% of the videos are marked outdated
am i the only one who thinks battle cats should show overall stats for units like ''damage dealt'' or ''enemies killed''. something similar to what bloons have, but like across the whole game. thatd be so nice to show u which units u use the most and which perform the best
It has to be the friends we made along the way
4:40 peak Lucas IV quotes
Ngl, that what make battle cats so iconic lol
The enemy dictionary is like they took a bad UI joke and then actually did it.
yeah i agree with the enemy guide its very sloppy and unprofessional they should have it either separated into categories like enemy traits or in order of you unlocking them (first time seeing them).
I remember my very first battle cats account (3rd rn) and I did not know any bc online because I was like 6 and I got Thundia I think and I don’t even know where I found it
This is how i found the community
It would be funny if ponos add in enemy stats before the cat stats
True, i have no idea of the health of most non boss enemies due to the magnifications
I mostly just measure them in cancan hits lol
Interesting I never thought about that…
Welp if ponos would add a in-game stats I think they could use the cat, I mean as in the start of the game, in Korea, a cat kinda explains the background of how an battle works, and they could use that to explain.
And maybe they could put those “lessons” in settings
The thing I hate the most about the battle cats community is it feels like 80% of the videos about Battle cats have no voiceover and they expect me to just read a TH-cam video instead of just looking up the wiki. When most of the time I'm listening to TH-cam it's while I'm doing something else like driving or playing battle cats or cleaning and I can't be staring at the screen reading small text
Thank god the my gamatoto app exists
I got exposed to battle cats cause I got heavily obsessed with evangelion for about 4 weeks and it immediately recommended me battle cats cause of the evangelion event which made me fall in love with the game
Cant you just look the in-game stats on the game files?
I think that the reason we got so much revolutionary things in the war is because we needed to evolve, fight, adapt to the environment and we needed a reason to evolve to do a better way to win the war.
But what if we don’t need to evolve?, do we have to evolve?, I don’t want to, so I won’t…
I think a good idea would be to show stats like the first pvz game, vague words
The way I found out about bc was being a stupid kid, I looked up tiger backwards on TH-cam and found the legendary funny talking British man himself
I'm gonna be honest with you i got in the game when i heard godzilla was in it
i got itno battle cats by watching captain sauce (i had never even heard of this game before that)
dark souls is a prime example for taht
Battle Cats, where are the IN GAME RECOMMENDED CATS?! (and in-gane guides)
Guys, since i'm very stupid (idk how to use the wiki), can someone tell me the stats of a lvl 50 poseidon?
Hey Lucas thanks for the parenting tips
I've gotten into the game because of bashurverse
How I found the community was not something like EoC 3 moon. It was how to get the treasures for specific stages lol. Then youtube started recommending me tier lists, beginner guides and stuff
The reason of why I beat chapter 3 moon of eoc is because of 90 catfood and angry delinquent cat
Strange how Battle Cats has been out for like a decade but they still make the same mistakes and haven't made more QoL updates
They give one stat on cats the price
“Nuh uh its anime girls”
Battle Rats Infinite Jizo .exe
the battle stats!
the best game.
Since when were new players not supposed to know about meat shielding???? That’s so obvious for me
I'm more interested on how Ponos actually makes money from this game, as even their "premium" currency could still be easily obtain just by clearing stages
JP is a big spender on gacha games. I know one streamer who spent a whole 10k Cat Food trying to recruit Kasli. There are a lot of people like that. As long as you have a big dedicated JP fanbase, your gacha game will live another decade
idk man ponos is just weird like that
I mean viewing the stats aren’t really important unless you need a specifc stat to counter an enemy which isn’t really that often, you can just throw the unit out and see if they do good against their specific targets. Yes it is nice to know, but not as game breaking as we may think.
As for enemy guide, yes it definitely needs a rework with a “type” that you should be able to select to find specific ones, but instead, I’d prefer if you were just able to go to a stage, open the enemy list in specifc stage, and click the specific enemy you want to see the stats of in that stage, I feel like that would be much more useful.
Also perhaps they’ll just make an item that allows you to see a “health bar” of the boss in the stage you’re fighting
And if I recall, didn’t they literally put out a survey where people asked for such? Theres no way they just “didn’t see” the suggestions asking for these QOL updates, they know they could do it they just refuse to do so for some odd reason..
Maybe they could introduct levels or some specific visual changes for enemies with higher magnification than there base, because it suck to have ennemies that look exactly the same than previous ennemies, but can oneshot you.
The health bar thingy can be iffy since they sometimes use peons as the "boss". Sometimes the boss of the stage isn't even designated as a "boss" so it doesn't trigger a shockwave when it comes out.
sorry I ate the in game stats
I do you one better, WHERE THE FUCK IS LABYRINTH
How to grow a community for your game:
Step 1: Don't explain all the information in your game
Damn. I love all these first world problems videos about battle cats, listening to you rant is so funny while also bringing up really good points.
MINECRAFT MENTIONED!!!!
I mean does it really matter
Like with Non stat based units like Sanzo Shaman apple And Stuff like balaguga
Cause a newbie will just look at the stats of these guys and assume there just bad because of that
Battle rats
Careful engineer 92
Hard dolphin 91
100th like finally
778Th like! :D
why is there very little drama in cat game? only thing i think of is xskull ranking, xskull hacking and seedtracking
Hard dolphin 91
The other answer is simply battle cats just doesn't want us to know how bad most units actually are
Ponos casually flooding Japan due to all the sweat they produced after this
Corporate cover-up
5:54 YES they should just make it like the cat guide in a grid fasion and not this shit
Bro I was just talking about this to my friends
It is a strategy game but the only way to see there stats without looking it up is to go to a stage and see how much damage they do to the base and how many assassin bear hit they can take
This is further emphasized by anti trait abilities without seeing stats player can only assume there only useful against a trait for either dmg hp or cc
Example how long did it take you to find out how op can can is without seeing stats it looks like a useless cc unit which is further emphasized by evolution really showing off it’s higher slow chance
This can be said for seafear pizza and house wife to through a much lesser degree
MOST IMPORTANTLY there barely anyway to see how much range a unit has THIS IS CRAZY SINCE RANGE DEFINES A UNITS ROLE weather it’s dmg tanker or cc
You need to know if it’s melee midrange backliner or sniper
THE SADDEST PART is Ponos made a site that shows all units and enemy stats at any giving level talents or magnification just for it to not be implemented in the game
-for those who want to see stats at any given level go to the end of a units fandom page and click the link under reference and translate to your language
Also for the nail in the coffin thinks to a language barrier some unit’s descriptions/evolution information don’t even give players the right information such as psycho cat and octo
