Target Debit Red Card - My Thoughts and Tips

- A few months ago I applied for a Red Card from Target, specifically the debit card. I made this video to share some 'tips' with you about using the card in case anyone's curious. I was hesitant to get the card but now I'm glad I did. Thanks for watching!

I work at target and didn’t know about the red card until I worked there now knowing how amazing it is I really do recommend the debit card! If your already spending money on that debit card you can basically do the same thing but save 5%!

You said that you opened up a separate checking account but you said you use your debit for all other things. The target security breach can happen at any other place you use the card. Just a thought.
Someone can walk by you anywhere and if they have a device they can scan your cards while they are tucked away in your wallet inside your purse. There's a special type of credit card holder that is sold at different places that is made of a special metal that prevents the device from being able to scan your cards. I have been looking for one for awhile now and when I do find it. Always sold out. I'm thinking I should probably put my Amazon Prime to good use and see if they sell the card holders. And yeah what the exact name of the card holder is, I have no clue to be honest.
But keep that in mind when you are out and about . If someone is kind of hovering around the side of you for a bit to long and keeps moving the general direction that you are, just be mindful of what's going on around you. Good grief all the things that we have to be extra vigilant about nowadays is enough to make you just want to stay home. But that's not living life like a person should be able to. Smh
Very good tips! Got me concern though about getting a debit card. I don't want to go through the hassle of getting a second checking account. I don't want a credit card because I just recently got one and don't want another hard inquiry. And for everyone in 2020, the gift card deal still applies. It's actually listed as a pro on the application page.

I know, getting a separate account is a pain for sure. There is no doubt it was time consuming and more work. I just couldn't risk another data breach being linked to my main checking account.

I've been really curious about the debit card, my biggest concern was when it asked me for my social and whether it would do a hard pull on my credit profile despite being a debit card.
I don't recall the application specifically since this was a few years ago but I am quite sure they asked for my social. And I no longer have 2016 credit history info showing up on my yearly credit report or I would tell you if a hard inquiry had showed up or not. Sorry! (I don't believe it's supposed to be a hard pull though.)

There shouldn’t be a pull on credit . Just like Chime, CashApp, Varo, etc This wouldn’t be any different they ask for social just like Wells Fargo Debit Chase Debit etc would.

@@quelquun2018 Not anymore but it used to be two separate apps. Now Cartwheel has been added into the Target app so it's all together.
Does the debit card immediately debit your checking account? ie how soon after making a charge would it show up on my USBank checking account?
I can only speak for my bank, but it usually isn't official on my bank statement until a couple of days after I make a purchase.

I'd do it if I didn't have to give them my social and ID. It clearly says in their privacy policy that they can share that. It doesn't matter if you open up a second account if that information is out there. Your money can be replaced, but your identity can be forever tarnished if it gets into the wrong hands.
People need to read the entire guidelines and rules, and not just sign things for the savings. You are giving your most personal and private information away in this surveillance state.
In a nutshell, it's a loyalty program that collects and mines data. At what cost though? You don't get something for nothing. I doubt that in this capitalistic society that Target only has the costumer's interest at heart. Target must have some hidden benefit in this somehow. It's true nature is data collection. We don't know how our information is truly used and have no way to police it.
You're right, they can and surely do collect our information and share it with affiliate businesses. Do I think they're collecting it for some secret nefarious purpose beyond marketing? No. Everyone considering a card like this from any company needs to read the fine print and determine if it's worth the risk to them. Here's a link to Target's debit card privacy policy:

Their benefit is because you’re not using credit, they are saving on merchant fees. This card is them passing on the savings. Royal Farms gas station does the same thing and it’s like 5 or 10¢ savings on gas per gallon.
How long did it take to get approved for the debit card?
I think it took a few weeks.

There's no annual fee for using the debit Red card, if that's what you mean. I'm still using it and have had no issues or hidden fees!
The one and only question I have and can't find the answer to.. Does Target charge a monthly fee or any fees at all for the Debit card? You would think that they would make that clear on their website...but they don't. Lol

What is their approval process? Is it normal to wait the 7/10 day? Does that mean you are not approved even though you meet the credit score requirements??
7-10 days sounds about normal. Since my situation was different it took a little longer. I believe you're not officially approved until you receive a letter of approval and card in the mail. However if you can show proof of application to a Target cashier, they *may* be willing to give you 5% off your purchases made in the meantime and let you pay with a non-Target card.
