In the writings of Critical Theory between the "priestly class" of it, the originators (nothing wrong with that), one of the main concerns is trying to shut down & suppress questioning, reason or analysis or discussion or debate and gain acceptance using Emotionally Manipulative Methods. Standard cult (i.e. controlling) behavior.
I don't think it is the blantantness of their racist ideology that is so bad (similar attitudes as Hitler towards the Jews); or the belief that if you have less power or numbers your entitled to low ethics - that is protected as free speech - it is the manipulative way it is taught, and the intention to create resentment & conflict or guilt (both which gains power).

There was no lynching here, he and his fellow sailors started a fight, stabbed several Swedish sailors, slashed a policeman who tried to intervene and shot two policemen when they came to arrest them for attempted murder. He was chased by the police and local population while trying to evade the arrest and get to his ship. He fell in the water and drowned because he couldn't swim.

Isn't it sad, that the BBC has put this forward without putting in ALL of the facts around this incident, and what Charles Wootton really was and how much of a major part he played in insighting the trouble that night, should there be any sort of plaque put up, if anyone goes around stabbing people, shooting at people, but even worse is this is not a true reflection on what happened that night, and a totally different story is being put forward to create tension between people, and I would like to think that if the true facts were presented, that the black community wouldn't like to represented in this portrayal.

We have had a community of Black and white people living together in Southern Liverpool, they have been least 200 years if not more. In 1919 there was a police strike where the army was brought in, I know of this because my mother was involved , she was nine years old I had heard about Charles Wooton because a centre had been named after him.
This is a great fat lie and should be investigated properly with the fact exposed I know for a fact that this would have have been spread around Livrrpool like wildfire Tjhe circumstances must have been recorded in the newspapers if someone had been lynched then fair enough cause a stink but don't forget inconvenient facts.

They aren't really talking about the full picture, these riots were for the most part fueled by the unemployment, as many servicemen and sailors were returning back to Britain in 1919, there wasn't a lot of work, and in some of the docks areas there was anger at wages being undercut for cheaper foreign workers. There is more to the incident with Charles Wootton also. The fight broke out between black sailors and swedes, to which the black sailors had pulled out razors and knives(sailors often did carry knives or firearms) a policeman intervened but was slashed across the face, until he was fell to the ground with exhaustion. More police and a mob had arrived chasing the black sailors to their quarters where they were living. From the house shots from a revolver were fired out wounding several policemen, one shot through the neck and was in a serious condition in hospital. Charles Wootton had ran from the house were the sailors were in which the shots from one revolver had come from, at which point the mob had grabbed him and he ended up in the water, whether thrown in or fell in, its not entirely clear. This is what is reported in the newspapers at the time.

I would like to know why it’s always about black and white? What about the discrimination of the Irish in Britain that came before, what about Italian discrimination that came before as well? What about how discrimstiin about catholics? Yeah you can’t change the colour of your skin, but you can’t also change being Irish or Italian and given the times it happened you also couldn’t just change your religion after being brought up with it amongst your family, kind of getting bored now of all this. It’s a way of learning but I don’t see how this would solve anything by bringing it all up, it’s going to cause more tension than there already is. And I don’t see why you can be frustrated and angry at something that happened over 100 years ago. I’m part Irish and I don’t feel frustration to how my ancestor were treated or the catholic ones. My Scottish great great grandfather was killed in the first war by a German over 100 years ago leaving 6 children orphaned, don’t see why I should be frustrated with Germans just cause he was basically murdered by one. A two great great uncles were also killed in the first and second war by Germans leaving families heartbroken and causing one of the mothers to die a week later cause she couldn’t take it and the other to live her days wondering what ever happened to the body of her son. It’s all in the past. People move on. What happened to Charles was a tragedy, but to hold on to it after all this time, and constantly want to talk about it and pin point how bad whites were back then can only do more damage, as if we are still being hated in for the actions people took all those years ago. And although Britain is still a racist country, it’s not as racist as it was back then

@@mcr2356 There were very few on either side of the Atlantic, only dozens in the entire 19th and 20th century. "Massively" different, seeing as how few there were in the United States must mean the UK had MORE.
There were only 2,107 lynchings in the United States going back two hundred years before the United States existed and only sixteen from now back to the end of the 19th century (122 years ago) and only TWO in the 20th century. Over 80% of those were when the United States was a colony of a certain world power.
But you say it was massively different in Britain. If it was "massively different", seeing as I know the numbers in the United States were so incredibly low that must mean you Brits lynched a whole lot of people, huh? The fight with the Swedes that started it all escalated when the Black sailors drew razors in the altercation, to which a police officer intervening had his face slashed up. Again another race baiting dishonesty. The reason why police officer wanted rest black sailor is that black sailor had knocked one police officer down and police went to arrest him. The black sailors went to their quarters and locked themselves inside. People gathers around and one black sailor started to shoot at the police and 2 were hit. This of course caused more excitement among crowd and when one black sailor tried to flee. They though he was shooter. They chased him and he fell into the docks and drowned cause he couldn't swim. Calling this a race riot is a lie. It was drunken brawl between Scandinavian and black sailors that went out of control.

I think he was using the word lynched to try and draw a comparison between the USA and the UK. The man who died drowned after the mob pushed him in the water and threw stones at him. He was murdered and they did not find or prosecute the perpetrators. It is not what happened in the USA in action, scale or timeframe. In the USA 3,500 African Americans and 1,300 white Anericans were lynched between 1882 and 1968. In the 1919 UK riots there were two murders of BAME and three murders of white people, and it wasnt on the scale of the USA 1919 riots (Red Summer ) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Summer
There is quite a lot of information online about the UK riots. Wives and girlfriends were treated badly, children grew up without their fathers who were repatriated to their home countries, men separated from their families. Whole communities felt considerable fear for some time due to the rioters. It was really terrible. I havent read all of this, but I think it's a comprehensive look at what was happening www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=era.ed.ac.uk/bitstream/handle/1842/6874/D086172.pdf%3Fsequence%3D1%26isAllowed%3Dy&ved=2ahUKEwiqsaf4uufqAhUYSBUIHahxBb0QFjAJegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw1UExr2ux3PN5g7mcjjI-cm

They didn’t, although we still were legally using hanging as a method of execution, up until 1964 if memory serves. Don’t get me wrong, racial tension in London in 1919 was documented as being a serious problem, but i think some people are getting confused between American and British history by the use of this term. Lynching was certainly not a common practice in the UK as it was in the states.

Charles Wooten was part of a black group/ gang of men that had an argument with Scandinavian sailors. Woo trim himself a sailor. Unfortunately the woke “ black people are innocent of everything “ approach here is lies. Woo trim and others attacked Scandinavians and when the politeness up they shot 2 police officers… Because of this a gang with police surrounding a house , Wootton tried to make his escape and ran towards the river where he fell in or was pushed in, there is no evidence to support what happened. It is reported he was hit with a stone and drowned. He along with the black gangs had knives and guns which were used violently towards whites and police. Charles Wootton had a college/ training building in upper Parliament street named after him. For an explanation see History debunked on TH-cam. David Olusoga’s book also twists this story to appeal to a black racist agenda. Like the fraudulent Black Lives Matter in the US people are sick to death with the notion that everything is racist. Whilst the 18 th Century Slavs trade was abhorrent it wasn’t the worst event in history, it wasn’t even the worst slavery event, the Muslin people enslaved people and treated them more severely but we don’t hear much about that. Neither do we hear of the black African leaders who sold their own people. Today Haiti is controlled by slavery but we don’t hear black people condemning that. Nor do we hear them condemning the Romans for enslaving the white British. It’s time black people got over slavery that hasn’t affected them for hundreds of years and tried to get on with life without playing the race card .

This is a lie. First, the fight they mentioned broke out the previous night with a gang of Scandinavian sailors. Wootton was in a mob of black sailors who returned to the pub the following night for revenge with knives and straight razors and stabbed up the Scandinavians, as well as attempting to slash the throat of a passing police officer who tried to stop them. The cops showed up in numbers and arrested them for a series of stabbings, not just for being black in a street fight. Second, after they returned to their boarding house, Wootton fired a pistol at the cops, wounded two officers (one of them in the throat) and fled with a hue-and-cry behind him. After this, he either fell, jumped or was pushed into the dock. Myself, I doubt anyone in the crowd would've been in a hurry to approach an armed man.
TL, DR; Wootton wasn't whistling down the street minding his own business when he was set upon by an angry mob, he was fleeing the cops as one of a number of men wanted for several attempted murders.
