That is a tomato hornworm. He will strip everything off your tomato plants. Not sure if they do that to other plants or not. I've been lucky and not had them yet! If you go out at night with a blacklight, they glow in the dark and are easier to spot. You may want to get rid of him. Some people feed them to the chickens, others say not to, so I'm not sure on that.
I’ve had half a dozen of those worms in the last 2 weeks. They are horrible this year! They have been on my tomato plants mostly but also on the peppers.
