Inside the most beautiful abandoned castle 'Non Plus Ultra'

- I went with my cousin to the most beautiful urbex castle in the world, 'they say.' After a long search we got inside and what we've seen there was too beautiful for words. Inside this castle there are 365 rooms, one for every day of the year, all in another style and decoration. The castle was a spa hotel for the rich, but is now abandoned for more than 20 years. Sorry for the bad filming but it was filmed with a GoPro on my head. You can see our photos on the following link: www.facebook.c...

Absolutely breathtaking. Thank you so much for sharing this and being so respectful while you were inside. I am so sick of the "abandoned" videos where all they do is yell and scream and curse the whole time. You guys truly did this palace justice.
It must have taken 100 years to build hat incredible place. Thank God it has stayed intact like that. The craftsmanship is simply astounding. Just the time it would have taken just to build 1 of those archways in the first room you entered is incredible. The mosaics and terrazzo work is unbelievable. There must have been at least 200 craftsman at a time working on that. Still, it would have taken so long to get such amazing patterns. I also noticed that the patterns change from room to room. The time taken to design it all could have been at least 10 years. I am sure it is the only one that exists. There are no words that can adequately describe how incredible it is, even from a video. Can you imagine waking up there every morning? Breathtaking!!!
A true hidden gem! It was built in 1605 but 245 years later an eccentric politician spent 40 years transforming every room in the place! The gentleman used influences of the finest Arab, Indian, Persian, Spanish and Byzantine features to be found anywhere in the world from his own creative imagination having never travel to those places. Unfortunately during WW2 the Nazi's stole most of the fountains and statues from the property grounds. The gardens are said to have over 130 rare and exotic plants too. One may ask, why has no one bought this palace? Some of the reasons are access to the mansion is a one mile uphill walk and it has no electricity or running water! (Imagine porters every day having to carry large amounts of water and supplies for the residents.) To purchase and repair with very little added conveniences would cost over 32 million dollars. This stunning place should be graced as a World Heritage site and hopefully not spoiled by modernization!
+Mary kai how do you know she making it up? you tell us what you know then🤔yeah thought so you dont know shit all😴😴😴😴
+Mary kai and ?? places do have plumbing 😂called goverment looks after it ,so not really abandonded as such
+Mary kai OF COURSE I SEEN THE VID ,I WOULDNT BE HERE MAKING COMNENT ABOUT IT IF UKUV
+Mary kai i know that!!!!! THATS WHY I SAID OBVIOUSLY THE GOVERMENT MUST BE LOOKING AFTER THE BUILDING OR ITS OPEN TO PUBLIC ,YOURE BORING ME NOW YOU SAID YOUR PEICE 😴😩
I think you should have done a search using a few key words as I did and you would have found that Sarah B was historically correct about this place. The fairly extensive photographs and text I found at www.messynessychic.com/2014/04/17/amazing-technicolor-castle-abandoned-20-years/ confirm what she says. It doesn't mention the uphill water carrying problem, but then when it was first built and then modified humans were not as keen on bathing and servants and donkeys were as cheap as chips in any case. Plus it was not, at that point, intended to be used as a spar anyway. I imagine the plumbing was added at a much more recent date.
wow no graffity on the wall , no busted glass and its abandoned for 20 yrs more ,, its amazing ,,
The world is full of hidden treasures, yet there is so much more to explore :)
I said the same thing! I hope people dont trash it with graffity as the years progress.
jil takia true that
Florian Biesemans dear where is this place?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sammezzano
this is amazing. the architecture, the tiles, the stained glass windows, all the detailed doorways. it's a shame that no one has bought it and made it livable or even put it on display.
Believe me, 10 million dollars is about 90 million dollars less than it would cost to build today. If you stood and examined just 1 wall, you would see exactly what I mean. It is so intricate, and skilled, it would blow your mind.
This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful abandoned places I have ever seen, as well as one of the best exploration videos. Yes you started out very Shakey and all over the place, but you soon got that under control. I think you were just overwhelmed by the beauty and pristine condition of the place. When you think abandoned you think deteriorating, vandalized, garbage mounded, rancid, filthy and scary places. Then you step into a place as beautiful, colorful, serene, clean, calming and breathtaking as this. The colors, architecture, workmanship, dedication and love that went in to creating a beautiful place liked this that has endured the time and the elements is just truly amazing. To think it has been there for hundreds of years and still looks like this. .Thank goodness the non-profit is doing what it can between ownership to see the place is maintained. I hope whoever buys the place turns it in to something amazing and open to the public. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us. This is an amazing place!!!
Indeed I couldn't believe what I saw that day, thank you Kathy!
Maybe you can post this link in description, just to let everyone know what and where it is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sammezzano
This is in India it cannot be anywhere else it is just a dream
@@patriciacalunniato9173 It's in Italy outside of Florence

It amazes me how places like this can be abandoned.

This is beautiful.
It should be protected and open for tourists and even a hotel.
Where is this place?
Already was a hotel about 25 years ago too far off the main road and too expensive for upkeep costs nobody can afford it there's mud road going to it I will ride a horse in someday to check it out

I wish I could buy this, its too beautiful to go to waste
if you live there you will experience a ghost lurking at night
that would add character
I would be disappointed if it didn't have several ghosts lurking 24/7. It's bound to have a caretaker somewhere. It looks like a lot of hard work was put into it...sad that it sits there empty with so much more to offer.
one23itsjustme yeah you want to live there do you want to be possesed
Joseph Turtoga
oh gosh, it's beautiful but I would not want to live there with that atrocious interior style of decor. It's beautiful in some rooms more than others, but having been a co-worker of Muslim women who lived that decor for several years...um,...yeah I'll pass. LET ME BE CLEAR, it's not ugly, it's just not my style. I admire it's beauty and I definitely feel like it's spacious grandeur is the most admirable. ...which is likely what caused it's demise. ~ As a spirit, I think it would be a great place to inhabit. There's bound to be many entities residing there. Call Steve Huff :D He'd get some great evps there.
This place is incredible. It does not look abandoned. There must be someone taking care of it. Don't tell people where it is. Some smart ass will go in and destroy it. Thanks for sharing it.
I won't! It would be a shame that something happens to this castle
It's already a well known castle in Italy.
I suppose and I'm happy to hear that because here in Belgium, all locations get trashed when they are known. It should always be this way, but not all people respect those beautiful buildings and places that are not theirs...
Non plus ultra, was inscribed on the Pillars of Hercules at the Strait of Gibraltar, which marked the western end of the classical world. The phrase served as a warning: "(Let there) not (be) more (sailing) beyond. In this context, the phrase seems to mean this is the destination, the end-all, be-all and the best there is to be had, to rest at having found it.
edit: Beautiful, yes. Thank you for the tour. I'll have to visit, someday with my son, (he's a bit young, yet for urban exploration - being only seven) - hopefully will before it is gone, or changed. It is extraordinary.
It doesn't look that dirty or decayed to be abandoned for more than 20 years. Beautiful!
absolutely stunning! I could not imagine living in some that huge! you could move your entire family in there and never run into one another..wow! breathtaking
I think there's room for a few more families ;)
That might be a good thing in some cases. lol
The colors are still so vibrant it hard to believe it's been 20 years.
That was indeed exceptional. I have never seen any building so ornately decorated and the details are absolutely flawless. People should be living there and enjoying all of that. What a horrible waste. It makes me so sad. Thank you so much for sharing.
Astronomical costs for upkeep that's why and too far back from the main road
Beautiful. One of the very few that hasn't been vandalized or graffiti. Thank god as they say.
I'm speechless after your vid. What a feast for the eyes. Thank you for sharing this "11th Wonder of the World". A spa for the wealthy indeed!
For an abandoned castle this looks pretty well preserved and clean. Most abandoned places we see now days are all ruined and destroyed. It sure is a beautiful looking place !
I find it hard to believe this beautiful castle sits abandoned. The designs are awesome. Why on GOD's green earth would a treasure like this sit abandoned, is beyond me. Nice work guys, keep em coming ☺
This palace is totally unbelievable!!!
The most beautiful estate I have ever seen!!! This must be saved!!!! I pray it does not go to ruins!
how many years of handwork....beautiful richness of eatern art. amazing!
European castles give me such a chill. I've personally only seen a couple in Scotland/England but even the ones I've seen are completely different to this. Gives me some real chills when I see it.
It is a shame that no one is living in this beautiful castle!! I would love to go and see this for my self, but.....thankfully there is you guys to do it for me!! Great video!
Most Beautiful,Detailed n Intricate Abandoned Castle iv seen. Simply AMAZING!
BEAUTIFUL Castle! Thanks for the look inside!!
I can see Indian architecture and design on wall, pillars and floors... magnificent touch of Indian architecture makes it more beautiful....
Amazingly beautiful, what a treat for the eyes.
I hope this magnificent place can be restored and opened to the public. It is just so beautiful
how could a goverment allow such a treasure to go to wrack and ruin. It would be an amazing tourist destination and create jobs for people
+dee walker ,dee can you imagine how much this as cost to build and seemingly abandoned ,when the poor and old the disabled and destitute could of used the money better ,its a sin and a crime, from those above, squandering money, yes its beautiful ,marvelously built, but I feel its wrong and not beautiful, its a mark from the ruling classes of waste of economics,
it could create jobs and pay taxes to help with social needs
As are all cathedrals, many government buildings and places the rich play or live in. Still could be used to help the poor and disabled for housing and jobs. I try to put aside my hatred for the filthy rich and think of ways to use what they leave behind.
there is no way such a national treasure should be used for housing. It would destroy the building. Jobs yes and tours
The government can't afford to take care of it, nor do they want to and they ran off the people who could with high taxes and anti business laws. So now it must decay and go to waste....thanks to the greedy socialist government, people and politicians.
Breathtaking! Never saw anything like this! Thank You so very much! Hard to believe it has been unoccupied for 20 years and is in Italy!
omg how beautiful.. please don't let it get ruined with graffiti
Looks like a magic labyrint... Never, ever have seen such a lot of beautiness with all that magic colours!
Breathtakingly beautiful, thanx for sharing
Aww thank you hunni :)
I get the impression that even though the castle hasn't been in use for 20 years, it's still being maintained. It's remarkably well preserved.
What an astoundingly beautiful late 13 century Moorish styled eyesore.
that doesn't make sense
+monakw it's pure carp
😳 this may be the most intricate and gorgeous abandoned place I've EVER seen! So happy vandals haven't tried destroying it!
Even in the state that it is (and it's in excellent condition), it can be used for weddings, for example. Just bring in porta potties and power plants. It can even be used as a movie set.
Best ideas so far! 👏👏👏
MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE.
VERY PEACEFUL AND ROMANTIC PLACE, NIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE.
Awesome video! Non plus ultra is definitely one of the most amazing Locations out there.
This is by far the most beautiful, well kept abandoned castle ever. I truly hope no vandals find it and destroy all that handiwork.
Are freeken kidding me right now, Unbelievable! It's like the crazyest dream you could have!
*craziest
@@icantthinkofaname15 Yep. Indeed thou art. How ironic, don't ya think? Oops, I forgot, Americans don't "get" ironY...
There is no way I believe it's been abandoned for 20 yrs. It's too clean, no cobwebs, and no decay. With that being said, it is a beautiful amazing place. Absolutely stunning!
wow yeah it is beautiful inside
i cant bv believe that its abanded for 20 years! its still looks beautifull
Just amazingly beautiful ! 😮
This is just so beautiful & yes it should be turned into a museum for the public to be able to see, I hope it isn't just left to decay or vandals to destroy. Thanks , from those who can't experience this, but through you , can
wow so beautiful
Such a treasure thanks for sharing. Wish someone would reopen this as a B&B, it would be fabulous and calming.

There are Moroccan designs and style , it's stunning , its a dream place
Great place!
You should have spent more time in filming this. There was so much to look at and I felt like you were running through and I couldn't get a good look at much. You should re-shoot this if you can. It was worth the trip. Simply amazing. Thanks.
It's vacant but not abandoned.
it's being kept up and cleaned and the grounds are well kept.
This should or could have been a museum!! It's beautiful.....
GORGEOUS!!!

would have loved to have seen the kitchen, awesome video

Breathtakingly beautiful. Thanks for the upload.
Wish you had a stabilized lens or mount. Too much shaking around for me to enjoy the video. Does look like an amazing place to visit.
Oh you enjoyed the video, alright. You're just a complainer is all.
@@susiearviso3032 Why did you say "quit meddling" earlier?
It was too shaky and missed a lot of special work, but it will do for now 😊
Great point. All that footage and the inexperience of the camera person ruins it. Get it.....ruins it.... anyways I would rather watch a rolling clip of still shots with better lighting than watch this medication fueled craziness. I know this was 2016 video but that camera person cannot watch this video and say he did a great job. I wish now in 2019 these people would strap on a 360 and walk slow so we can stop and see what is being filmed.
I couldn’t watch it all. I got a headache. That crazy filter they used distorted everything. Horrible video. I hope there’s another video online by someone with experience. This place looked amazing distorted. I bet it’s so much more not distorted.
I can't imagine such a magnificent home just abandoned. The craftsmanship is beyond amazing! I'm speechless. This place has endless possibilities. Really enjoyed the still photography, the shots were fantastic.
Thank you Super Annie! :D
Florian Biesemans May I ask what type of camera you shoot with & do you use a tripod or just hand-held? thxs!
I shot this with a gopro on my head, that's the reason the camerawork is terrible. But next time I won't make the same mistake
Florian Biesemans Wow, I'm surprised! The stills are beautiful
amazing !
WOW!! What a place! It can't have been abandoned for very long; It's still in really good shape. I did see some evidence of decay toward the end, but throughout most of the video, the place was immaculate!
It looks very middle eastern. Built by the moors perhaps? (Or at least in that style) Too bad the camera man is moving so quickly, as it’s very difficult to take it all in. Something that ornate takes time to really see all the detail.
that is absolutely GORGEOUS!!
wow-stunning place- too bad you couldnt wander around for hours filming and taking pictures
That's insane. The place still looks in really good shape. It's amazing that it could just be abandoned. And, I'd call that a palace, not a castle.
Where is that? It looks very morrocan Islamic design type of palace! It's beautiful!
Italy
Sarah Alotaibi yesssss
sammezzano castle, Lucca, Toscana
Wow! What a find! Thank you so much for sharing that with us!!
Who owns this? It seems to be in very good repair, not a lot of broken glass or anything of that kind.
+HiVisionary1125 The castle is in ownership of a company and I think it's for sale for 20 million euros
Ah ha ha ha! Like you're going to get an answer? lol
What a trippy house, an Arabian palace, amazing.
Its not abonded, the fact that there are flying drones, says why its not demolished by vandals and also it is very very clean for an "abonded" place, dont vacuum clean for 2 weeks, nor remove dust for 3 weeks in your home.... You'll understand that it can not be THAT clean after 20 years. Nope
Plus, a modern bathroom w/toilet somewhere near the top..........NOT abandoned, just unused for some strange reason............wish these "explorers" woud do some research..............absolutely amazing. I would have guessed in Spain.
Quit meddling.
Urban explorers need to quit breaking and entering places that aren't abandoned.
Jennifer Taylor yes! Just get permission from the owners! I am sure most people are proud of their home and would show you it themselves!
It's probably a vacation home a place the family goes once a year or will go like every 5 years for a few years or has as a secondary home the grounds are well kept to not overgrown as you would see in a place being abandoned for 20 years
I hope no one destroys it. Beautiful.
That is gorgeous! Where is this at? Looks like someone has been keeping up with the up keep of the yard and it was clean inside. Just beautiful... thanks for sharing!!
Italy and there is a owner not occupied it
How can this place be abandoned. Such lovely detail and character, all in immaculate condition. This has to be locked and guarded with keep out signs.
Abandoned or just empty? I love these videos but I'd have a security guard posted 24/7 to keep out vandals/trespassers.
Thank you for seeing and not destroying. I would have loved to see if there was a stable where these rich people kept their horses. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy your work.
i never see abandoned place like this o.O
Wow.... it’s like something out of a fairytale book.... 🌺
beautiful !
What a beautiful place! it must of taken years to build with all the intricate woodwork. Wow! And what a joy to not see it full of graffiti and vandalism!! Hopefully someone will buy it soon. Thank you for sharing!!
Class!👍
Gorgeous windows and tilings!
wow this amazing piece of history italy has had middle eastern influence from turks look up history .
What amazes me is the "trickster" approach of this castle : as you look at it and approach it you just expect your regular western European style castle but then you are caught completely off guard as you enter the interior of an arabic style Riad instead. It almost feel like you just went through a portal to another dimension or as if it was a riad contained in a castle... I guess that's what they wanted since it was a Spa for the rich : extravagant and exotic.
Although in some rooms they went heavy on the colors and they mixed between Indian and Arabic designs and color palettes in other rooms.
Amazing house, I see you said this was in Italy but it does look very middle eastern
+SueAnn rich muslims
no it wasnt. It was an Italian who appreciated that type of architecture.

Why would a Jewish temple have bathrooms with bathtubs. I don't think so.
@@susiearviso3032 lol
The carved decor is gorgeous!
I want it!! Only Dreams!! Lol
Wow... Thanks for this video. Your bravery and generosity of spirit are commendable. Now, I can't say I find the eastern style of building appealing, but it just goes to show that if a person has plenty of money, any folly can be constructed! One day I will build MY dream house, and you and your friends will be invited - you don't have to sneak in! Good work! Well done!
This is very odd to see an abandoned castle that isn't all painted up by a bunch of punks and tagged making the value go down the toilet. Nothing was broken or destroyed like others I have seen. They must have stronger laws or people who raise their kids the right way to where they do not destroy other people's property. Very rare find.
The world is full of hidden treasures ॐ
@@florianbiesemans3124 very true
I am delightedly shocked to be honest! Some other places in Italy have literally been desecrated by vile human animals. Am indeed curious to know how exactly this wondrous place is so well protected. Lifts the soul indeed...
This place is still maintained, it's not technically "abandoned"
Oh wow! It is breathtaking! The detail and colours are beautiful. There are no words. Thank you so much for making and sharing this video. Such a beautiful building should be maintained and used.
THE HISTORY:
The castle of Sammezzano got its current appearance thanks to the work of one man: Ferdinando Panciatichi Ximenes d'Aragona (Florence, 1813- Sammezzano, 1897) who renovated and expanded the pre-existing building during the period between 1843 and 1889.
This place is absolutely magnificent!
