Heard about the movie but never seen it. But the music is intricate and well made. Now you extended it to 21 minutes and the result is even better. a smooth and reflected piece of composition and extended version. 😀👍
It's a very nice movie, especially for those nostalgic of the good old 80's times (although the story takes place around 1979 if I remember well). Watch it if you can, you won't be disappointed.
This is one of those very rare scores of Giacchino that really get a strong emotional reaction out of me. Don't get me wrong, I like his stuff, I just find its sound to be way too "dry" most of the time. I think a great score needs a big space to be played in to breath, and Giacchino rarely allows that (that's why I like the four part suite at the beginning of Jupiter's way better than the rest of the score, because it was obviously mixed very differently, if not even played somewhere else). His Trek scores, specifically, suffer from that dry sound. Space is vast, and a score for a space movie shouldn't sound as if it was recorded in someone's living room. But with Super 8, he accomplished something truly extraordinary. Though it's still dry, the way it's orchestrated it manages to cover that very well, and I think it has two of his strongest themes ever, in the same score. I also connect this score with some very personal experiences, so it always gets. Hard. I really dig this suite. Thank you for making it.
