One thing I should have said in my summary is that if I didn't own powerheads and I was setting up a new tank today, I'm pretty sure I'd go for the Jecods. And the fact I already have 4x Vortechs is a big part of why they're a better fit for me 🙂
Interesting to see, I’m shocked that they’re as close and I hope it’s a bit of a wake up call for these costly devices out there for big name brands! Great video as usual, Alex!
I'm not, I've been saying for years they're over rated & over priced. I bought one donkeys ago & I was not impressed at all for what it cost (plus it broke after a few years), never bothered with them since.
@@northeastcorals that's fair enough, im not speaking from experience, but more notoriety, you can't deny that these are one of the 'top' power heads in the hobby, they are always compared against or seen in a good light, yeah it has its negative points, but overall id say its highly regarded! I will admit, i stayed away because of the price, and instead went for reefwave 25!
@@TomoBishBosh As are their lights, which again are a good product but in my humble opinion are massively over priced for what they are. Obviously they should be free to charge whatever they want for their products, I'm just saying as far as I'm concerned they are not good value for the money. Again I also tried out their lights to see what all the hype was about (at the same time I tried their pumps) & to say I was underwhelmed would be an understatement to say the very least.
I have 2 MP40s and some Jebao/Jecod wave makers (with internal wires). All have been working great for the past 2 years. I have also just bought a Jebao DMP40 and am very happy with it. I live in Vietnam, close to China so the price I paid shipped to my house was only £90, 1/4 the price of the MP40. The interesting thing is that the wet part of the MP40 works well with the dry part of the DMP40.
Fantastic wave maker. Love the flow acoustics with the sine mode. That looks incredible and the corals will thrive under that setting. Very impressive. When I get a larger tank, this wavemaker is a very relaxing option for me. Well impressed. Thanks for sharing and great video. 👍
I use a third party one - managed to find a lithium ion that's plug and play and much smaller/lighter than the Ecotech. It's by a company called Talentcell and I made a video about it here th-cam.com/video/4EAgZ6yLTqk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3IzYRu9LANss9hWS
Having the ability to set a time for when they go off is a good idea, if you also have a timed auto feeder these can then work together when you're not around.
dude is this too good to be true? my only concern would be longevity, but could buy these 3-4 times over for the price of the ecotech, id love to try these wish they were on amazon
I would never spend the Vortec prices so the Jacod is an alternative I be getting & the main reason is just to loose the cable out the tank & that's it for me really. Nice video review Alex as always thank you 👍
always had Jebao pumps (also return) and had zero problems, tbh I never took then in 1 year and half to maintenance. Im glad to see the market has now an alternative for those overpriced Ecotech stuff. In terms of software is something that I believe will be improved in the jecobs soon
I know the controller is ugly but I find it a lot easier to use. What are the drum pads doing on the ecotech? What about the light patterns? I had to look them up and then forgot the very next time I came to use it.
Whatthereef did a video on noticing the EcoTech MP40 had some sort of grease on the inside of the wet side that the Jecod did not have. Of couse we won't know until later after much use if it causes any issues.
I have MP60's but for a thing that moves water it's very exspensive and out of most reefers reach price wise, I dont think the pricing is right. They are also not that silent at all. They do move water though.
@@ReefDork I suspect you're thinking of the bigger models (EcoFlow Delta). Ecotech backup: 228mm x 178mm x 82mm Ecoflow River 2: 245mm x 214mm x 142mm

Hey, I just got one, open up the wet side, the magnet seal is terrible, I won’t trust it now
Great review and comparison. So happy these companies are doing what they do and bringing it at such an affordable price.

Another Great video Alex. Just ordered the DMP10 to try so fingers crossed 🤞
And it is reassuringly Jecod when you plug it in ⚡🤯⚡
Great review, thanks Alex
I've been using one for a week. I was very impressed by the performance. Definitely not at polished as MPs but it WELL is worth the money so far.
Great vid Alex - do you use the Vortech battery back up or a third party one? - looking for an alternative

Yeah, totally. I expect it to be good long-term but you never know with a new design. But you're right - if it breaks, buy a new one!
Cool . Nice review ! Like to see some quaranteen videos with the expertise you put into kalk vids . Where's the Dork 😊

Yep - that's correct. I never replace the grease on my Ecotechs when I clean them though for what it's worth.
Are these available in the uk yet ? If not can you let us know the best place to get them from please? Thank you
Ali express
Can do the standing wave with all jecod power heads
Yes can do it with other jecod powerheads
Thanks 🙏
For the under-voltage warning, i found that my power-board was the cause of that issue. After replacing the faulty power-board i haven’t seen again.
Thanks, I'll look into that
May I have the frequency u used for that sine mode?
Lowest it would go to
Sine mode has same effect with cp gyre powerheads
The only question to ask: are a few minor convenience features worth paying more than double the price?
I need the wetside of the jecod. It seems to be more reliable than the junk vortech is making
I will stick with my Maxspec jump gyre.
Pay for what you get in this hobbie but agree the jacod flow patterns look awesome something i can never replicate with ecotech

You can keep your ecotech by a generator and the battery backup is not necessary then your whole tank will run
Eco River 2 is about the same price as the Ecotech battery pack. Eco River is far more flexible as well.
Yep - they're absolutely massive though so I'm not a fan personally

Does the Ecoflow River work automatically the same as Ecotech/UPS oprions?
@@discol76 yes can be used as a UPS
Prefer the Jecod mlw… less than half of the price , same functions and you can angle them .
Hey there. New to reefing. What is that green liquid that you pour? is that coral food?
Yeah it's Red Sea Reef Energy ab+. I prefer not to use it though cos it feeds pests like aiptasia too.
Replacement head’s available?
Don't think so...
@ Alex does the DMP-40 head work on the MP40 dry body side?
@madshepsreef282 dunno...
@@madshepsreef282 I know the mp40 wetside works on the DMP40, no idea if its vice versa.

Imperial gallons, yeah but I'm talking US gallons (it's actually about 5,200)
Dry side dimension?
