I grew up on the shore for the first 20 yrs of my life and climbed Rangitoto countless times for school trips , great to see the old stomping ground’s, watching from Okinawa Japan 👍🏻
Hey Colin that’s awesome! The Shore must have been so different 20 years ago, I’ve read many forums about how good the Snapper fishing from the rocks used to be. Japan is top of my list! Have wanted to go there all my life I’ll have to make it happen!
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit , check out Okinawa on the internet, I think you would love it . Near my house you can catch Mahi Mahi and other deep sea fish from the rocks . 2 spare rooms here bro if you need a place to stay 👍🏻
Yes it is , the fishing co-opt control the seas and yell and scream to the law when anyone does something that makes their work harder , because they use the argument of less fish for them to catch to feed the population 🙄 . Lots of people still do spear fishing but are just cautious not to advertise their catch when they make their way in .
hey ollie for your next mission you should take a smoker and smoke up a kahawai for dinner or lunch. thanks love your vids so much definitely inspired me to get in the water more
Hey Ollie! Shot my first fish last weekend. Can’t remember last time I was that stoked. A nice Pollock from Lofoten Norway. Baked it in the oven with some garlic butter and vegetables. Best meal I’ve had! I’ve learnt so much from your videos and I just wanted to thank you for the effort you put in and the tips and tricks you sometimes share. 😊
Hey Ole! Congratulations mate that's awesome!! I would love to go back to Norway! I was based in Kristiansund for some time on an explorer vessel. The guys speared lots of Pollock and Cod and I got some giant Scallops too! incredible country so beautiful will have to return. Any chance of Halibut up your ways? Might have to start planning a trip!
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit That's awesome! Yes, lot's of Halibut here in Lofoten. I think Daniel Mann made a video from one of his trips to Lofoten when he shot his first Halibut. I think you would love it here. I had some delicious Halibut at a restaurant here and it is by far one of the best fish I've ever tasted. As a beginner I'll not Spear a Halibut just yet but it's definitely a goal for the future.
Love it! Nice to see vids where the kill isn't the focus of the the video. You see the prepping, the nature and of course the DINNER! I'm always sad to see a pretty fish die but there's more to spearfishing than just that.
You are still a young fella and i'm 54 now and used to fish around Rangitoto when I was a kid with my Dad. It was over fished and depleted even back then in the 80s..
Hey ollie hope everything is allright over there? Noticed be awhile since your last vid just thought check in to see if your going allright love your vids and miss them
Great trip Ollie... I'm really surprised you found anything to be honest on Rangitoto being so close to Auckland and all that effluent run off from the harbour. I probably wouldn't eat the mussels that's just me.
Wow. Things have certainly changed since I lived there. Have you ever tried drying your fish, Ollie? I used to work with Indonesian fishers and they would always dry some of their catch. They would sometimes soak the dried fish before frying the fish. Really brings out the flavour . I love it.
Hey Ollie. Enjoying watching your videos! Just wondering how you have found the Seabuck wetsuits as far as durability, warmth and fit goes? Cheers Josh, Nelson
Cheers mate. Love my Seabuck suits mate. have been warmer and more durable than previous suits worn. Also, love the bonus of the built-in scupper system for taking a leak while out diving!
Hey mate check into your diet, that can have a big influence, especially just before a dive otherwise also look up on youtube, heaps of info about equalising. There is only a small amount of the population that actually have serious issues.
ill try this one ollie i saw you use a wooden roller gun .what i dont understand is when you loaded it you loaded 2 bands but you had 3 bands each side ,i dont get it how ? can any one tell me as i am thinking of converting 3 of my guns grumpy
i thought it was a bad idea to eat any filter feeder when there are alge blooms , in the UK its dont eat filter feeders unless there is an R in he month , opposite for you ofc ?
Epic stuff Ollie! I’ve just bought some gear so I can get out there, just curious what size gun you tend to use? I just purchased a 120cm from Wettie :) keep it up mate!
Great content mate, I'm moving to NZ soon - I'm a South African and was raised respecting all natural life coast and land. Would like to become a part of the NZ spearfishing and hunting community, would appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction. Cheers mate
Hi Albert awesome mate. You can check out the Facebook groups to start plenty of info and reading in there otherwise hit me up once you arrive I can help you get started

The cooking was a great way to finish👍🏼
It might be a Spenglers Trumpet Snail, not certain though. Some kind of big whelk for sure
Knobbed Triton Snail (Charonia lampas) they eat starfish which eat mussels

The cook up looked really interesting Olli, I’ve never tried it, i might have to giv it a go, I might leave the lemon seeds out though haha😂🤣
Haha my secret ingredient 🤣 it goes really good. A bit better in the the blender though!
Nice fish dip, definitely gonna try that :) Your vids are top notch.
Thanks guys. Enjoy!
I’ll give the steamed fish dip thing a go and let you know what I think. Looks pretty good.
That fish dip looked super easy, great little one to remember 👍
Sure is mate!

nice mate , love the vids
Outa interest, do you think the gulf is mainly overfished from recreational or commercial fishing?
Not sure mate no doubt bit of both. Surely some easy steps to make eg a no take period while they are spawning on spring… it’s rediculous
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit Yeah man, 100% agree.
Excellent video 👍well done, Ollie 🌊🐠

Ols!, you moved to a Rob Allen carbon roller. how are you finding it? Im considering it...
Have been using it for few years now. My favourite speargun. Pair with 14mm bands and 6.5mm shaft it’s super smooth and powerful

Me: pitch black

i thought it was a bad idea to eat any filter feeder when there are alge blooms , in the UK its dont eat filter feeders unless there is an R in he month , opposite for you ofc ?
Unsure mate never heard anything like that down here. Only common sense not to eat them right next to a city/storm water outlets etc

Hey Paul thanks mate! Yeah a 120cm is a great size gun for North Island (as long as not too dirty water) good luck out there !
Awesome thanks Ollie, you’re the man!!
