Good album.... but man I wish they had more songs with the classic orchestral and guitar mix. The only song with that in the album is " I Want To Live" which is amazing.
I think, because of the loss of Chu, they may have decided to tone down on that one. Shame about him leaving- I think this song would have sounded even sicker if they'd use the orchestral stuff rather than the tech side of things. A lot of the tracks it feels as though it would work with strings. Can't blame Chu for wanting to be with his family though. Just wish they'd made more use of Tate on the album :/
I feel like Awake is their best work to date. Think about it, it's the first record to feature Jen Ledger on drums and vocals. The fact that her vocals aren't overused makes the album a lot better. She has co-lead and backup on just two tracks of the album. Apart from that, they have a lot of violin and cello on the album, and Korey does a great job on the keyboard. The guitar solos are unique, the riffs are heavy, and John does a lot of meaningful and melodious singing and screaming. The slow and soft songs on the record are amazing as well. I recommend you go for Awake, and then for Rise.
Mostly because it sounds powerful and because I'm into muscle cars, and they are fucking heavy and loud as hell, but when you build it right, and those front wheels come off the ground at the track, it's the best feeling ever

I'm very serious when I say this is one the best rock arrangements for a song about resisting and fighting against something. The verse with the shouting voices as if they're responding a leader, the changes in percussion as if to match the 'heartbeat' at the part where the female voice comes in, the bridge building up tension with multiple voices and slowly introducing instruments, to then double on the percussion again as if to signify the final battle arrived and you got to take it seriously. Musically, this actually makes you feel like a leader of an army, fighting for what they believe in, struggling, but determined, and with each chorus a new battle, one that as the guitar solo signifies, probably goes on forever, and you have to stay strong. Genuinely impressed with the artistry here.

I'm very serious when I say this is one the best rock arrangements for a song about resisting and fighting against something. The verse with the shouting voices as if they're responding a leader, the changes in percussion as if to match the 'heartbeat' at the part where the female voice comes in, the bridge building up tension with multiple voices and slowly introducing instruments, to then double on the percussion again as if to signify the final battle arrived and you got to take it seriously. Musically, this actually makes you feel like a leader of an army, fighting for what they believe in, struggling, but determined, and with each chorus a new battle, one that as the guitar solo signifies, probably goes on forever, and you have to stay strong. Genuinely impressed with the artistry here.
